Next up, the Gold Koi Keeper!
Guys, I think you should know that there was a casting date penciled on the bottom of this piece – and that date was October 3rd, 2012. That’s how long this poor dragon has been sitting around half-finished! Long enough for his eyes to go missing, though thank goodness I still had his gem. Suzie very kindly sent me more eyes when I mailed back some random extras I found. 😛
His eye sockets are extremely deep; his eyes are completely below the level of the socket even at their thickest point, which gives him a grumpy look. Wonder if this is something that newer Keepers also struggle with, or if perhaps it was corrected at some point?

drag0nfeathers: If I got your luck – twins! – I’d be over the moon. I like to make “families”, not quite matchy-matchy but “related”, and a pair that actually looks like nestmate-twins? Instant headcanon of mischevious kids deliberately posing to maximize the cute and soften the adults from frowning on their latest shenanigans.
Setsunawolf – your Orientals are really striking together! You have a Sun, a Moon, and a Sea.
It’s so much fun seeing what everyone is getting, and how the colors look under different lighting, and all the details that Melody puts into her work. I haven’t seen a single one I don’t like, they’re all amazing.
Nightcrow – I think I’ll wait another week or so before I decide if I’m willing to trade my dark teal. There are a few I like better in both the Cool and Wild batches, and some of them are even on the trade lists, but honestly? I was happy when I opened the box, and that means a lot right now. I can sympathize with anyone having open-the-box blues, because on the GB resting loaf pebble dragons, I calculated I had a 75% chance of getting one I’d adore and got super excited, and – nope. That was my first GB, and I learned that the “can I get a trade?” game only causes me stress. I only made a grab this time because there was only *one* Cool Ori that I didn’t like, and I spent the entire week staring at it and bracing myself to see it when I opened my box. XP
No worries! I do like mine enough to keep him if it comes to that, and I totally understand the stress of trading (happened to me with the Pebble Dragons, too!) Besides, a couple of other people have tentatively indicated an interest, so I’m in the ‘wait and see’ phase. Maybe it’ll grow on me so much I won’t even want to trade, who knows? 🙂 Or the last of my top picks may turn up in the thread. I just wanted to toss my name out there just in case, not to apply pressure.
Still hope you post lots of pictures, though! 😀 Getting to see all the intricate details of Melody’s pieces is definitely the best part of all the show-off threads!

And I see I’m not the only one keeping track of which ones have arrived! My version just has the forum name of who received which, but using page numbers makes a lot of sense. Numbers are definitely a lot shorter and easier to fit in some of the small gaps! 😀

That one was one of my faves in the class photo, but now that I’ve seen your much larger pictures I think it’s even more beautiful. Such subtle detail, and I love the eye color!

He’s really beautiful, and if I’m stuck with him I won’t mind too much; but I’m hoping to trade him for one of the Cool Orientals with color on their chest, which would blend better with my Oriental family and my decor. (Trade ad now up in the Classifieds!)

I absolutely love the color and the metallic tan/gold eyes, but he has more white than I was hoping for.
The pictures wash out the color; it’s a much more vivid teal than in the pics! The class photo is more representative.

Syn, it took me a minute to find yours in the class photos; he’s much less pastel in your home than he looks in his official portrait! It’s so cool how the colors change with lighting and background.
I don’t get mine till Thursday, and I may expire from frustration first!

The colorful ones with hair manes and tails aren’t Breyers; they’re “Fashion Star Fillies,” from the 80s! I have a bunch of them, and recognized them at once. 🙂

Lilac Point Kitty Griffin!
I love genetics and have a lot of accumulated knowledge about animal color inheritance. This is my fourth colorpoint Kitty Griffin, representing the ‘Lilac Point’ color. Lilac point is the dilute form of Chocolate point (Chocolate gene plus dilution gene), producing a light-toned, warm gray color on the points.
I apologize for the photo quality; my camera does not like Lilac point. I did three separate photoshoots in diffent lighting situations, and every single one looked good on the camera screen but was blurry or overexposed when uploaded to the computer!
These were taken indoors in indirect light, and they show the shading well but the color is odd in some of them:

I feel boring. Everyone’s picking flashy ones, while I like the more plain ones. For the wild ones, I feel like I would need to see closer pictures from each side. I put in for a koi because they have the most white… except for the ones that are really black. Odds are against me in any batch. LOL.
Well, I’m in the “boring” zone with you, I guess! The only Koi ones I liked were the black/white/silver ones, and my faves from the other batches are also a little plainer, I think? Even the rainbowy ones that caught my eye were heavier on the green and blue than the “all the colors at once” end of the scale.
I’d actually prefer fewer with white/more with less white on them. My top faves are those without a white chest, especially in the Cool batch. I really hope I get one of my top-3 picks! Then if you get one of your faves we can start a “Boring Dragon” Fan Club. 😀

I like them all I have a mixed menagerie that would drive some of you batty.I do however,wish to have the complete set of browns,never gonna happen buuuut,because I love the coloring,natural look to the dragons,and they were the original start to all we have now in our wonderful fantasy worlds from Ms.Melody
I do love the Browns and Greens for their history! That’s a good point. I have an Old Brown mother and male (one of them’s one of the Very First Windstones, without felt!) and an Old Green male whom I’d really like to find a mate for someday. If anyone spots an Old Green mother without felt on Ebay for a reasonable price, PM me! 😀 The historical meaning of them makes them special in my collection even though brown and green aren’t colors I would want more of.

It depends on the color. I only have one ruby, one emerald and one gold – I love these colors on specific sculpts only. Not all sculpts wear the colors the same way to me, so I just go with that!
That’s very true! Some sculpts just look better in a certain color than others.
I prefer mostly-solid colors on Laps, but have a couple of more wildly-colored OWs because the sculpt can carry them off so well. (Which reminds me, I need to get new pics of the OW Conga; I added one a while ago!) Part of it’s in the display, too, I think – the Laps I often display with each other, and a gaudy one would overpower the others. OWs I tend to display singly, so a crazy color on an OW doesn’t have competition. 🙂
