Oh yeah….eBay. I’ll admit–I’m hooked *waving hand in the air* Although I got started on eBay over Native Halters for my Arab horses back I’d say, over 4 years ago. I guess I should be glad that the hubby is a little intimidated about buying/selling there. πŸ˜‰

Well, here goes nothing….if this works, then once the new arrivals make it, I’ll update the photo.

I found an Old Brown family on eBay, bid like a frenzied mongoose, and have been building the collection ever since. Although I have learned to not do the mongoose bidding thing most of the time. πŸ™„

πŸ˜† Oh, can I *EVER*relate to the frenzied mongoose thing! πŸ˜† I’ve found that lately I go into “Over My Dead Body (and empty bank account) bidding mode. Not good for the bloodpressure, OR the bank account! πŸ™„

My newest piece that is actually in my hands is a Peacock Emperor. And I’m awaiting the arrival of a Peacock Spectral, a Peacock Mother, and a Peacock Hatchling. They were won on eBay in seperate auctions. I got word that the Spectral was shipped out yesterday.
I’ve gotta say, though: after reading some of the horror stories on the forum, I’m feeling pretty anxious about these coming pieces. 😐
And how does one go about posting a photo here?

I just joined the group this morning, (and I’m getting into trouble already… πŸ˜† )
but is there any idea of when these might be landing? I’m not holding out much hope that I’d be able to afford one on the eBay auctions. Maybe its a good thing that I don’t mind the red eyes! πŸ˜‰

Welcome tasgrs! I can tell Peacock is your favorite color? And you like the Sunset Griffins? If you check the Ask Melody section, you’ll see that Melody is going to do a limited run of those griffins with blue eyes on e-bay, if you can wait that long and don’t mind getting into a bidding war!

Oh boy….thanks for telling me that…I *think* πŸ˜† That is bound to get me into serious trouble, especially since I have a thing for the blue eyes. My oldest horse (real critter) has blue eyes, along with 2 of my cats. And, of course, all the peacock Dragons! Their eyes were one of the things that got me started. I’ll have to check the Ask Melody section, I guess. πŸ˜‰

I hate paint tubes. The cap always gets gummed up, and you can never get all the paint out easily unless you have a tube key. Plus you gotta get a small glorb each time you get some paint.. with the bottles it’s easy to get a single drop if you don’t need much. πŸ™‚

There are couple of things that can be done. Wiping the threads with a damp paper towel before replacing the cap is 1 option; *LIGHTLY* coating the threads with vaseline is another–stressing the lightly! I prefer to use pallette paper when painting, so the glob of paint is a given, I guess. πŸ™‚ But with the pallette, there is room to keep the original colors seperated. I’ve also used the handle of a butter knife to squeeze as much paint from a tube as possible. I keep the cap on, squeeze with the knife, and then carefully fold and roll the tube.

I’m curious how folks began their collections and why.

For my part, I was introduced to a series of books back in the 80’s that had dragons and their riders as the main characters: The Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffery. I was given a couple of books to begin with, and I found myself totally immersed in that world. And I wholeheartedly wished that the dragons could be real. I read–A LOT! and to get lost in a book on a rainy weekend is like being in heaven for me. πŸ˜€
But shortly after finding those books, I came across the original brown and green dragons. When the peacocks came out, my husband, knowing my fondness for anything blue, bought my first 2 dragons for me. And that was it; I was hooked. And now here I am. πŸ™‚

Thanks for the welcome; after skimming through the posts on this thread I realize I am in the presence of greatness! LOL

I’ve been on a roll adding to the collection–after buying nothing for a few years, I’ve started up again. My hubby got a tad alarmed over the flurry of purchases, but since *he* collects coins (among other things!) he doesn’t have the room to squeak too much. Especially since he understands the concept of a retired piece. πŸ˜‰

I’ve already warned him that the Sunset Griffins are on my list, so if they start showing up to roost on the other side of our entertainment unit, he shouldn’t be too surprised. πŸ˜€

    Hi All:

I’m new to the forum pages–just joined this morning–but I can tell how many Dragons I’ve got.
I started way back in the mid 80’s with a Peacock Male and juvenile. Then just before the Peacock color was retired, I got a Peacock Lap Dragon, and a Peacock Scratching Dragon. Then I ordered an Emerald Peacock Fledgling, since I figured I was never going to find that one in Peacock. (plus I was curious to see what that color looked like in real life)…;) My latest acquisition was a Peacock Emperor that I found in a shop in New Hope, PA just last weekend. I couldn’t believe my eyes…I’m sure the shop owner probably thought I was *REALLY* strange, since I kept making comments to my husband about not believing my luck…:D
I’m currently awaiting the arrival of a Peacock Mother and Hatchling and a Peacock Spectral.
    T
