That hippo has great color contrast and detail. It reminds me of a nudibranch! Love it, especially the body patterning!

There’s a lot of good discussion that has happened here about the Kickstarter.

As I understand it, yes, the whole point of the KS was the graphic novel + a way of introducing new people to Melody’s work. But most of Melody’s work IS her figurines. And while the poads may have taken over, they’re also the only reason Melody’s Kickstarter hit that 30k goal so quickly; if it were JUST the graphic novels being sold, it would have taken a lot longer for that funding to be reached, if at all.

So far I think that Melody and co have done an amazing job all around. People that are new to the Windstone scene aren’t being fooled by the Kickstarter; they’re still getting grab bags at random, they can still request color options, they can still request preferred pieces. It is true that for some people it seems misleading or confusing or both. But beyond that Melody and her team always, ALWAYS go above and beyond for customer satisfaction–they love to make both new and old customers happy. I can only bow deeply in appreciation and admiration; as a life-long lover of her works, the chance to own a once-in-a-lifetime special item AND have a say in it is phenomenal. Like others, I’ve been burnt out on the normal grab bag scene. It gets expensive very quickly if you’re unlucky, even if you manage to work out trades; worst case scenario you’re stuck with something you MIGHT be able to sell for store price later. I get that it’s the name of the game, but that doesn’t change the fact that the odds can really suck sometimes.

Overall, I think the main problems from experiencing the livestream is that they 1) needed a third person + 2) needed to have a focus. 1) A third person to specifically man the chat, whether in-person or relaying information through skype, etc. to take down the order in which requests to see things were made. Literally, all that person would do is stare at lines of chat. Not help search for pieces or anything like that, just makes a list of desired preview peeks. A lot of things had to be repeated and people still fell through the cracks, for all that other people in the chat were helping them repeat stuff. And 2) a focus. While we were initially with the bean/mini poads, we literally wound up jumping all over the place which caused a ton of delays and confusion. There’s two easy ways to fix this: either only show one size of poad/figurine type per livestream, or pick a size and don’t deviate until the wheel has gone fully around 2-3 times for that type. The wheel would have to spin a little slower though and compensate for chat lag from people watching in mobile vs computers.

        That’s my two bits.

I always love looking at that piece. You really did a fantastic job with putting graphic textures on a smooth surface, giving them depth to look lifelike. And Diablo is a great reference. Too bad Malthael doesn’t really have much in terms of color variants to make as awesome of a dragon as Diablo does. >_>

I have a question, dumb I am sure but I didn’t see a place to add the mini Poad so how do I add one now?

              THANK Y’ALL,Now,next question,adding a mini Poad??

You could/should change your pledge to the one that features the mini poad. At the top of the page “Manage My Pledge” and select the proper tier. That should be the easiest way.

If you already have that tier and want a second mini poad, still select “Manage My Pledge”. Find the tier that you picked, and change the dollar amount in the box. I believe the mini poads are an additional $35, so add that to your previous total. In a month when the KS ends, you simply put in the comment box that you paid an extra $35 for a second mini poad.

EDIT: I missed a step. After you hit “Manage My Pledge”, find the box under your pledge and click “Change My Pledge” which THEN brings up the list of tiers where you can alter the dollar value for your tier or pick a new tier. Sorry!

I was Backer #8 and one of the FIRST to pledge Tier #9 and get one of the ‘Special’ Adult Poads painted with the Reptanglian foliage! Did you see Melody?!?!?!?!? You are ALREADY OVER Half Way to your Goal and it’s been less than 30 minutes! I bet you get your Kickstarter funded at 1000 % +++

Lol. I was Backer #9.  Sat at my computer most of the morning, even knowing it was going to go up close to noon my time.  And of course when I went downstairs to take pills for my migraine my phone was all BRRRRRRRT email alert (I’m pretty sure there was a slight processing delay too) and I had to FLY up the stairs to my computer. XD

It’s also really easy to hit a 30k goal when people are throwing down $500 a pop. =P

                @Bodine
:  As people have already said, nothing is charged unless the project hits 100% funded. It is much better to back EARLY rather than later. You can always change your pledge without losing your “spot in line” of pledges so to speak, and even if you don’t have the money now there’s a good chance you could have it in a month’s time. Especially with your painter’s skills. 🙂

Today’s the day! Looking ahead to next time for “Rue Day” – all the Poads in this Kickstarter are fancy. Would it be good to have Poads painted like Podge as a reward option? This occurred to me this morning, way too late for this go-round, but I was curious what opinions are.

Absolutely, yes. Even better if they’d been the mini poads to be life-size to a Garlen.

I really love the rich blue-green jewel tones and the fine detail work on the fins and mane.  Very pretty!

After many delays, including the post office sending the package to the wrong distribution center in my state, my piece painted by Bipolarbear finally arrived.  I tossed out a few ideas and the one he went with was an aurora borealis griffin.  He’s so pretty, thank you!  I love his wing tip and ear tuft color points, as well as his multi-colored spots.

My pics aren’t great since I ran outside between rainstorms.  The first picture is probably closest to his true color, but he’s still a little bit of a darker blue-black than it shows.

I should do this. I would like to have matching cats myself!-and this makes me think that I should do a normal wingless cat pyo.

A normal cat pyo would be interesting, though I think a few people are rabidly waiting for a short-haired winged cat pyo.  I’d love to see a “young” pegasus pyo (since the pegasus family is missing the teenager that the unicorns have).

I  squeak hard for LP of both Pastel Rainbow and Black Pastel pegasi.  Gina did an amazing job with how soft the Pastel Rainbow looked on the pegs. I was avidly hoping for the Black Pastel pegasi set to be done too; I think it’s the only sculpt that would really do the colors justice (but that’s my opinion…I’m a sucker for the seafoam green eyes we saw on the Black Pastel dragons though I wasn’t particularly captivated by the dragons themselves).

Squeaking for the quillin (more lion-like kirin as opposed to deer-like?) to be finished sooner rather than later.

And a long hard squeak for Gina’s “oil spot” color to be a LP run.  I’ve always loved the color blends on these pieces and was saddened to not be able to snag one of them at the time.  Oil Spot:

Oh, and Hannah, I love that fox!  Leigha did a great job!

There’s been a lot of good commentary on this.  I definitely agree with Hannah in that if I were new and a first-time participant, I’d be more than a little depressed by not knowing what was going on.

I don’t think the swap needs to be as complicated as having multiple organizers.  I think having an unbiased organizer–a veteran member who has free time and won’t be participating–is ideal though it’s not foolproof by any means.  But it’s just as good having a trusted member do it as well.

As Bodine said, if an organizer pulls Melody for themselves I think they should be able to keep it as such given that it’s not their first time hosting and that it’s a one-time thing (to keep it fair). Truthfully I was initially not going to participate because of money being tight but then Melody threw her name into the pot so I took a gamble.  We have tons of talented painters on the forum so I’m in no way dismissing their abilities but Melody painting something “just for me” would make it that much more special.  And I’m sure everyone feels similarly in that regard.

As for communication there did need to be more of it this time around.  I don’t think that a nearly-finished or finished picture needs to be required as long as the communication is spot on.  And when it comes to who painted for who, I personally prefer to not know who’s painting for me until I open the box; I like the surprise of it!

I don’t know if my painter has sent my piece out yet but I do know that I was going to be getting it late; throw in winter weather and holiday shopping and it may be awhile yet before mine gets here.

Technically it’s for my mom, as a belated Xmas gift, since she lost her horse Flash in November.  Bodine is doing a fantastic job, as always.

I think I went cross-eyed trying to keep that maple leaf so clean and sharp. I’m glad it shows! Also, I’m in love with the alexandrite dragon you painted!

That wolf wound up going through a few permutations before I fully settled on a finite concept and was happy with the end results. Thanks for the comment! 🙂

You did a fabulous job on that unicorn. Reminds me of a superhero!

I already know I’m going to be receiving mine later, probably next week sometime.

As for the rest of the talk… try to have a little patience and faith people. Mail is going to be slow from xmas and injuries. Also, please remember 96307 was the first and only person to come forward when the normal swap organizer failed to do so as per usual. So yes, it was a bit disorganized…spontaneous, if you will.

I don’t know if she’d be happy with me saying this much but she’s had a lot of problems the past few months too. Aside from a car accident that totalled her car and was not her fault (the other driver wasn’t insured and hers wouldn’t cover the damages/replacement), her health insurance isn’t covering her anti-seizure meds anymore. So…she had a lot to worry about, and I imagine taking a photo of her swap piece is likely the least of her concerns. Granted, everyone has problems. Some worse than others. That’s why we empathise and tolerate complications. I too have my own issues I’m dealing with. Deep breaths people.

Are there things to be suspicious about? Sure. But is it really worth the energy to get upset, annoyed, it frustrated about it?

That all said, I hope everyone had a safe and happy Christmas.

@drag0nfeathers – Wow! That kitsune you painted is gorgeous! Absolutely stunning! I am in love with those lavendar colors.

@Ela Hara – The color palette you used on Hannibal is so pretty!

@t1ger06 – I am loving the grey blends on the foo. What brand is the opal paint you used? And are those special eyes or is the lighting just confusing me?

I can’t wait to see more. My recipient should have either gotten hers today or tomorrow, unless mail is being “slow”. So much excitement!
