I finally got back around to working on this beastie. He’s more or less done. The eyes aren’t permanent because I’ve yet to decide whether or not to have custom ones made (the metallic tan don’t look bad but they aren’t quite what I felt they’d be either). The first picture is probably the most accurate in coloration, although you don’t really see the faint light pink in the nostrils and inner ears.
I also need to go back and finalize the clearcoating but I haven’t finished tweaking the antiquing of the mane. The darker tail and lower mane worked out okay but the blending on the mane (from pale tan to light pink to darker pinks) gets swamped by the darker antiquing color). I expect the furry bits to be matte finish with the scales being glossy or satin. I spent so much time blending into the chocolate points and lighter throat/cheek fur that I didn’t want to risk muddling the fur with antiquing.
I absolutely love how the scale staining turned out though. I debated trying to add the gold on the scales but went with antiquing to make it easier on my poor twitchy arms. And yes, it does have a bit of a pearly glow/sheen to it in the right light. 😀
Knowing me, he’ll probably not be permanently finished for awhile but at least I can set him aside and be mostly satisfied. Clearcoating suuuuucks on scales, especially when it’s matte being used–so many bubbles!
Well. I find myself more than a bit torn on this lil’ baby.
I desperately wanted a silhouette…
and I got one, in colors that are not particularly to my taste. There is no doubt that she’s beautiful though, reminiscent of a sunset or deep dawn (if only she were twilight-colored instead…so close to perfection). I love that her muzzle is darker than the shades in the length of her nose. She has a forest scene of black trees with gold leaves, with a buck ambling on her display-side rump. Her eyes are lavendar and I believe her gem is as well (seems to be a very light purple).
I will consider trades for her but being as she’s absolutely lovely I will be picky. Please don’t be discouraged if I say no. She’s almost exactly what I was hoping for.
My apologies in advance if the pictures come out huge. I did crop and scale them but probably not enough.
Also…I really miss the Preview button for posts/ads…
That’s some gorgeous work on the mane; I love how softly the phasing phasing goes from black to white (bronze?) on the body). And the colors on the rock are a sharp, vibrant contrast to the body. It’s great so far!
@Benathorn I’m not one much for flamboyant pieces but that zebra is something else!
@Natasha Wowza! That purple zebra! My heart, she squeals!
@Betrluk1 The silhouettes on your mother’s piece are stunning, and the details of the dragons on yours are fantastic considering how small the baby unicorn piece is.So many lovelies so far!
All of my messages carried over fine, but they were “hidden”. If you go to the Messages tab in your account info, there’s four categories under the main bar: Inbox, Starred, Sent, and Compose. I found most of my messages under the Sent tab upon clicking it.
For me, aside from ads requiring approval (something I’m sure they’re working on as I doubt they want to waste their time every day to do just that), the biggest problem is the cover photos. Even when I use the recommended size the image gets cut off. And if a picture isn’t loaded for it, it seems to completely block the main bar of tabs (listings, messages, etc) unless I stop the page before it completely loads.
Happy Birthday! Hope it’s a good one!
Here’s another shot of that weird-spotted appy.
Knabstruppers are gorgeous, too.
Blue roan gypsy vanner (fluffy things are fluffy)
And a fresian+gypsy vanner crossbreed that–while it has normal coloring–is ridiculously poofy
Is it bad that I’m totally excited to NOT have to stalk the store because I have no interest in these fellows at all? I mean, I can appreciate them for how gorgeous they are, but horses are just not my thing unless they got wings or a horn. (Which is good for me in a collectors sense or else I’d have to start renting a storage facility for the sheer masses since there is SO MUCH out there)
I dunno… It’s just so… freeing… like going commando… but in a Windstone sort of sense. LOL! No worries… No hassle or disappointment if I miss out…
*kicks back and sighs* Ahhhhhhhh…
I can completely agree on the sentiment…though I might have to hold you accountable for the water I coughed up onto my computer screen when I tried laughing and swallowing at the same time (going commando…no, just no lol).
I love horses…always have, always will. When it comes to my Windstones, however, the ones I like best are the mythological beasties. Aside from that I nitpick on details (thus I’ve found the pony pebble just isn’t all that appealing to me) AND I have a hunch the colors I’d want most (dark gray dapples, maybe leopard appy) would be most highly sought.
I’ll be sitting with you on the sidelines this time around. Maybe instead of going commando though, we’ll call it going braless? Freeeeeeeeedoooooooooom.
Huzzah, pictures! And the ones you took look much better than the ones I did, Siberakh. I don’t think I actually used interference paints; if I recall, most of the tail/mane/fins was done with metallics and pearl-ex powders…but that was awhile ago and my brain is fuzzy. It doesn’t show up well in pictures but there’s three layers of color on most of the scales, a coppery color (which was going to be the original fin color), atop the purple I used on the fins, atop the sapphire scales.
I had so much fun painting this girl that I almost didn’t want to let her go! That rock gave me a headache though…grrr.
Siberakh giving me free reign was both a blessing and a curse, too. I ended up spending time looking at a lot of fish before I inspiration hit:
Love that hippocampus !! Its beautiful 🙂 Are you allowed to order a set of eyes in 2 diff colors when you order a PYO ?
I don’t think you’re “allowed” to, in so many words. However, Susie is a venerable goddess. I put a note in a store order explaining my dilemma about the eyes for this PYO swap and she delivered. I’ve also had to ask for replacement felt pads for the two dragons I’ve ordered (one completed, one yet to be done) and she helped me out there, too. She’s a rock star who goes above and beyond!
In general I’m not much one for pastels, particularly pinks. In spite of my bias, though, I think she looks lovely and the ombre effects you have between the dark blue and the light pink are very well done.
Rather than Andromeda you might’ve called her Sylvie…especially with her being right in front of her buddy Sylveon in that last picture. 😉
Squeee! Girlish glee!
My swap arrived today and I’m positively floored. It wasn’t what I was expecting but it’s absolutely gorgeous! I give you Bodine’s “Sea-Wolf.” I love how the stained-glass effect on the tail is broken out so it looks like tiger stripes as well as–whether by accident or design–the colors on the tail looking akin to a salmon’s green-white-pink coloration.
Wolfie was thoughtfully accompanied by a lavendar fuzzie who’s currently sprawled across his back in addition to half a dozen small seashells (double squee since I have a small collection of shells and rocks from what little traveling I’ve done).
It was overcast today so I’m a little dissatisfied with the pictures though the one with the flash shows all the pretty metallics in the piece.
Thank you so much Bodine! ♥
I would say do the spots between the ribbing of the tail fin, along the blue lining like you’ve done on the other body fins, but use larger dots on the outside edges of the fin and gradually going smaller as you move toward the joint between the lobes of the fin.
Edit: Conversely, you could also put the spots along the top of the fin instead of along the blue lining. Or just carefully use the blue to highlight the natural dips already present on the tail fin so that you’d have rows of the dots going up from the end of the fin.
My recipient should be getting hers tomorrow, mail personnel willing and able to do their jobs properly. However, I neglected to put my forum name anywhere like a cracked-in-the-head looby, so all she’ll have is my real name…
Man I’m smart sometimes! >_<
A day late and a dollar short, but belated happy birthday Jynxx! ^_^
It’s adorable how you painted the cats favorite things on the bibs! Even with the fur patterns being simplified, the line-work looks smooth and spectacular. And I love the subtlety of the markings on the tabby.
