Many thanks for being so nice to the snakes, and bats, and other ‘scary’ critters too! Really enjoying all of the pictures 🙂

All of my good wishes for you and your family River. It’s a terrible thing for you all to endure, especially your son, but I have a feeling that you’ll be happily surprised by just how strong you all are through this, because you have each other to lean on. Your little guy sounds like a real trooper, he’ll come through things with flying colors with the rest of you to be his cheerleaders!

Goodness Opal, I can’t imagine how you felt (and still feel!) through that whole ordeal. Surely you’ll appreciate that much more every moment your daughter, your family, and yourself are healthy and together. That’s something we all need to do more of, but good grief what a harsh reminder!

Wow! I’m normally not a fan of pink anything but that spring rose emp. is gorgeous! Reminds me of antique china or a fancy tea set.

My fiance and I got our unis yesterday, and opened them after dinner together – what a treat for Valentines Day! Melody, as usual these are out of the park beautiful.
His is a lovely autumn winterberry with metallic silver eyes and an amethyst jewel. There’s flashes of purple interference over one hip, one shoulder, one ear, and one side of the neck.
And mine! I’m not looking hard enough and can’t spot her in the class photo. She has a leaf pattern but the edges are outlined with gold, so it looks more like a lacey oak leaf. She has dark red eyes and an amethyst jewel.
We can’t decide if we’d like to trade… I had my eye on a particular silver leaf with a broad pattern and blue spots, but I know with so many in the batch there will be several whose true beauty was hiding in the class photo 🙂 Hannah, you’re welcome to use these in your directory!

Waiting for Arbor Day with you, Etruscan! I rent and haven’t broached to my landlord whether he’ll let me plant in the ground (yet!), but for now I have a bunch of plants bundled in pots outside that I’m hoping have weathered the winter.
A habit I’ve never been able to break is picking up seeds when I travel. I’ll eat a weird fruit or see an unusual tree, and a seed becomes a perfect souvenier! I’ve been lucky to sprout many of those seeds, and they turn into great living reminders of the memories of the trip. When my guy and I are able to settle into a home and call it quits to renting, I’ll have a small forest ready to come out of their pots and literally put roots down 🙂

Haven’t gotten mine in the mail yet, but I have a color scheme planned for the whole family; male, female, and two pups. I haven’t painted the pups yet and I have a feeling that mom’s going to be so pretty, I won’t be able to wait for the father 🙂 I hope I can hold out and paint them all at the same time, so I won’t have to try matching colors and mixing multiple batches of paints.

My sympathies to you and your family Kiya, I hope those good memories carry you through the rough times when you’re missing him the most.

January 26, 2013 at 2:48 pm in reply to: IMPORTANT: Eye Sockets on PYO – READ BEFORE PAINTING #892330Plain old white glue (like Elmer’s) has worked well for me. It is a good consistency to partially absorb into the gypsum stone of the PYO while enough stays on the surface to establish a good bond with the glass. Super glues or nail glues are often so thin that they soak entirely into the statue, and they, along with other glues, turn yellow over time. White glue should stay relatively stable over the long term so long as it isn’t exposed to being soaked in water, or crazy high humidity.

These livestream sessions are always fun to watch, thanks for letting us in on the process of getting these unis finished!

Wow, very pretty! I like the mixing of colors around the belly area 🙂
If you’re looking to tone down the gloss finish on the paint, you can brush a satin or matte clear gloss coat over it. Or, if you use a sealant to finish the whole piece that is flat or matte, that will do the same thing.
As for making the yellow pop, you could do something like a bright yellow wash over the yellow parts, to bring out some of the detail in the scales. Or spots, maybe. It’s up to you!
Best of luck, it’s looking great already.

January 14, 2013 at 10:34 pm in reply to: The new Supernatural Candycorn Grab Bag Baby Unicorns #891682Pam, I like your idea! It helps folks keep track of their own pieces, anyway.
It would also help if everyone sent in pictures of their unis and poads to Hannah for her directories. It’s a reference for the batch (at least for poads and baby unis) that’s accessible by all, and it’s also nice to drool over pictures that are more detailed than the class photos 🙂 I understand that GBs can go to folks who aren’t active in the collector community, or for privacy reasons don’t want to post photos, but this would cover the majority of GB pieces.

January 13, 2013 at 4:32 am in reply to: The new Supernatural Candycorn Grab Bag Baby Unicorns #891628I’m loving the lichen pattern, and that silvery oak leaf uni is sublime! It’s going to be tough to not be glued to my e-mail in paranoia over the next -however long- until they’re in the shop 🙂

A perfect example of how some of these poads look completely different above and at a distance in their class photo, compared to the side views. Thanks for posting pictures!
