I guess you guys all travel a lot. You where in my neighbor hood when the stuff got stolen and you never even stopped by to let me know. I was out of town but still I did not hear a peep that you where here. Stockton CA is the next city south of me

Melody’s family was just passing through on their way up to OR… they unfortunately had to be there ASAP for some pressing issues and wouldn’t have had time for a side trip. They were only in Stockton as a very brief hotel stay at 2am.

How big who is? How’d you get that price? o.o

Secret Keeper is what I meant- and from one of the shop keepers- he said for the female gryphon but I doubt she’s that much…?

I’ll second SPark… sounds like he’s feeding you numbers! Secret Keepers are on hold as far as I knowl.. indefinately. They haven’t fixed the weight issue, because as it stands if they ever have them returned they end up losing money on them due to shipping costs. I sincerely doubt they know how much the Secret Keeper will retail for until they have the weight issue down-pat and know how much it will even cost to produce and ship them. If they are retailed at all.
And he’s out of his mind if he thinks the female griffin will retail for $750! I don’t know concrete numbers for her either but that’s a little rediculous. ๐Ÿ˜‰

        Maybe he’s just …. confused. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The mother gryphon might be more, I dunno. Remember that the males hit retail many years ago- prices and production costs have indeed gone up since then, so she might be a bit more pricey. But definately not $750. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Melody gave a soft estimate that the mother giffins might be out -on eBay only- this month, but nothing is ever for sure because they depends on so many different things that are out of their control. Secret Keepers are indefinately on hold last I heard.

my goodness what a mess i’ve made! i should go back where i came from, lol. ok, my most sincere apologies to nambroth and the windstone crew, i DEFINITELY agree that you don’t need any sketchy statements in regards to businesses on a business site here, i am very sorry for that, it was a BIG blip in a state of judgement impairing genuine exhaustion on my end. that was a mistatement (in the air of that famous south park catch phrase that i will not repeat to not speak obscenely again) that can have quite the unintended implications and it won’t happen again. again, i have dealt with grandio in the past and they are a good company and never had any issues. please accept my groveling apology and thank you cheryl for attempting to defend me. ๐Ÿ™‚ i’m a nice person (so i’ve been told) and i don’t mean any harm.pleeeeeeease!
also, i apologize about mentioning the ebay option to a store seller, although i thought i have seen sellers in the past that both had a shop and sold on ebay with the windstones, like that guy who had all the white dragons and said he’d pull em for a live person sale or something or other. for gosh sakes don’t quote me on that, but i know some peeps stated the wondered how he was to operate that legitly on ebay once bidders were involved. anyhoo, they had a total of 5 pieces, weren’t necessarily going to get any more at all since they didn’t really sell well there and the woman i spoke with didn’t even know how to use a computer, so the chance of them ebaying anything was HIGHLY unlikely. they expressed more of an interest in simply putting up signage to promote the retiredness of the pieces, and change the price lower or higher depending. nothing much to worry about, with that shop, but i can certainly see the concern and need to protect yourselves in the big picture from shop keepers who could abuse their buying power with you. i think that’s it, thank you. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s okay! We all say silly things sometimes. You’re allowed to have your opinion, absolutely.

As far as the eBay thing goes… Windstone had allowed retailers to sell online as well as in a store in the past. I just know that a recent rule is ‘no new online retailers’ so it’s a grey area, they might be allowed to sell a few pieces on eBay as long as they don’t go exclusively online since they are an established retailer. I’m just not sure. ๐Ÿ™‚ Sign-age in their storefront would be a great idea! Especially since only the people here would know they are retired. We don’t even represent a fraction of the collectors as a whole out there so most people don’t know they are retired. Signs would be good! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ah. So it’s possible these may turn up somewhere else entirely? How annoying. But in any case, in a way it’s better that they were pros, because I’d think they would be less likely to toss them in the trash and have them be gone forever.

Ah, but if they research and realize that they have hot items that they may not be able to sell due to them being so unique and recognizeable, they may just trash them. Hard to say. ๐Ÿ™

Still, no need to crucify a person for stating their opinion.

Also, I did want to ask, do we know what town the theft happened in? If we do, somebody can call all the pawn shops there and have them look for the stolen pieces. (I’d be willing to do so.) I think that’s really the best bet for getting them back.

Depends on how smart the crooks are. If they’re really dumb, they’ll not even know that the statues are valuable, and they’ll get thrown away. That’s honestly the worst thing that could happen, as we’ll probably never get them back. (Certainly not in one piece.)

If they’re only a little smart they’ll realize they’re worth something, and list them on ebay, where we WILL find them. (I don’t know about you guys, but I’m going to start regularly hunting for “lion unicorn” and any related search I can think of. That’s the one that’ll be easiest to spot.)

But if they’re smart enough to realize they’ll be caught doing that, then they’re going to sell them to a pawn shop, where they can get cash and be much harder to track down. This is still bad, but even if we don’t catch the theives, at least this way we can hopefully get the statues back.

I dunno what I’m allowed to share, I heard about this in a bit more detail and these guys seem like they were pros, probably with a network considering some of the other things they did.

I’d ask John but he’s out of town, but I’m not sure that established retailers are allowed to eBay Windstone. When retailers start carrying Windstone they form an agreement with Windstone on how they are allowed to sell the pieces.
Regardless if it’s only one or two pieces so that they can get some more stock in I don’t see the problem.

As far as badmouthing retailers that charge ‘too much’, please do keep it civil! People are welcome to share if they had a bad experience with a seller or individual, but let’s not slander especially when the only problem is a price that is higher than you’d like to see. Slandering retailers could actually get Windstone in trouble (this is their website) so let’s be adults.

I think most of us collect other things too.

The cat products will always sell best in general. I’d wager that at least 7/10 people can relate to cats or like them at least a little bit.

Make a list of everyone you know. Seperate that list in two columns by: everyone you know that likes or has owned a cat at one point in life, or would want to buy a cat-item for a loved one who likes cats. The second column should be a list of people that actively collect or really love dragons.

Compare the cat list to the dragon one.

I’ll bet the ‘cat’ list wins! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes, the $29.95 is much lower than it should be, completely disregarding shipping costs.

A few of us have answered this already, but curious minds ask- why do you collect Windstone?
What is it about Windstones that are appealing to you?
(Is it the subject matter? The colors? The quality? Because they’re art? Because of the people that make them? The urging of your forum buddies…?)

Let’s face it- Windstones, as all collectibles and artwork, are ‘luxury’ items. That is, even though we joke that we neeeeed more Windstones, it is possible to survive without them (which is not true for things like food [cost of groceries], shelter [rent or house payments], etc). So when people spend their hard earned money on a luxury item, there is something special about that item to the person doing the buying. I know that for me, whenever I sell a piece of artwork I always feel very flattered that someone would spend the cash on something I made that they didn’t necessarily need.

So, what are the reasons you collect? ๐Ÿ™‚
