I’m using Schmincke pastels, which are kind of expensive but SUPER saturated and nice, I only need one or two coats to get great color. And I use a base coat of Testor’s dullcote which gives a great surface to pastel over. (And also keeps the pastels from staining the resin, meaning I could remove it and do a different paint job someday if I felt like it.) I also spray on a layer of dullcote in between layers of pastel, and one over the top once I’m finished. So there’s four or five layers of the stuff at least on each of these.

hmm..i like to experiment alot..chalk or oils?

whats dullcote? is it some sort of spray?

How do you do them in pastel? I have trouble getting pastel to stick to smooth surfaces somtimes. What kind of pastels are you using?

in reply to: Question about Using Inks/Stains #904568

Do folks usually do a base coat on gypsum? I always just paint the colors on… 🙂

Also, I have a side question. What does everyone think is a good way to showcase your most recent work? The PYO gallery doesn’t seem the most conducive way even though it’s the most convenient.

I’ve seen that many users will make a ” ____’s PYO Thread” under the pyo forum. That is what I do, since I haven’t been able to upload to the gallery. Then, when you add a new piece, Just edit the title of the original post to say something like “Prezaurian’s PYO Thread **New 10/12/13” for example.

On another note..I should add some more stain photos…

and…Does anyone think I should start a thread that explains some basics on ink and or ink/pastel stains, like tips, what to do, what not to do..etc? We have a general one for paint, and one for brands, but neither really point in that direction.

For your own safty, I would recommend pepper spray, and keep a can of hornet spray by your bed. It sprays around ten to twenty feet, and would have the same affect.

I hope everything gets much better. Careful, cause the world is a scary place. I’ll be praying for you guys!

This guy originally had orange eyes. He looks better with orange. But the eyes I were sent didn’t fit the eye sockets. They were bulbous and bigger than other WS eyes. Is there someone new working in the eye department? I hope that that doesn’t happen again.

Wow thats funny, I have a pair of blue and a pair of orange on my table that are exactly like that.
