Mine is going out tomorrow.

To whomever painted for me: It is unlikely to occur, but has in the past. If tracking indicates that the package was delivered “to front desk/mailroom” PLEASE TELL ME. They are suppose to use the parcel lockers, but so far it has happened three times where they just left a package out for anyone to take. One was a windstone, too (and of course, this was the package that was stolen).
If tracking says it was delivered to “parcel locker”, then everything is good.

When delivered to the locker, I get an email. Otherwise I get no notification at all that a package is downstairs.

Plenty of us forum members have one of a kind pieces. Only one ever made. A lot of ebay items also have several made (in example, 5 of the same item painted the same way). Those are (generally, not always) signed and numbered. There really is no reason to number every single item that leaves the store.

When it comes to copper patina, that coloration was made to salvage “bad” or “flawed” castings. If only five have currently been made, that likely means there haven’t been any flawed castings since. Personally I don’t know how these gargoyles were sold (ebay or the store), so I can’t really say anything for sure.

Windstone keeps the disclaimer up that they could at any time paint a piece in a previous color… that way they aren’t “trapped” into discontinuing something they want to paint again. That has, indeed, happened before.

I was a fool and offered to do a couple 60 hour work weeks with 12 hour days. I’m a little behind on mine, but not enough that’ll be an issue. He will still be finished in time 🙂

They are very sharp in that paint job! Hoping for not blue eyes in that case though, red would look good here.

You can see in the photo that they have blue eyes. I too greatly dislike the blue eyes in the black gold color.
I use to own the entire black gold collection (before more sculpts were made). Slowly sold some off… the biggest factor were the blue eyes. I love black colorations (and BG is my favorite from WS) but I couldn’t justify keeping sculptures I didn’t really care for when the eyes bugged me -that much-.

Everyone has to start somewhere 🙂 We were all newbies at one point.

I should say that I have zero interest in this sculpt, so everything I’m saying is about larger piece grab bags in general. I have purchased a grand total of two grab bags (qi-lin), and the whole “not liking it” is exactly why I stay away from GB. But I liked the qi-lin a lot so I jumped in.

When it comes to a high price tag (like Mika said, $600 would likely be a low ball price for this sculpt as a GB imo) GB, people will definitely be inclined to not be happy to pay so much for something they don’t like. And really, I paid twice the price for my koi qi-lin, due to dishonest people, and I can say for certainty that the higher price tag I paid is one of the reasons I’m not happy with getting a piece I don’t like.
Just applying that logic to a piece with an high initial price tag is all.

Honestly, I don’t think a larger piece is suited for a GB for reasons listed by others and myself. I would think just throwing them up on ebay would be a better option.

The more I read about “alternative” ways for getting pieces someone wants, the more I wonder if it doesn’t just sound kinda like commissioning Melody for a personal piece. Kinda defeats the purpose of “grab bag”.

You also run the risk of just not being able to swap it. The latest qi-lin I got… I don’t like him at all. But I’m pretty sure I’m stuck with him. So at that point you have the feeling of “why did I even buy this”.
That aside, I don’t think shipping would be that much of a factor for swapping. If people want something, I’ll pay (I’d gladly pay to ship my qi-lin overseas if it meant I got one I liked). However I can’t imagine the initial price tag for a larger piece… THAT I would think might be too much for grab bag territory. But who knows.

I haven’t participated in a swap in… I can’t even remember how long it’s been. But I think I’ll give it a shot again.

Ah, it seems they don’t allow you to file a claim until at least 15 days have passed? Well you can file it but “it might be rejected”. Hmm. I submitted it anyway. However what kills me is they don’t let you explain anything. They’ll likely look and see that it was labeled a delivered and be done with it.

Hmm maybe it’s different here, but yes, they can deliver signature confirmation packages to the parcel locker with no one to sign for them. I purchase from Amazon Japan all the time, and they ship with signature confirmation standard. I’ve never signed for a package, they just put it in the locker. When you purchase from Japan (or the one Hong Kong place I buy from) and use FedEx express, they also require a signature. The one time they did not leave the package (either there wasn’t an available locker and/or the box was too big), it was sent back to their facility and I had to go sign get it in person (which… ugh. I sold my truck and without a vehicle that was a one way trip of an hour. So that was fun).
In fact the very first time I got a book from Amazon Japan at my current apartment (DHL), I purposefully did not sign for it online cause I just wanted to see what happened. In the locker it went.
This second qi-lin had signature confirmation and went into the locker. And no, the managers won’t sign for packages (that was in the lease agreement, actually).
Now it is entirely possible that they’re undermining what they’re actually suppose to be doing… can’t rule that out. They’re not suppose to leave packages out to steal and yet.

But you’re right, I don’t have anything to lose by just filling out the form. Worst case is nothing happens and I’m where I currently am.

I know Susie said she was going to file a claim, so I’m not sure if I go to file if it would be a double kind of thing. I should give it a go anyway… even though the internet says not to bother because USPS doesn’t ever pay out.

I don’t have facebook and never will. If, and this is a big if, it was delivered to the wrong address, they certainly have my address… It’s on the box (realistically USPS should pick up a package they incorrectly delivered). However, in all my life I have never had a package get lost in the mail or delivered to the wrong address (or, well, stolen either).

What this made me think about is adding signature confirmation on ALL my expensive packages from here on out. The packages can be delivered to the parcel locker without a signature because it’s secure, but they can’t leave the packages out otherwise. I won’t mind paying that $1 for piece of mind.

Here’s my replacement. Honestly not sure how I feel about him. I’m fine to keep him, but if he’s up your alley, lemme know. He is #35 on the class photo. I tend to prefer darker color schemes and schemes that don’t have so much white or gold. Would also be fine to possibly trade for a fantasy qi-lin.

I talked to the “senior” manager. She was very angry. She told me this isn’t the first time package thefts have been reported, and she said she personally has “a beef” with the postal worker lady that delivers the packages here. “I know for a fact that that locker had plenty of space because I personally emptied 24 slots on Saturday morning”. (you have 4 days to pick up your package before it’s taken out and put in the side hallway by the managers office, however I left a couple books in there cause, out of state, and they were left in there till I got back). She said there is NO excuse for packages to ever be left out.
She said she isn’t even sure if the cameras are currently working, because they are switching a lot of electronics and such (and other companies. This building is suppose to have a security guard 24/7 and I haven’t seen one in months). She did say that she will watch the cameras, if they were working, and find out who it was. She said she’s currently “serving 14 day notices” and I’m not sure why she told me that unless it meant “and if the person that stole your package is getting evicted, then we can act” or something. I don’t know.
I mentioned possibly contacting the police, but they would want video for that. She said if it comes to that, they’ll try and figure it out best they can.

And some information, this is a locked building. You cannot get into it without a key fob. So it was someone that lives in this building, not a passer by.

She also tried to say the company is actually responsible for the lost cost. Big companies like amazon, walmart etc, yes! Family owned, I’m not so sure. Besides, Windstone has never done me wrong (or anyone that I’m aware of), and always goes above and beyond, and I would never want to put them out because some asshat stole a package. It’s not their fault.

This is one hell of an expensive birthday gift to myself =__=

Exactly! I actually looked on ebay real quick after all of this… but no qi-lins. If one comes out of Seattle, that would be a possible lead, but still not a pinpoint. I’m surely not the only windstone collector living in Seattle!
Now if I bought a qi-in out of Seattle and the return address was my apartment complex… then…

There’s a camera in the lobby too, but the manager I talked to didn’t sound too enthusiastic about “watching footage to see who took a package”. Apartment managers aren’t really great at doing much except taking your rent payment…

Thankfully Susie added signature confirmation to this next qi-lin. I’m so grateful for y’all 🙏
