While there’s not much on Ol’ Sandy yet, I definitely look forward to seeing progress and completion! There’s a lot you can do with neutral tones and sandy browns go so well with so many things.
I absolutely loved your Greek pantheon set so I cannot wait to see your Egyptian one. If I’m allowed to make a suggestion: I’d love to see Bast, Anubis, Isis, Ra, and Set in your pantheon (those are kind of staples, I think) but also Sobek. I bet you could do amazing things with a crocodile god. ^_^
This one hasn’t been shown yet: a butterfly-based pyo wolf done by the amazing Bodine. She also painted a keeper and another wolf for me as part of a trade but the pictures I took of those pieces were blurry. So here’s this one for now.
November 25, 2017 at 5:24 pm in reply to: Mother Coiled Dragon Koi & Autumn Leaf GB Show Off Thred 10/19/17 #1532299I was going to post pictures of these last Saturday but other things came up. I gave in and got a koi and an autumn after they sat in the store a few days post-release (bye bye remaining kickstarter money). I think the only thing that would have made the koi one better is a blue stone–sodalite, lapis lazuli, labradorite, etc. It’s hard to see in my photo since the light wasn’t cooperating but there’s blue interference on the curves of the wings and the spinal crest portions of the black stripes. Super happy since a lot of the koi were touch and go, and I’d been hoping for one of the “safari” koi if not a marbled red or blue/white/grey one. The autumn I’m more ambivalent about. I love that it has an amethyst and lavendar eyes and the painting/detailing on the wings is gorgeous, but it has a lot of oranges. However it’s still beautifully painted and well-balanced in color so I don’t mind it either.
No problem!
And yeah…I forgot to mention that the pictures don’t show up unless you refresh the page. When I was first experimenting with it trying to get it to work, the sent PM only showed the code/link so I thought it had failed…man, was it a hassle! After I refreshed the page however they popped up like daisies.
Thank you all for the kind words, prayers, and warm feelings. Going out to the barn today to feed our old man (42 years old, and the one we were expecting to have problems…) is that much harder because you look and expect to see four horses and there’s only three now. My mom hasn’t slept at all other than catnaps because every time she closes her eyes she sees him and thinks about him. 🙁
It’s even more heartbreaking to see Sunny, another horse and Flash’s bestest buddy, cuddled up to the other two horses (one of which he doesn’t particularly like) and acting out towards us. It’s rough for everyone.
@StormDancer My sympathies for you, even though your loss was some time ago. Yes…the frustration after working so hard to save him when it was already too late, wondering if there was anything different you could have done, the physical exhaustion coupled with emotional heartache…it truly is awful. It’s an experience I would neither want to repeat nor wish on another person. Thank you for sharing your story and your empathy.I don’t use imgur but I use the hosting link exactly as it is (right click + copy link location with Firefox), sandwiched between [i.m.g.] and [/.i.m.g.], minus the periods.
Well. Today was a day I wish I could write out of the book of my life. We went out to feed our horses (our oldest has no teeth and requires beet pulp mixtures for easy eating) and found our 22 year old appaloosa down in the field. Not just down either, but rolling and preferring to stay belly up–never a good sign. We did manage to get him to his feet and up near the barn but he just kept going down and rolling belly up as if it were the most comfortable position for him. And to top it off, it’s like 40 degrees outside with freezing rain sheeting down. We’ve no idea how long he was down like that either–could have been an hour, could have been all night.
Anyway…we manage to call the vet and the only one who can come out is the one we dislike (he’s not comfortable around horses as he prefers to work with sheep and cows). We assume the problem is collick. It turns out to be much worse: a twisted gut, which can only be fixed with surgery (minimum five-thousand we don’t have).
So we had to euthanize him.
The vet gave us a number to call for humane disposal–which we did–and the guy’s trailer and truck get stuck right next to our barn due to all the rain essentially making it a mudpit.
The whole ordeal took about four hours, from realizing the horse was ill to the moment the carry-away services left our property. I’m cold down to my bones, muddy as heck, exhausted, and in physical and emotional pain. My mom is taking it a lot worse though…you know how people compare horses to big dogs? That’s exactly what Flash was to my mom. A big dog. They were bonded in that one-to-one special way that only a person and her pet can be. Every time we went out there he’d come and stand right behind her, and follow her around. Nibble at her pockets where he knew she kept the horse treats. He had a special whicker sound just for her. It always sounded like he was chuckling.
Today just sucks. And it was such a sudden thing too.
Happy birthday!
…but it’ll grow on you.
Literally. It will. (insert facepalm and shake of head here) Lolololol.
Congratulations!
Awww. What an adorable bundle of joy! And talk about the timing too…grats on the new addition!
I really like the name Grimm for the little guy!
My first thought though was Raven but if that’s too effeminate, then Corvin or Corvus, from Corvidae (the scientific family for ravens).
It looks like he has big ears, rather bat-like…so maybe Echo?
October 26, 2017 at 6:58 am in reply to: Mother Coiled Dragon Koi & Autumn Leaf GB Show Off Thred 10/19/17 #1531088Congrats Skee and MandBsMom! Those are some really pretty kois!
This is my shameless plug for coiled mothers I’m interested in seeing better/more pics of and are ones I consider faves! I’m going to make an ad too…but this is just in case people don’t check the ads regularly. I really love the store photo one…but that purple-headed one looks interesting too. Don’t hesitate to PM me if you get one of these four and aren’t happy with it!
Thanks guys! ^_^
I absolutely love Neptune! That vibrant teal with the dark socks/muzzle is to die for! (And the foundation is so prettily painted too!)
Your foxes are adorable. You really have a gift for painting and highlighting the fur to make it look soft yet sleek, even with the copper penny coloration. I also really like the smoldered silvers used on the pyo kirin.
We are now waiting for more mineral globes to be sent to us. Turns out natural mineral globes vary a lot in size, and they don’t all fit ! I was hoping these dragons would be ready end of this week, but knowing us, that means next week.
Would it be weird to take class photos of them without the globes? If you’re waiting anyway and you have the time to take them, it could be something to do…
Somehow I managed to completely not see this topic the last time I was online. Thanks all! ^_^
I really liked Prarievixen’s idea of pourds (gourd-themed poads) she mentioned in another thread. Of course, I’m definitely an advocate of things I don’t want but love to see–like autumn/Halloween pebbles–so that I’m not burning (more) money that I don’t have. Eh heh heh…
