I said “Something else” because I’m really not wild about any of them.
Artistically, I like the Copper Mauve, but personally it’s not a color I’d collect, so I felt it would be somewhat dishonest to vote for it knowing that I wouldn’t buy it. (Well, okay, maybe I’d buy the Lap in it…)
With Em-Pea covering the blue/green cool spectrum, Black Gold covering the red/gold hot spectrum (and the dark/black), and Gold covering the yellow/brown spectrum, I think we need the next color to be something totally different. No more warm/gold tones, there’s enough of that.
Personally I’d like to see something really lavender/lilac/violet (with touches of blue/other accents)! We don’t have anything really purple out there, since the Pinks are very pale and pastel and pink.
I’d LOVE to see something that combined the Intense Violet of the IVEP colors with the blue-violet of the regular EPs, though not necessarily even as the base color — something paler, more lavender/lilac, would be really neat, too, and kind of a change from the usually bold Windstone colors. (Blue antiquing might look really awesome with purple…)
Just a thought!

October 7, 2007 at 2:29 am in reply to: What Percent Of Your Collection is Retired / LE / LP #622100Actually, 85.7 % of my collection is retired/LP, so I rounded up to 90%. (Especially as the 85.7 was calculated before I bought my White OW.)

Ooooh, will you tell me the “deal” you got on your Emerald OW? (I love him — I got mine a few months after they retired; I saw one in my local WE source; he still had the $179 price tag on him, so I was ecstatic!)
I also love how your Young White looks like a Silver in that lighting!

Oh? Well, you can just send those Laps and Ki-rins my way, if you please!
The Lap is quite likely my favorite sculpt. (And I had to give up my ki-rin collecting plans because they were retired, and prices became ridiculous! $80+ for the baby!? Not from my wallet, unfortunately.)

I collect… representatives? I’m sort of aiming for a cross-section of variety and color, I guess. I want to a complete “set” in a specific color, for example:
I have the (nearly) entire family of Western dragons in White;
the entire family of Orientals in Peacock;
The Old Warrior in Emerald (because when I bought him he wasn’t available in white, which sort of made him a category of his own; plus, I saw him in the store and fell in love with the color);
The (stone-finish) dragon bookends;
The male Ki-Rin (I wanted the whole family, but only managed one before they retired, and now the prices mean it’s out of the question);
and, miscellaneously, the Gothic unicorn (I wanted something to put rings on) and the Frog Prince (adorable).
I don’t have any Griffins yet, aside from PYOs, but I want the entire family in Tan, and maybe in Wolf as well (can’t have too many griffins).
As far as PYOs go, I painted my first griffin to match my White dragons, while the second is based on a real bird of prey, and the third is a total fantasy color. I’ll probably do much the same with dragons — one to match my Whites, and the rest as varied as possible, since I like setting myself painting challenges. 🙂
So my collection has Western dragons, Orientals, Kirins, unicorns, and frogs; and it has peacocks, emeralds, and whites.
…Melody needs to come out with some new dragons, so I have something to get in Rainbow, Ruby, Black Gold, and Em-Pea! 🙂

I lost the BEV Warrior on eBay (wow, I hope that buyer will stay away from the next one so I have a chance!), so to console myself 🙂 I bought, at long last, the White Warrior!
This is the last White I “need” to complete my collection (well, “complete” my collection — there are a few pieces I don’t have just because I’m not interested in them), so am SO. EXCITED!
WHITE OLD WARRIOR!! COME TO MAMMA!

Hee hee! Actually, only one-seventh of my collection (excluding PYO pieces) isn’t retired! 🙂
Of course, I only have fourteen pieces, so that’s not quite as impressive as it sounds.

Awesome!
I’m expecting my own White (finally!!) any day now, so I know *exactly* how you feel! 🙂 So glad he made it safely!

That was what I was wondering — the Ebay username wasn’t familiar, but then I hardly know everyone in the forum, and obviously not everyone’s Ebay name is the same/close to their Forum name.
I feel a leeeetle bit better about losing now that I know it’s someone who’s overpaid before. Still, why o why must it be this one they beat me to? (10 is my favorite number, so I reaaaalllly wanted to win BVP #10.) Ah, well, maybe I’ll win the next one!
(Except I just bought a White OW, so my funds are a bit depleted… Hmm, bad move on my part.)

I really like the blend of colors and patterns on #15! What a beautiful composition. My vote goes for that one! (But I do like #4 as well — count him as my runner-up.) 🙂

I was outbid on the Black Violet-Peacock Warrior! (I was afraid that would happen; the auction ended while I was at work.)
So, who’s the lucky collector? 🙂

Ah — I didn’t think about customs fees. The only things I’ve ever ordered from overseas were small, and there weren’t any fees involved. I knew there had to be some kind of catch, though, and I did think about insurance costs right after I sent that reply.
Griffiness wrote:Thats what i ahve been doing but then i have to pay about £30 for a large Windstone to be posted and then dependng on what its worth about £40 for a $300 Dragon on customs charges and then there is the risk it will get broken or lost etc etc. So it still works out expensive.
I know how you feel! I went through four years of university with no job, so yeah. And how I’m back in school again, with just a part-time job and maybe 20-25 hours a week, so I’ve spent several nights lately crying and shouting about not being able to afford the Black Violet-Pea Warriors up on Ebay. WHY? WHY NOW WHEN I HAVE NO MONEY?
I have pretty much decided, though, that if I don’t win one I will use what I’ve saved to buy the White Warrior instead, as a consolation prize. (Thank heaven I bought most of my big WEs before I went to college!)
Good luck at uni! And good luck with the collection, too. At least the nice thing about collections is they’re always there to come back to when you do have the funds! 🙂

I… am kind of a Lackey fan.
I adored her Valdemar novels when I was thirteen, but a year or so ago (I’m 25 now) I re-read it and, well, let’s just say the used bookstore got a big pile of books. 🙂 I kept the Herald-Mage trilogy (Vanyel is so emo it’s hilarious), the Gryphon trilogy, The Oath trilogy, and two individual books (Winds of Fury and By the Sword), and let all the rest go. They’re the only ones I can still enjoy reading, though in some cases the reason for that enjoyment has changed.
I frankly can’t stand her newer Valdemar books. They read like they’re intended for sixth graders, and I’m bleedin’ well tired of being hit over the head with the SAME. BLOODY. MORAL. every time I pick up a new book.
On the other hand, I love some of her other novels very much, still. Children of the Night, Bedlam’s Bard, This Scepter’d Isle, the SERRAted Edge books (except for one of them)… these are all still on my shelves and I reread them frequently.
So I’m half a Lackey fan — not a Valdemar fan, but still a fan of many other Lackey series. 🙂

Was the author Mary Brown? I haven’t read all her books, but I do remember that one of the two I read involved a ki-rin leading the main character(s) in their quest.
Maybe try her name on Amazon.com or Google for her publisher?

Oh! A couple things you should *definitely* bring are the Windstone website address and the relevant phone number! Possibly the relevant email address and/or a link to the “Dealer Requirements” page. Come prepared, and don’t give them any excuse to say, “oh, that’s nice, I’ll certainly go look that up sometime.” Don’t let ’em get away! 🙂
You might also bring a mental wishlist that you could subtly or not-so-subtly bring up: i.e. a hint that they’d definitely win you as a customer, and a “guaranteed” sale if they do become a dealer.
