I was lying in bed, half-awake, and I thought at first that someone was driving by with their car stereo’s bass all pumped up… But it kept going, and my WHOLE BED was shaking, and all the votives on my dresser were rattling like a musical instrument! The walls sounded like they were going to fall over — like there was a big storm wind outside. But I could tell that it wasn’t raining, so I knew that wasn’t it!
I felt the aftershock at 10 AM, too– I was sitting in class, and the projector screen started vibrating (and so was the desk, when I pressed my hand to it)!

Yes, this is true of the conventions I’ve gone to as well. For the art show, the items being shown need to be 100% your own creation, or a collaboration (if you have the other artist’s direct permission). This is fairly standard.
That’s odd — the con I went to just last month had two customized Breyers in the art auction! One of which was very beautifully done (and tempting!), though I don’t remember who the artist was. 🙂

Well, can’t speak for anyone else, but I am DESPERATE to go to WorldCon (in Denver) this year — it’s in August. And I go to other scifi cons when I can, too — in fact, just went to MidSouth Con last month!
I kept an eye out in the dealers’ room and was disappointed to see no one selling Windstones there at all! So at least one person was ready to buy at a con. 🙂
They are heavy, though, and that might be a problem for some potential buyers — if they’re not staying in the hotel/con center, they probably wouldn’t want to be stuck carrying around their Emperor all day! 🙂 So if you worked out ahead of time some ways to deal with this and made sure all your customers knew it, I’d bet you’d be very successful!
And hey, if you do go to WorldCon (August 6-10! Go! Lois Bujold is their Guest Author!), PM me and I’ll look for your table! 🙂 I’ve been meaning to buy some Black Sunset Griffins for a while now… 🙂

This is a great idea — I too know it would be very hard to get it done “right” on the smaller pieces, but at the same time there’s very few crimes I wouldn’t commit to get my hands on an Autumn Leaf Lap! 🙂
Just the ones it would look best on — we wouldn’t want them if they weren’t beautiful, anyway. (It’s just that we have a lot of faith in your ability, Melody, to make ANYTHING look beautiful! So we forget sometimes that there are physical limitations to that…)

I’d like to insert a squeak for:
Single Items
1. Production (or LP) Rainbow Lap Dragon (EDIT: I know you’ve made them, but I’m leaving it on here till I manage to buy one, so you know there’s still interest!)
2. Violet Flame Lap Dragons
3. Twilight Lap Dragons
4. Another PYO griffin in another position (sitting? scratching?), so my PYO can have a mate!
6. Black Violet-Peacock Emperors!
7. Production Secret Keeper (and a chance to get her in retired colors — need that White!)
8. Moon Oriental, if there’s a chance of getting her in Peacock
10. New dragon sculpts — especially in the Male-OW size range. I think it would be really neat to have a “Gazing Dragon” along the lines of the Keeper, but with his hands cupped in front of him (so you could put a marble or something in them), looking down into them!Lines/Colors/Etc.
2. Production White Griffin Family — with the gold interference, and *yellow* eyes, to match the dragons! You could give them puma or lion colored rumps, to make them more griffin-y, if you don’t like a straight-up white?
3. Production Ocean Blue! With straw, light yellow, or golden/dichroic eyes.
4. Production Glacier Pearl! Wow, I love that color scheme!
5. Silver Koi Ki-Rin family! Like the one in Melody’s gallery that I’ve spent so much time trying to convince her is gorgeous. 🙂
6. Uh… did I mention Ocean Blue?! 🙂
Other StuffI really like the Lavender Pearl and Blue Pearl colors, too!
(I think it would be a really neat “club idea” to offer one sculpt in the Easter colors each year to club members! (You know — the fledgling in 2008, the Scratcher in 09, the Lap in 2010… that way people have to stick around to get a complete family, and it’s kind of a reward for the long-term fans who will get a chance to build an entire family.) I really liked the “Crocus” color, too; maybe for when you run out of Lav/Blue Pearl sculpts?)
Or just offer them as LP, maybe with a priority for orders made by forum members? Something along those lines, however you decided to set it up.

Right now I just have White and Silver, and my top priorities right now are Emerald and Black Gold. (And squeaking for Rainbow and Ocean Blue…)

Must convince her! Now that the store in M’boro has closed, there’s really no one in the region that sells Windstones (technically there’s one shop in Anna, but since they’re not even *open* without an appointment I doubt they actually have any in stock)!

The store in Murphysboro that used to carry Windstones has closed. There’s a store in Carbondale that I’ve talked to before, and she seemed somewhat interested, so I’m hoping a little pressure might sway her — I’m just one collector, but if she knew there were several potential customers, maybe it would make a bigger impression.
Anyone out there interested? I know there’s at least one more Southern Illinoisan on the forums! 🙂

do you think Pearl Ex blue interference powder would work as well? It’s much cheaper, and even if she didn’t want to spring for a bottle (it’s about $7, including shipping) I would be willing to send some of mine in a little baggie or something! It weighs practically nothing, I could drop it in an envelope easily.
I don’t know if you’ve ever tried it before — I used it on the wings of a gryphon (you can see him in my gallery), by dry-brushing it over gloss sealed black acrylic… it’s quite bright if you do a couple of layers!

I really envy all you people who have all your Windstones on one big shelf/counter/cabinet! Your collections look so beautiful and unified. Mine are currently divided between two states, and even if I brought them all together I wouldn’t have any furniture big enough to hold them all as a unit.

The old, old story — I saw one in a store as a kid (the store was Glass Menagerie, the dragons were a mix of Peacock and White), and knew I had to have them, and that White was THE color for me. 🙂 Saved up my allowance and bought the White Mother, then the Young, and then… well, I was in high school then, I’m 25 now, and I have the whole White family and am contemplating a search for the White Spectals (and continued pleas for a production White Secret Keeper)…
In addition to three PYO griffins, a Silver Lap and Emerald OW, BVP OW, two bookends, a Ki-Rin, a gothic unicorn, and plans for a family of Black Sunset griffins. 🙂

Well, I really only have one “follower” that I didn’t intend to buy, and that’s my Peacock Oriental. I went into the shop to see if they had a White piece I was wanting, saw him on the shelf, and fell in love instantly — despite never having really been interested in the Orientals, and never having any prior fondness for Peacock! 🙂 They didn’t have the White I came for, so I put in an order and then bought the Peacock Oriental to tide me over. 🙂
…And then I waited too long to get the rest, and had to pay inflated post-retirement prices to complete the family. ::smacks forehead::
But that’s it as far as unexpected followers. I’m a poor broke student, so my Windstone purchases have to be planned — much as I’d like to just stroll into the shop every week or so and walk out with whatever I like, it’s not possible (not even if I *had* a shop around that carried them).
My Silver Lap is kind of a follower, though! I saw the announcement for them about a week late, and dashed off to the Store terrified there would be none left, but there were 24 remaining. I wibbled for a week, then decided I could pay it off in a couple months if I paid with my credit card, so I snatched one. 🙂
