  • To ease some of the checking traffic, at least a lil bit maybe, perhaps we should make a ‘Is it today?’ Thread. Everyday someone could ask if that day will be the release day and everyday until release day Susie or any WS official can reply ‘Nope, not today!’. I don’t know, just a thought until this announcement thing is fixed.

I think a final decision is frequently not made until late in the day Pacific so it would probably lead to the same challenges as any other forum posting.

New items announcements are often made on the forum after the item goes in – it’s been a long time since things were announced in advance on the forum. 🙂

What would folks think about having an announcement go up in advance on Facebook? You can access the Facebook page even if you aren’t registered to Facebook and their servers can handle the extra load better than Windstone’s page! 🙂

    Congrats all!

Can we see the videos associated with the winners? I don’t see the voting thread up anymore.

The thread is still up – the winners were entry 1 (first place), entry 10 (second place) and entry 5 (third place).

I can understand the arguments against glue traps, but I use them. I don’t trust that mice I just release won’t come back – they are left alone out side, but once they are inside, unfortunately they will be exterminated.

I would prefer, in an ideal world, to use the kill immediately traps as they are more humane, but when you have small children/pets who frequent some of the same areas as the mice, the glue traps are preferable (for me). I would rather run warm water to detach a dog or child than risk them being injured.

My kids and dogs are more important to me than mice – so making sure they don’t suffer triumphs over my desire to be merciful to the mice, alas.

I do, however, generally catch and release spiders – after all, they eat bugs and don’t poop on my dishes. 🙂

That’s true. Yeah I guess I didn’t absorb the different options of how to take the video. Would it be possible to allow us to do more votes for other videos like Amstaff mentioned or are these always limited to one vote per person?

They will continue to be limited to one per person – otherwise we’d end up with a lot of ties. 🙂

I loved seeing all the videos! I was confused though as I thought the videos were supposed to be you holding the camera yourself and filming the box opening and not showing your face or name to be more anonymous? So I guess we all had different ideas about that otherwise I would have tried to make mine more creative or entertaining.

There was notation in the rules you could have someone else film for you if you wanted them to – you just had to submit a form from them giving you the right to submit the footage. From the rules:

“- Film yourself/have a friend film you opening the box … (if someone else films you OR if you have people other than you in the video, you’ll need them to sign a permission form that you submit with your entry – it can be signed after the video is captured- I can get you the form, just let me know if you need it)”

Also, in a question on the previous thread we said you could say your name/show yourself on screen – the anonymity of submissions came in after quest 1 as some participants felt they might not be getting votes due to not being as popular as others.

For this quest, it was up to the participants if they felt like giving that information in the video, though we do ask you to not post on the forum things like, “Entry 3 was mine! Vote for me!” Not all members know the real names/faces of people in the videos (though some do). It was totally up to you guys how to approach. 🙂

in reply to: Quest 18 – Box Opening Quest – Entries open until 12/31 #924404

I hit a small snag today – The password for the YouTube account has changed since I last used it. These may go up a little late while I wait to see who can help me get in! 🙂

Will there ever be a baby dragon (little fledgie) in old green? I would love to have one

At present, there is no old green paint and I don’t think they’ve been able to find a good way to mix the greens they have to match. So, no old green babies at present, but maybe someday if they can get a paint match! 🙂

Didn’t I do a really small batch of old green fledgies once?
We have plenty of the light green paint left, but only a cup or two of the dark color. I may as well use it up on something though, since the liquid paint doesn’t have an unlimited shelf life.

You did fledgies in a limited batch, but baby dragons haven’t been done. A batch of those would be cute 🙂

in reply to: Asking advice on a transaction #924206

I had a package that was half of a trade to me get lost WITH insurance AND signature required. The card fell off after it was posted and the post office would not honor the claim despite the fact the shipper paid for both tracking and insurance because at some point they had a photo of the package without a signature card so it ‘wasn’t ever attached’.

The package was lost for 6 months or so I think. It finally showed up looking like it had gone through hell. Since the trade had long since been cancelled/refunded, I notified my trade partner and paid her for the item instead.

So… hope is not lost, it could still show up!

    Also, USPS sucks.

The ONE thing I wish someone had told me when my son was new (I didn’t have any experience with babies):

Wait until they stop grunting to change their diapers.

in reply to: Antiquing Question! #924040

Yes, you really can’t antique bare gypsum, it will just absorb the antiquing medium unfortunately. Gypsum is thirsty stuff!

Even on painted pieces, I usually clear coat before I antique – it makes it much easier to rub the excess antiquing medium off the piece without discoloring the places I don’t want antiqued. Then just clear coat again once the antiquing is good. 🙂

Copyright is a funny thing. If you don’t enforce it consistently, you can end up unable to enforce it later on under different circumstances. I think we’ve all seen the knocks offs that show up on ebay and the like – unfortunately, in order to be protected against those, Windstone also has to prevent individual collectors from altering sculpts if they know about it.

I know it sucks and, honestly, Melody and John probably don’t have a _personal_ issue with repaints or resculpts. But legally, it’s just the stance the company has to take.

in reply to: Cleaning gold horns on the dragons help #923978

I had good luck fixing a kirin horn that was actually missing the gold in places by using a gold paint pen and then clear coating it. Susie will send you a mostly used gold pen if you ask for one. 🙂

As a reminder for the last minute entrants (posted originally a couple of days ago):

6.) And finally – due to my limited desktop access, I’m only sending out confirmations every couple of days. Please be patient. I will send out a final batch on 1/1 (since all the entries are due then) and if there is a problem, you will be allowed to fix it as long as you do so within a day or two.

We have family in town for the holidays and I volunteer for quests (it’s not an actual job) so unfortunately I am not always online. Please be patient! You will get confirmations and anything else you need tomorrow. No need for multiple emails/PMs tonight. 🙂

    Happy New Year!

in reply to: I am just in shock and tears. #923611

I know drag0nfeathers fixed a ton of them and they looked great when she was done. She’s absolutely brilliant with repairs and matching paint.
