We didn’t feel anything over here, an hour north of Sacramento. It’s entirely possible that all the roosters went off at once; they’ve been on a hair trigger lately. But, sadly, if they did, we slept right through that as well! Poor boys; you crow so much, nobody takes you seriously any more …. :p

(not that I should be buying anything just this moment, with a newly-arrived OW lounging on the bookcase . . . .) 😉

Apoxie Sculpt is produced by Aves Studio (www.avesstudio.com) and they do on-line orders. I’m an amateur-level repairer but have gotten good results with the stuff. I like the Apoxie Clay best for duplicating the surface texture of Windstones, although I’ve also used Apoxie Sculpt. Both of these are two-part compounds. They’re pretty easy to work with; depending on your humidity level, you might want to mix it up and then leave it for 10-30 minutes to stiffen up before you work with it, so it’s less sticky. Where I live it’s very dry, so I can start with it right away. You pack it down into the cracks first, and let it set up partway, and then texture the surface. Apoxie Clay takes paint VERY Well (Sculpt wants a basecoat first). You can also do the repair in stages, because either Clay or Sculpt sticks well to a prior layer of Clay or Sculpt.
I haven’t used Fimo for repairs. So long as it doesn’t shrink when it dries, or discolor the existing paint, then it may work just fine.
Best of luck! 🙂
Oh, ouch. 🙁 That’s pretty bad. I’m really sorry that that happened; it seems like some sellers just don’t quite understand how something so heavy can also be fragile. I’ve had even experienced sellers with good feedback make that mistake.
FWIW, it is possible to resculpt the missing pieces, and some of the skilled repair artists on the Forum can make him look good as new. But I agree, the seller really miscalculated, and it would be honest for them to give you a partial refund. You paid for an intact Windstone, and got a broken one; it’s fair that the seller receive the worth of a broken Windstone out of this deal, but not the full price, seems to me.
Best of luck!
Yes, there was an e-mail, but you had to opt in on the GB colts notification like Sikek said. I am so glad these posted when they did! Often I don’t get home until after things list, and that can be disappointing if it’s a small batch. It was nice to actually be home when they hit the Store.
I really don’t know where to start with favorites, but that brown with the blue dappling and the dragon on his back (Ela_Hara’s third favorite) is a stunner and so is the one to his right, and I really like the one in the bottom right corner of that collage too. And the one in the front row, bottom leftmost, of the Store pic is really remarkable: I love the use of the blues and grays on him. And I really like the leftmost one in the third row, and the middle one in the second row, and the far right one in the first row, and the guy on the far right in the back row . . . . Man, this is as bad as picking through a tray of dichroic glass at a craft fair: how do you pick a favorite when there’s so much pretty to choose from! :p
I’m a big fan of Golden as well, and tend to use these for my base coating and to develop colors on the PYO. I also use some metallics, generally the DecoArt line from Michaels, but also the Lumiere line by Jacquard. I do a lot of layering, with the result that PYOs take a long time, but the results are often rewarding. 🙂 Metallics over a darker base coat (not necessarily black) add depth to the underlying color, but a transparent color glaze over the top really brings it to life.
Have fun, that’s the important thing!
Well, was everyone who wanted an Old Warrior able to get one?
Heck no. 🙁
I sure hope for more! This was the one Blue Morpho dragon I’d been holding out for. I like the color on so many sculpts, but one can’t buy everything . . . the OW has always been my favorite, so that was going to be the one. I’ve been heading to the computer the minute I get home for weeks. But I didn’t even get a chance at this batch. 🙁
Please let there be more.
June 21, 2014 at 1:54 am in reply to: Report Windstone Fakes/Knock offs/Infringment Pls read first #914483I figure it for a recast too. It’s got a slightly squashed look to it, and oh dear those eyes …. But the thing that bugs me the most is the way it’s painted so much like an Old Peacock. That’s particularly bad manners from whoever made it. 😐 I do hope the seller is truly not aware it’s a fake.
Either way, it’s been reported.June 20, 2014 at 3:39 am in reply to: Report Windstone Fakes/Knock offs/Infringment Pls read first #914421Has anyone seen this little horror yet? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Windstone-Baby-Dragon-Purple-Bronze-1988-/131220025409?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e8d52b041#ht_72wt_1166
The shape of the sculpt’s eye sockets affect how the dichroic eyes look. Dichroics look AMAZING on the Secret Keeper and the Old Warrior with their deeper eye sockets, but are a little too reflective in the Lap Dragon. It looks as if the Fledgie is somewhere between the two. Myself, I love the way the dichroic eyes catch low light and gleam out at you. My SK has made me jump more than once when I walk by the cabinet at night, and all I can see is a glowing crescent of eye in the shadows. SO COOL!
