So, while waiting for my young Ori to arrive, I started tracking which ones showed up or were claimed. I’ll probably keep doing it, it’s pretty fun. For the one-week status – 31 of the 94 Young Sitting Oriental Dragons in the Feb. 2019 grab bag have been posted in the forums (orange mark) or classifieds (green mark). I haven’t seen any on eBay yet. If pictures were posted in the forum, I noted the first page.
First up: the Wild batch

February 15, 2019 at 7:46 pm in reply to: Grab Bag Young Sitting Oriental Dragon Showoff Thread #1557549Mine arrived! Top right corner of the Cool batch class picture. I couldn’t get a good picture, so I’ll have to wait until I can snap it in daylight. Black and metallic / pearlescent teal with silver accents. I really like the color-shift detail on the scales, and I think the entire body has a coat of sparkle paint.

Whisker Hunter West mentioned this in the grab bag thread, but I’ve a squeak to see this color scheme on kirins and other sculpts! It’s lovely.
Squeak squeak squeak!

February 9, 2019 at 5:45 pm in reply to: Grab Bag Young Sitting Oriental Dragon Showoff Thread #1556487I really wouldn’t mind a whole line of orientals – or kirins or griffins – in something like the mahogany color scheme!

February 7, 2019 at 10:12 pm in reply to: Grab Bag Young Sitting Oriental Dragon Showoff Thread #1555973I think my absolute favorite is in the Wild batch – the black-base mahogany and “natural” colors and gray(?) eyes – but I don’t really like those odds. XP He’d look amazing in a grouping with some fossils and rocks I have, though.
I snagged one of the Cool Colors batch instead, since they were still in stock when I got home from work. Almost all of the Cool batch count as second-favorites, though if I get the orange/red?-eyed fellow, he’ll be up for trade. I can’t seem to shake my childhood association from the Pern books that red eyes = angry, blue eyes = happy dragons, heh.Continuing the family tradition of being obsessed with shiny things.
My Christmas card arrived and I have to agree with everyone – it’s beautiful! Thank you! Though now I want to somehow wallpaper my apartment with that background, sparkles and all…

For a hangable ornament idea, how about: little mini-pebbles! Even just in solid or color-shift paint jobs. Nesting in some sort of holder – a classic bird-style nest suspended by strings, an acrylic bubble, a wire frame or birdcage… My favorite is the open-sided glass domes.
Heck with being seasonal decorations, I adore hanging baubles and can find plenty of places to tuck a Windstone version!

For a while, it seemed like every time I went to post an updated class pic call-out, a new one showed up. But it’s been over a week now, so maybe all the ones in play have been seen. By my count, 45 of the 83 pebble loaf dragons in the class pic have shown up on the forum or eBay.

I’ve still been trying to keep track, because at this point why not! =) I just didn’t want to continuously spam the forum with updates and clog whatever server hosts the pictures.
As of today, 40 of the 83 in the main batch have showed up on the forums, classifieds, or eBay:

Squeaking for more curled, coiled, and coiled mother dragons with stone marbles. The pastel rainbow curlie with the rose quartz is gorgeous! It and the blue morpho curlie have a different feel than the others with their clear glass marbles.
Also hoping that silver rainbow sparkle batches of pebble dragons and fennecs will be slipped in behind the grab bags. I may be slightly addicted to that color scheme. =)

The biggest risk of selling off part of your complete family is that if you come to regret the decision, it could become impossible to reassemble the set. I would also recommend that you wait to sell until you’re really completely truly certain that you’re completely okay with that.
I would also note that you don’t have to display it as “whole collection” to enjoy it as a complete set. Are there other items you display that could be complemented by a hatcher? Doesn’t have to be Windstones, or even “collectibles”. Example: the copper hatchling would look cute beside a set of copper kitchen storage tins. Hatchlings hiding among leafy plants would be cute, if you can keep them safe from the water. At any rate, the point is that if you still adore them, you might be able to find places to scatter them around your home, where they can be a hide-and-seek set.
As for me, my main collection is a blended dragon family, rainbow – emerald peacock – black violet peacock. If rainbow hadn’t been discontinued, it would be a straight-rainbow family, but that’s just not how things worked out, and I actually like the blend better than a “pure” family. It gives the family a bit more character to my eyes, and links the colors to particular times of my life. I have a few other pieces – Pebbles, candle laps, and a couple of gift dragons – and most of those will never be a “set”. I just found places where they fit with other things. I am working on a set of silver rainbow sparkle Pebbles, because OMG so much sparkle, but they’re also “neutral” color-wise and so small I anticipate never having a challenge finding a place for them.

My fire-plumaged dragon has found a new home, and traded places with an almost water-themed sibling. They are even neighbors in the class pic – 2nd and 3rd from the right on the 2nd row. This dragon has a rather fascinating color-shifting paint job that changes between bright teal and almost green depending on the lighting, with silver accents and silver eyes.

If the tall case bugs you, you could play with the height by putting your dragons on risers of some sort? Some people have found little furniture that their Windstones can lounge on (pebble cat in a trunk was my favorite). Blocks of craft / floral foam covered by a draping fabric would be an easy way to make pedestals. If you do raise them, you could add colored pebbles or glass to the ground – filling in those rainbow colors until you get the right dragons, maybe. You could even make a full scene – someone did a really nice landscape with a set of gryphons that had me sighing over.
Don’t mind me, I ramble. As it is, your display is already really cute, and rainbow displays are so fun!

Hmm. you’re right, GardenNinja – thanks for the catch! I think I had yours confused with the more teal-looking fellow, top row 5 from the left -very similar spot pattern, just without the little feathers below the wings. Going by colors has proved unreliable – the one next to yours with the gold spots is the one Mika received, which has a very blue forehead in her pictures!
I found 1 loaf dragon on eBay, coincidentally learning how to search for finished auctions, bringing the total known dragons to 32!
