My daughter’s comment on Sir Garlen: he’s seriously underweight. Feed him!

Clearly he puts all his nutritional intake into growing those enormous horns!

Priorities, wolf friend, priorities. 🙂

Those old pieces are so cool, pipsxlch and Bodine!

I have an old Brown Male with no felt on the bottom; I’ve been keeping an eye out for a feltless old green Mother to go with him, but so far no luck.

The Amber eyes on that Brown hatcher are so neat! Even cooler than the tongue, which is pretty cute. 🙂 Does it have felt on the bottom?

Now I have to TRY not to refill it with more Windstones!

Isn’t that always the challenge! 🙂

I like the silver eyes, but green would have been pretty, too.

I sort of have a “hierarchy of needs” that determines how badly I want a piece. In rough order of what makes me “need” it:

(1) Love the Sculpt + Love the Color + Included Significant Meaning – ex. Prismatic Spring dragons & memories of family visits to Yellowstone
(2) Sculpt + Color match my main “Family” – my first Windstones were gifts, Western dragons in Rainbow & Emerald Peacock, and I’ve been trying to build a complete “blended” family around those pieces now that I can afford to buy my own
(3) Adore the Sculpt + Love the Color – ex. all the Pebbles in Silver Rainbow Sparkle! and the Leaf Cat Sconce, and Blue Morpho…
(4) Love the Color + Meh on the Sculpt – why I don’t have any hoofers yet, but holey moley some of those grab bags are *so* tempting…
(5) Love the Sculpt + Meh on the Color – why I don’t have any Orientals other than the Cool batch Young Ori GB

…Huh, I’d never sat down and made a priority list before. I guess now I know why my Windstone budget keeps going off the rails, when I’m supposed to be concentrating on the “Family” pieces. I’m supposed to be saving up for an Emperor, and then new GBs and LPs that land in category (1) or (3) come out…

Oh, this is so cool! I wonder what everyone else’s “priority list” would look like?

I’ve never tried to lay mine out in words, but I’ll try:

(1) Sculpt + Color Matches One of My Color Subcollections
(1a) The basic priority here is for new sculpts: a new sculpt in the Western dragon family must be acquired in White, as long as I don’t strongly dislike it; for blended groups, acquiring a sculpt I don’t have takes priority over acquiring a new color on a ‘repeat’ sculpt. (Example: my top priority for the Oriental collection is a Moon Ori in any color that blends with the group, while second priority is a Peacock Sitting Ori, because I have 0 Moons and 1 Sitting in the Oriental subcollection.)
(1b) For me this category automatically includes “with significant meaning,” because my White dragon family is the foundation of my Windstone experience. For months I saved up money till I could buy the White Mother at Glass Menagerie, back when there were only six Western Dragon sculpts available. I could have saved less and bought the Young instead, but no – I wanted my first piece to be BIG and worthy of all that anticipation. 🙂
(2) Adore the Sculpt + Love the Color
This is where the congas come in. 🙂 If it’s a favorite sculpt, I want one in every color that I like! I’ll happily skip over colors I don’t like, even if I love the sculpt, and stick with the ones that I think are the most beautiful.
(3) Love the Sculpt + Meh on the Color
For me this one will come down to “does it fit into a subcollection or ‘partner’ with another piece I own?’ Otherwise I’m going to pass, because there will always be another color option eventually.
(4) Love the Color + Meh on the Sculpt
(4a)This one is the hardest to resist! I’m trying not to add any more subcollections, so mostly I just sit on my hands to avoid “accidentally” ordering it and tell myself I’ll wait till the color comes out on a different sculpt. There have been several failures, though – I couldn’t resist color shift when it came out, and two color shift Cougars arrived to induct me into Cougar conga-ing and into Pebble collecting!
(4b)There’s one exception to my “pass on this” response, which is ‘meh’ sculpts that match my biggest color subcollection. I have several ‘meh’ sculpts in White because they’re part of the family, when I would never buy them in any other color.

Everyone else, how do you prioritize your acquisitions?

Not a squeak but a HUGE THANK YOU for releasing the Violet Flame Sun and Moon. Those were squeaks of mine for a long time now. Now if I could only get them in White

Seconding the big THANK YOU for this to Melody and the WE team for this release; I was so happy to see Sitting Orientals in a production color! I’m excited that this means the sculpt isn’t having any major casting or horn problems, and maybe soon there will be Sitting Oris in Peacock. 😀

How do you quote someone in your thread? I’ve been wanting to know for a long time but never asked until now

Look at the bar over top of their comment. On the left is their icon; on the right is a “Quote” button. Click that, and it will add their comment as a quote in the reply box for you!

Edited to add: but remember to delete all the smilies in the quote first, or they’ll come out gigantic.

I haven’t done GBS in anything larger than a Young uni- they are expensive enough! Plus the bigger the piece, the more it costs people to swap and ship them. But I’d love to do larger things.

Not ‘mother unicorn’ size, but on the subject of larger-than-Pebble GB sculpts, I must note that if you ever feel the urge to try your hand at a batch of GB Young Dragons, I’d be tempted! It’s one of the sculpts I really like, though I only have one right now. If there was a fantasy GB with some pretty blue Youngs in the bunch, I’d probably go for it in hopes of getting a companion for my blue test paint OW. He needs a young protege. 🙂

The Young’s still shorter than the Sitting Ori, I think, so that seems still within the reasonable size limit. (Though I have had the occasional wistful thought about GB Lap Dragons, hahaha!)

Funny how different everyone is….I also have a limited budget with even less space, and I keep adding the least-likely sculptures to my collection! Never thought I would own another OW, until Citrus came along. I never EVER thought I would collect Young Unicorns, and I have one on the way. It’s amazing what the right colours do.

It’s so true!

And I keep telling myself I’m limiting the sculpts I collect (outside of “everything Western in White”), and then I turn around and three Pebble Fennecs have appeared. “Didn’t I have a rule that I was only going to collect one fox sculpt?” I ask myself in bewilderment. “I’m sure that five Sitting Red Foxes should have been enough foxes for any sensible person.” Then I realize the problem: I am not particularly sensible!

This is a conundrum I’m still trying to answer!

My house is tiny, my attic is tinier, and I have this problem where I love L A R G E sculpts the most… 🙂 Right now most of the boxes are stacked in my attic in the farthest corner with a flat floor, but I’m honestly thinking about putting some hooks in my attic beams over the unfloored part and hanging 55-gal bags of boxes from them, because other things need the floorspace more!

Hahaha, drago0nfeathers, that was my reaction, too! 🙂

I need to be saving up for the eventual appearance of Sitting Orientals in Peacock, and the next fantasy Cougar or Fennec batch… or if all my squeaking comes to anything, Moonlight GB Lady Cats! <3

Fantasy pebble horses would be delightful because then I could finally skip a fantasy themed grab bag LOL! My wallet would be happy

Interesting!

I pretty much have to love both, or at least love one and not mind the other. With a limited budget (and limited display space), I rarely buy pieces if they’re not one of sculpts I already know I like, and definitely not if they’re a color I’m not enthralled by.

I’m pretty strongly drawn toward more old-school, single-color paintjobs, and usually I prefer cool colors, so that helps screen out a lot of things right there. 🙂 The two-tone look just isn’t for me, which my wallet appreciates though my heart sometimes regrets. (There have been things I *want* to love, but just couldn’t find them to my taste!)

I have one “color collection” – the White color on almost every Western dragon sculpt – and a couple “color must-have” pieces, like the Obsidian Frost OW and Overcast Lap, pieces whose colors are right up my alley and are featured on sculpts I love. I also have a couple of “conga collections” – a sculpt I love, in all the colors I love. (Lots of colors are not featured in my congas, because I don’t like them enough! I’m a selective conga collector rather than a ‘completionist’ conga collector.)

So far I’ve managed to stay away from hoofers, except for my kirin family (**shoves a random PYO unicorn in a closet**), and I haven’t picked up any poads or gargoyles, but every now and then a crack appears in my resolve and suddenly there’s another sculpt I now collect. 🙂 I started with zero Pebbles, and then came the Sitting Red Fox GB and now I have 5 Pebble foxes. I started with 0 Cougars, and then I got two, and now I have six… but I’m trying hard to draw the line and not add any more sculpts, because I’m running out of room! I’d rather concentrate on the ones I love most, and hold out for the colors I love most, so that I can see all of them on a daily basis instead of having some packed away.
