Awesome! I went to several horse-centric Girl Scout Camps when I was a child, and took regular riding lessons, too. You’re so lucky that you had your own horse, though! My parents leased one for me for a couple of months when I was high-school aged – a handsome leopard Appy named Cookie – but it’s still not the same as a horse that belongs only to you. We should start a horse thread in the non-Windstone section so you can post some pictures of Gator! His name is cute. 🙂
Sorry to hear about your accident! It sounds like you’re healing, though, which is good. I hope you get to ride again! Did you ride English or Western? (Or something else? Bareback? Sidesaddle?) 😀
My customizing skills are beginner-level, but yep, I very much appreciate the work of those who are really good at it! I’ve branched out into Windstone repairs, too, and have patched up a couple of Lap Dragons with pretty good results. As with customizing horses, I’m still an amateur, but I’ve got an ad up in the classifieds in the hopes that I can find some more pieces to practice on and improve my skills!
Good luck deciding on your second piece! They really are addictive, aren’t they? I just bought myself a “Christmas present” Windstone because I noticed that the Store stock of something I wanted was almost gone and it seemed like a good reason to go ahead. 🙂

I’m going to sit this one out, since I’m not a hoofer collector (though the Gothic *is* my favorite hoofer!) but I really appreciate your posting, so that I can make that call.

What do you think of Pastel Rainbow? If you guys should ever decide to retire Shell Pink, I think Pastel Rainbow would be an excellent replacement. To me it seems significantly different-looking than most of the other colors. It is soft and enchanting and captivating where most of the other colors are rich and bold and vibrant. You’d think that liking Rainbow Pastel I would also like Shell Pink, but I don’t, it is too single-toned for my taste. In any case, fabulous work Gina!
Seconding this, if for opposite reasons – I like single-toned dragons, and Pastel Rainbow hits that note for me! I love Pastel Rainbow (and tried very hard to win the Lap Dragon, but just couldn’t go high enough), and I would *really* love to see it become an LP color someday! We haven’t had a pale dragon color since White was retired, so I feel like it’s a really exciting color direction.
As far as two-toned colors and dark colors go, I’m still madly in love with the Black Rainbow griffins; would love to see them as LPs someday too! (We’ve had a lot of “Black X” dragons, but not as many griffins – just Black Sunset, plus the original Black, right? So it wouldn’t be too much like other griffin colors!)

With Christmas fast approaching, I’d like to throw in a squeak for Pebble Foxes in color shift colors! They would make good stocking stuffers, or good “things to spend Christmas money on” come January! 🙂 I’m especially hopeful for Fennecs or Bat-Eareds, but I’d like to see them all eventually so it doesn’t really matter where you start. 😀
I’m still quietly squeaking for another batch of natural-colored BG Sitting Red Foxes, too. Given how few seem to be for sale, I think it’s safe to say they were a hit!

I used to ride! I took lessons when younger; mostly Western, sometimes English. I even worked a horse camp at the stables where I rode as a teenager once. It’s been years ago, though. I just don’t have the facilities, the time, or the right weather these days. Do you ride? Do you have a horse?
I’m not 100% sure about Fuzzies and Ebay, but I don’t see why not; if you win something, stick “Love, Fuzzy” in your order somewhere and see what happens. 🙂
“No nit-picking” editions are what Windstone calls some of their grab bags. They’re usually either the first big lot of a sculpt, or they’re a sculpt that for reasons of texture/size/casting process/other causes is difficult to paint cleanly. So there are sometimes small flaws in the gypsum, or the gysum causes small flaws in the paint; it’s a fancier way of saying “sold as is” because the pieces may have small imperfections. (The Horse grab bag was a no-nitpicking edition, and I know several other Pebble Animal grab bags have been NNPEs as well. I think the smoothness of these sculpts makes them hard to get perfect… Any miniscule flaw is magnified because it stands out more on the smooth surface.)
Which, come to think of it, is why I never customize larger models, only SM scale – the big models have too many large smooth surfaces that are impossible for me to get right. (Of course, I’m an amateur painter compared to Melody & Co! It’s probably just “hard” for them, instead of “impossible” like it is for me!)
Congratulations on your Armadillo, by the way! I’m glad to hear that you found one, and that was really quick for a piece that old! You should definitely post pictures once it’s in its new home. 🙂

Has anyone else made a post seemingly successfully, only for it to disappear?
I just posted to the Conga Show Off thread, and it appeared to work – after submitting, I was able to view the post and realized that I had forgotten a link that should have been in it, so I clicked “edit” and put in the link. When I hit submit from the edit page, however, it took me to a blank page of the thread (page 28). Looking at the Thread from the general forum page, it shows 28 pages of responses. The back button wouldn’t take me back to either the editing or the posting page, though, and when I went to the forum again from the header link it showed only 27 pages in that thread!
(I’m extra-annoyed because I had copied my post before posting, just in case something went wrong. But of course, once it posted I had to copy the URL that I’d forgotten to enter, so I lost all of the post text that I had copied! I thought it was safe because the post had gone through, but now I can’t repost what was eaten.)
This happened to me in another thread, too – a few days ago I posted in the Tell Me About Windstones thread, and I swear that my post did go through; but a minute later it was gone without a trace.
EDIT: this may be something on my end? When I went back to the main page, I noticed that the time has been updated – instead of the last reply being me “1 minute ago” in the Conga thread, it now says it was me “10 minutes ago.” However, when I try to view the last page of the thread, this is what I get:

Well, as far as conga update posts go, it’s not The Big One (TM) that certain people were waiting for, but I do have a couple of congas to share! I figured I would add a little life update to go with them, since I was looking back through this thread and musing on how much has changed since I first started it.
Last year I bought a house! Now I finally have a place to display my Windstone collections, after years of leaving most of them at my parents’ house or in storage. (It also means I have a lot less disposable income for expanding that collection, but I can SEE what I do own!) …That’s the theory, anyway. My birthday-and-Christmas present from my family this year was new flooring for the downstairs areas, because the house was a rental property before it was mine and the downstairs carpet and vinyl was just worn out. Cleaning and restretching the carpet let it last a year, but it was really time for something new. I’m going to have beautiful faux hardwood floors (like [url=https://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/c/Stormy-Gray-Oak-LVP-Tranquility-3SGO/10040980]these![/url]) through the whole area, instead of the mix of dingy beige carpet and burn-scarred pinkish vinyl!
We are doing most of the work ourselves, for cost reasons, so it has been slow (we’re at the mercy of my father’s schedule, and he’s a pilot) and messy (everything in my downstairs is covered in dust, except for the things that are covered in dustcloths!). I’ve moved all the Windstones that were displayed downstairs into the bedroom with the ones that hadn’t found a display place yet (after floors, what I need most are shelves!) I really want to take updated pictures, but it’s going to be a while before I’ll have a place to do a Lap Dragon conga photo session!
[b]However[/b], I have acquired a couple of smaller conga lines that could be photographed in their temporary upstairs home, so here they are!

I feel like I once read somewhere on the forums that the “heavy brow” male was a result of mold damage; Melody had to resculpt some of the face, and it resulted in the heavier, hooded eyelid version. But of course I didn’t bookmark it (and it was probably on the old forum anyway) so I can’t double-check. Does anyone else remember Melody telling this story?
