As others have said – this is a thing Ebay tends to push on sellers, even when a lot of them don’t want it (so a lot of them will put it up, but won’t accept an offer less than the starting bid), and it seems to be mostly used as a form of “Buy It Now” where the seller is open to the buyer suggesting a BIN price.

Thank you for all the answers everyone apologies for my confusion. You would think windstone would leave the signature on the bust but put the actual date created and numbered. I found alot of information thanks to the windstone GURU Susie. It’s crazy to know only 5 copper patina hyena gargoyles exists today in the world in 2016 and none others have been created since then. But to this day the website still has it up that they could or could not make more in the future. If only 5 have been made In 2016 and it’s 2022 that has to be a big waiting list. Thank you everyone for the answers.
Susie is awesome! 🙂
And as she notes below, many one-of-a-kind or very limited pieces are numbered, but this is done by hand on the underside of the piece – it would be insanely time-consuming and complicated to create a new mold for every production run!
The Copper Patina color is pretty in itself, but knowing its extra history (as a means of saving things that came out of the mold with flaws) makes it extra cool to me; I love that it isn’t only pretty, but also has a purpose, Maybe one day there will be more Copper Patina gargoyles!

October 18, 2022 at 7:05 pm in reply to: Reports of Fake & Knock-off Windstones and general infringements #1663785I was browsing Etsy today and ran into two sellers with faux Windstones:
“StoneStatues” has at least a fake Male and fake Mother, maybe more.
Mother: Link
Male: Link“BurgessHomeandGarden” has a fake Dragon Gargoyle: Link

Do you have pictures? How deep are the scuffs – just through the top layer of paint? All the way to the gypsum? On a gold area?
Depending on the color of the piece, and the level of damage, it can be pretty simple to match the paint and cover up a scuff.

Here’s my PYO and the original family, for comparison:
Weirdly, both my Baby Kirins have that very orangey tone on their faces, and on the legs, too, for the Standing Baby, but neither of the adults do. There may be adults out there who have it, though, and if you have ones like that there might be other paints that work better for it; I haven’t tried to match it, so I’m not sure how far off in tone it is from the Liquitex Burnt Siena.

I painted my “partial albino” PYO kirin to match the original family in his non-albino areas. It’s been a few years, but I’m pretty sure the main paint I used was Liquitex Concentrated Arist Color Medium Viscosity Acrylic in “Burnt Siena.”
It was my base color for the chestnut parts, and looks very close to the original family! More so than the Standing Baby, actually, who is more orange in color than my older kirins.

Thank you for posting this! I cleared a few things out of my waitlist that I’ve either already obtained, or have discovered an alternative piece I would rather have instead. Looking forward to one day seeing one of those emails with passwords pop up for the rest! 🙂

Yes I seen this on the site already but at the bottom it says ” This is a cast gypsum reproduction of original” so the one on Ebay is stamped Peña 1996 wouldn’t that make it significantly more valuable? Jw because I see these Are $94 and the one on ebay starting bid is $500
The date is carved into the original sculpture just like the eye sockets, texture, etc., and it’s then used to make a mold. That means the date becomes part of the mold just like every other part of the gargoyle; every single gargoyle ever sold will say “1996,” the same way every one will have its feet in the same position, the same shaped beak, etc. The original sculpture lives somewhere at Windstone’s factory (or sometimes in Melody’s house!), and all Windstone figures are copies of that original. You’ll see the ‘reproduction of an original sculpture by Melody Pena’ text on every item’s page, because that’s how they’re all made.

Thank you, Lorie! I don’t know why it wasn’t showing up for me before, but I can see it now. Maybe updating my Firefox helped. 🙂
I’m sad that it’s not back yet, but at least they confirmed that Spooky Swap deadlines are being extended! I’ve got mine all boxed up, but was kicking myself for not making a note of the deadlines anywhere because I knew they were coming up. Whew!
