I think part of what’s suspicious, to those of us who are, about the zero-feedback thing is the broader context of their bids. Yes, we all started out as newbies with zero feedback! But when I was a brand-new baby Ebayer with zero feedback, I wasn’t bidding into the thousands of dollars on multiple items at once (someone upthread noted that they’re also bidding on an item sold by Melody); I eased into it, building up feedback one transaction at a time. Having no experience isn’t suspicious in itself, but an account with no feedback appearing out of nowhere to bid multiple thousands of dollars on at least two simultaneous auctions is, uh. Unusual, to say the least.
Plus, I was a collector (of Windstones, and of other expensive collectibles) long before I was an Ebayer, so things like poor photos and visibly-damaged items would be a big deal to me and I’d be pushing hard for better descriptions and pics before I bid $50, never mind $1K. So that makes the whole thing odder, and less like what I’d expect from somebody who was new to Ebay but had joined because their fave collectibles were on there. Collectibles tend to lose a LOT of their value when they have even minor damage, and if this person is a legitimate collector who’s just new to Ebay, I’d think they would know that and wouldn’t be bidding so intently on that lot; there’s only one pic and it’s not very high quality, but it’s still obvious enough that at least one piece is significantly stained or damaged, which would make me wary of the rest being so poorly depicted and undescribed!
As someone else mentioned, too, the shipping quote raises huge red flags; if the buyer were a Windstone collector, they’d know that the quoted price couldn’t possibly ship all those heavy pieces to them! I’d expect to see some sign that the buyer had been questioning the seller before bidding so high and persistently.
The timing is weird, too — with so much time left on the auction, why is this person bidding so hard, and coming back so often to re-bid? Maybe they’re inexperienced, but to my mind that would generally result in more hesitation to bid high; I know I wouldn’t have bid $1.5K on anything with more than six days left when I was a newbie! (Probably wouldn’t do that now, either!)
TL;DR summary: it’s not really that they have zero feedback, it’s that their bidding seems illogical and/or improbable for a new-to-Ebay Windstone fan OR a new-to-Ebay-and-Windstone fan in various ways!
(Fun fact: I’ve been on Ebay for so long that my earliest transactions were paid for by check or money order! I have, and have left, feedback about my checks clearing/my payment being received.) 🙂

I agree more lap dragon colors and more mice! Also I really liked the idea of moonlight Panthers!
Yay, another Lap fan! Us Lap-Dragon fanciers need to stick together for louder squeaking, and maybe there will be more Water Sprite Lap Dragons? (Mouse fanciers should stick together, too! There don’t seem to be many of us around… maybe it’s all the cats that have been coming out lately?) XD
I wish there was a thread for “show your fave test color, and explain what sculpt(s) it would look best on/vote for which sculpts it should appear on”! 😀 😀 😀

Wonder if the seller has decided taking the auction down is too much trouble, and it’s easier to “win” it with a fake account and just hand nice positive feedback all around? (Does eBay charge a fee to cancel an auction? Otherwise it seems like a lot of trouble to create a fake account to bid on yourself, but if there’s a fee and the opportunity to boost your rating, maybe it’d seem worth it to some people?)

And did anyone else look closely at the picture and notice that something way weird is up with that White Mother Dragon? She looks like she was the victim of a bad attempt to make her a koi dragon… or perhaps she spilled her morning coffee all over herself! Yikes. And of course there is no description of each item’s condition in the auction text.

I absolutely adore his face and his little prancy pose! I’m not a huge fan of the raised-edge scales, though, so I’d love to see a more ‘natural’ smooth-scaled version at some future point!

I was really pleased with how they came out; I tried to do a “slow fade” with the pattern as it approached the body, to mimic the fade effect of the body points. (And I did a basic Siamese-esque fade on the backs of the wings, but with metallics — bronze and bronze/gold — instead of the same body color.)

I’ve decided to hold off for now, in favor of commissioning someone to do a PYO that I’ve wanted for a very long time, but depending on the financial situation after that, we’ll see! I’ve really enjoyed seeing everyone’s new pieces, and I noticed that at least one person was convinced to love the VFs thanks to this thread, so your photo efforts are appreciated by more than just me – though I definitely do appreciate them a lot!

Wow, what a trial you and Pricy have had!
I think my closest feat was when I saw a male Griffin in the original Wolf color for sale at a convention, and bought him on the spot. Only later did I realize that trying to fit a piece that big (with protective box) into a carry-on backpack means that you’re going to have room for maybe one slim paperback and a couple of kleenex along with it, if you’re lucky (and you better hope you have a big enough backpack… and that its zippers don’t break under the strain)!
Not to mention how much fun it is to haul 15 pounds of gypsum on your back through three large airports. 😀 😀 😀
Thankfully he did make it home safe, and I learned my lesson about large souvenirs, so I guess we can learn from each other’s stories when it comes to “how not to buy a Windstone”!
(I am a little surprised you couldn’t have purchased a slightly-larger carryon bag, though, unless it was just a very last-minute packing job and you didn’t have time!)
