I was wondering if you guys have ever considered casting horns in something other than pewter? Other materials might be less fussy and easier to work with. If it is an issue of the gold plating sticking to other materials I know I personally don’t mind the gold being paint or leaf instead of actual gold. I would adore seeing clear horns made of that stuff they encase things in (crystal horns!) Supposedly it’s very easy to work with. You could probably even mix coloring agents in the stuff itself and not have to paint or plate.

Fact Fox, I think she’s a Savannah cat. Very pretty! Congrats!

I’m really enjoying all of these unis! 😀

I hadn’t even thought of that! I assumed all of the cat designs were of the more commonly recognized cats so it didn’t occur to me that it might be something else!

I just got mine! She’s a cheetah with yellow eyes and citrine gems named sonata. Posting from my phone so the pictures aren’t the best.

I don’t post on the forum much but I feel like adding my two cents to this conversation as I feel that it is an important one we need to have. Most of us love the grab bags. However, the price is becoming too high of a hurdle for many of us. Ms. Melody and Windstone in general deserves to make money on their work, and has the right to dictate whatever price they feel they must in order to do so. These are facts. However, we are a creative community. We should be able to find a solution (or solutions) that will satisfy both fans and art creators. I think the Kickstarter idea is genius, but it still does not address the issue of grab bags taking up Ms. Melody’s time. I know many people like grab bags because they are by Ms. Melody, but we are voracious for them, and she only has so much time. Plus, we are shooting ourselves in the foot by asking her to do grab bags rather than work on new sculpts or other neat things. For me personally, the random chance and the possibility of community trading (though I’ve yet to ever trade) are heavy driving factors in buying grab bags. Beauty is a factor in how much I’m willing to pay for that random chance (thus I have one on the way). So, how could the price be reduced? One possibility I have heard is getting someone else to do grab bags. I wanted to expand on this. What if, instead of them being done by “a Windstone artist,” Windstone set some talented but not very well-known painter to painting a batch? They would probably accept less pay than a known artist, Ms. Melody would have more time, and the artist could get name recognition and show the range they are capable of. It could be like a young artist spotlight. Think of how wonderful P.S. and Jordan’s pieces are. Jennifer Miller, though probably more well-known, created one of the most expensive Windstones ever sold. They would be pretty, they would be cheaper, and they would give us grab bags while Ms. Melody worked on other stuff. Just a thought I had.

I also would love them to have names. The name can change your entire perception of them and gives them a unique personality. If she has trouble coming up with names we could start a suggestion thread. I for one have lots of ideas!

The swap I sent to Riversgrace is a keeper. He is based on the natural colors around where I live. I am out of town so I can’t post any photos.

I got mine! I love him! Thank you Dragonmedley! I am a big fan of Egyptian-themed stuff. Definitely not too much gold! I don’t think the picture is resizing right…

I have been running around like crazy and haven’t had a chance to post my uni so here he is! He is not one of my top picks so I might end up trading him, I just haven’t ever traded so I am a bit nervous about trying.

I agree that windstone should do what they need to stay afloat but if prices rise much more I’ll have to stop buying. I’ve already had to limit myself to just grab bags and PYOs because they are the things I’m least willing to quit buying. As it is, I can justify the price. If it goes up to 200 for a baby uni there’s no way. That’s as much as a weekend vacation to a major city. So I am definitely against a price raise.

Auctioning a few to raise needed money would be ok and probably a smart business decision. Auctioning picks I think sends a bad message. It suggests that those with deep pockets deserve special treatment in something that has long been billed as a treat for those of us who don’t have much.

As far as the damaged pieces go, I know I’d love to have one! It would actually mean more to me if it were imperfect. After all, life is seldom perfect. There’s a great brony video on YouTube that really illustrates imperfection as perfection (heck, there are several), but yes I would love to see them sold rather than go to waste.

I have to say I’m not fond of the idea. If this had been implemented back when the youngs were released there is no way I would have gotten Juggernaut, and now he is the pride of my small collection. I love him more than almost any other windstone but there is no way I could have paid any more for him. I’m hoping to get one from this batch, and there are many I like, but having it be picked over by those with deeper pockets (who can afford the aftermarket prices) before they are released to everyone seems a tad unfair. If you guys really think this will get you the money you need then I guess it’s ok. I’d rather see you guys do well and produce more, I just don’t like the precedent it sets.

These tips are really helpful! I have gotten several Windstones through Craigslist that are horribly dirty. I was curious: I knew about the bleeding reds, but what about rainbows? Does their red bleed? Are there any special cleaning details about them that I should be aware of? My last Craigslist set had a rainbow emp in it and he is nasty but I have been wary to risk damaging him.

Sorry, I’ve been off the Internet for quite a while due to school and family stuff. He arrived safe and sound. I have to say he is absolutely adorable! I’d been admiring the blue foos that people were making and then he arrived! I love him! I love his name as well! Here are a couple photos (alas, we are lacking in sunlight here). Hopefully the photos will show up right…
