I’m sorry – I don’t see ANY sense in bidding any piece up that high. But that’s just me. I know the bidders have every right to use their money on whatever they want to use it for.

I guess the winner has a lot of disposable income. Congrats on that.

This is how I feel about pretty much every ebay auction 🙃

Not my photo. I did also see a video of the guy.

Use to have to wrap pipes in Arizona when it got cold. You wouldn’t think a blanket or towel would do much, but never did have a busted line.

The weather was nuts last week. We had a 15F degree day, followed by a 25F degree day that had freezing rain. The city pretty much shut down. I saw so many people (and dogs) eat it on the sidewalk, and there are videos of people ice skating on the sidewalks. I somehow didn’t fall or slip once… The day after that it was in the 40s and it’s been straight rain since. What is even going on? (I’m loving it lol)

If anyone wants a “master” link for a ton of videos of people slipping on the ice, and cars being destroyed, here it is https://twitter.com/jammonravager/status/1606579301557882881

I got mine a couple days ago, painted by Bernadette Durbin. My very first hippocampus; very happy to have one for my collection! He even came with a cute little story about him. Thank you!

The piece I painted was delivered yesterday, so I believe I’m good to post photos of what I painted.
I haven’t painted a PYO since… well, the last swap I participated in (years). He’s painted with acrylic… much different than my standard medium to paint pyos in. He was also a nightmare to photograph (:

You really out did yourself on that pegasus. Do you have any full pictures?

Love that unicorn! I imagine she already has a new home? (if not, I’ll take her! >__>)
Have you ever made recordings of your painting? I often wonder how some you do it.

The one I painted was suppose to be delivered today, but weather is delaying it. Tomorrow, tracking now says 🙂

Well. I recently purchased a rare video game on ebay. I didn’t want to deal with bidding, or possibly having it be bid up beyond what I really wanted to pay (as I’ve seen this a lot for the game), so I actually submitted an offer for more than they started the auction for. It was accepted and now I have the game without dealing with any of the hassle.
So no. As mentioned above in the thread and my reply, it’s useful if you really want an item. Though yes, I think most people would assume you would only offer something lower than the asking price. That being said, as a seller, you obviously don’t have to accept any of the offers… so whether it’s there or not doesn’t exactly mean you’ll sell the item for less than you’d want.

Mine is going out tomorrow.

To whomever painted for me: It is unlikely to occur, but has in the past. If tracking indicates that the package was delivered “to front desk/mailroom” PLEASE TELL ME. They are suppose to use the parcel lockers, but so far it has happened three times where they just left a package out for anyone to take. One was a windstone, too (and of course, this was the package that was stolen).
If tracking says it was delivered to “parcel locker”, then everything is good.

When delivered to the locker, I get an email. Otherwise I get no notification at all that a package is downstairs.

Plenty of us forum members have one of a kind pieces. Only one ever made. A lot of ebay items also have several made (in example, 5 of the same item painted the same way). Those are (generally, not always) signed and numbered. There really is no reason to number every single item that leaves the store.

When it comes to copper patina, that coloration was made to salvage “bad” or “flawed” castings. If only five have currently been made, that likely means there haven’t been any flawed castings since. Personally I don’t know how these gargoyles were sold (ebay or the store), so I can’t really say anything for sure.

Windstone keeps the disclaimer up that they could at any time paint a piece in a previous color… that way they aren’t “trapped” into discontinuing something they want to paint again. That has, indeed, happened before.

I was a fool and offered to do a couple 60 hour work weeks with 12 hour days. I’m a little behind on mine, but not enough that’ll be an issue. He will still be finished in time 🙂

They are very sharp in that paint job! Hoping for not blue eyes in that case though, red would look good here.

You can see in the photo that they have blue eyes. I too greatly dislike the blue eyes in the black gold color.
I use to own the entire black gold collection (before more sculpts were made). Slowly sold some off… the biggest factor were the blue eyes. I love black colorations (and BG is my favorite from WS) but I couldn’t justify keeping sculptures I didn’t really care for when the eyes bugged me -that much-.

I should say that I have zero interest in this sculpt, so everything I’m saying is about larger piece grab bags in general. I have purchased a grand total of two grab bags (qi-lin), and the whole “not liking it” is exactly why I stay away from GB. But I liked the qi-lin a lot so I jumped in.

When it comes to a high price tag (like Mika said, $600 would likely be a low ball price for this sculpt as a GB imo) GB, people will definitely be inclined to not be happy to pay so much for something they don’t like. And really, I paid twice the price for my koi qi-lin, due to dishonest people, and I can say for certainty that the higher price tag I paid is one of the reasons I’m not happy with getting a piece I don’t like.
Just applying that logic to a piece with an high initial price tag is all.

Honestly, I don’t think a larger piece is suited for a GB for reasons listed by others and myself. I would think just throwing them up on ebay would be a better option.

The more I read about “alternative” ways for getting pieces someone wants, the more I wonder if it doesn’t just sound kinda like commissioning Melody for a personal piece. Kinda defeats the purpose of “grab bag”.

You also run the risk of just not being able to swap it. The latest qi-lin I got… I don’t like him at all. But I’m pretty sure I’m stuck with him. So at that point you have the feeling of “why did I even buy this”.
That aside, I don’t think shipping would be that much of a factor for swapping. If people want something, I’ll pay (I’d gladly pay to ship my qi-lin overseas if it meant I got one I liked). However I can’t imagine the initial price tag for a larger piece… THAT I would think might be too much for grab bag territory. But who knows.
