I was told by postal workers that I couldn’t insure to Canada, either! They told me that once it leaves the US and passes customs that it’s no longer their responsibility. Guess I know the truth now… geez. Thanks for the info, Ski!

All artists unintentionally paint themselves into their work from time to time.. it’s natural! 🙂

I’ve been bothered by the wing problem before too, in respect to their being able to fly, but using what she does for her sculptures, there’s no WAY Melody could make them much bigger. Plus, even if they’d be more “correct,” I really don’t think they’d be as pretty or graceful or Windstoneish…I see them as dragons who used to fly and evolved back down to living on the ground. Maybe they use their wings in displays now. Show off for each other, get the girl, scare off interlopers…things like that. 😉

I don’t like the sitting spectrals wings…for some reason, raised wings in that pose look a little funky…like raised hackles or something…but I LOVE the wings on the rising spectral. I love the way they’re painted compared to the other dragons’ wings, too.

Seconded! I like the display idea- after all, consider some of nature’s most spectacularly colored animals- they usually have display methods to attract mates/scare off predators, etc. And Windstone dragons have much the same flashy color, so why not? 😉
I love how alert the rising spectral looks too!

So back on topic, I was talking to BF last night about the dragons, he asked what some cost, so I told him and he named them. Mortgage payment, New TV, Car Payment and so forth, some people just dont get it 😉 .

Hah! I tend to sway on this side of the fence too. I like to make sure that all my bills and living expenses come first and that I can pay off my credit each month. Perhaps that’s why I’ve only ever bought myself one Windstone! The rest are gifts and trades, I am very fortunate to have wonderful friends like Vantid and my fiance that get me nice things ocassionally! 🙂 Perhaps someday I will be rich (I don’t care if I’m famous ) and I can afford some of the wonderful art I love!

Shooting firearms, when done in a safe and responsible way, can be quite enjoyable! Just like any other weapon, be it a katana, shotgun, or a car, when the user is educated in the proper and safe use of the weapon it can be an enjoyable experience to use! I love shooting skeet and target shooting. I was raised around firearms and was taught that safety and respect as a first priority. 🙂

DUH! Video games are lame compared the real thing, and in the movies some of the things they do with guns are just plain stupid. An SMG in every hand and firing level – that’s just BS.

Agreed! Allthough movies and videogames are fun, it’s dangerous when people think they are something that can be done in real life, or try to mimic them. These days, video games and movies are sometimes the only education someone has about firearms, and they are full of misinformation and (of course) safety is usually an afterthought, if it’s included at all. Fortunately most people are intelligent enough to know that movies and games are full of BS!

Aw! I drew with nothing other than an old no-name brand mouse for many, many years! It can be done. I’m sure your mock-up is lovely. 🙂

Yeah, that’s another thing I like about the Spectral: His big wing area. That’s really the only thing that bugs me about Melody’s dragons: the wings would never carry the beast. They’re too small and they’d have to attach to the body all the way to the back legs to give the critter enough lift to get off the ground. The Spectral is better in that regard, but he wouldn’t fly either.

This is true, but it’d be impossible to sculpt wings much larger or spread in different ways without having a lot of breakage. I know Melody would prefer not to have her sculptures so ‘squished’ (and give them ‘normal’ legs!) but she works with the material she’s given. 🙂

I was hugely influenced to start painting (and this sounds hokey but it’s true!) by the Sega Genesis game, Ecco the Dolphin: Tides of Time.
I also loved the Dreamcast Ecco game, defender of the future.

Chrono Cross was one of my favorite Playstation games for the art.

Currently I am loving on Okami for its wonderful style and overall artistic brush painted feel!

Spectrals with regular eyes would be… Interesting.. I don’t think it would look bad, though personally, I much prefer the current spectral eyes. And I will second what everyone else said, it isn’t a “spectral” without the eyes!

If you want to try them with regular eyes though, don’t let us stop you. I am still curious to see what a spectral would look like with regular eyes, even if I would never buy one.

Just a comment to all the haters of the current spectral eyes: make sure you see them in person before you pass judgment! Pics don’t really capture the true depth and color of a spectral’s eyes. You HAVE to see them on the ruby version, they look FANTASTIC! I never loved spectral eyes that much either, or the ruby dragons, but the ruby color plus spectral eyes hits it off perfectly. My ruby spectral is undoubtedly one of my most gorgeous pieces.

I agree! The eyes are what make them ‘spectral’!

And I’ll second your final paragraph- I HATED the ruby color and thought it was not only ugly but boring… until I saw one in person! Then I saw how much depth and lustre it had… wow! My ruby scratcher, which was a gift from my dear friend Vantid, is now one of my favorite posessions! 🙂
And I wasn’t sure about the spectral eyes until I saw them in person either. I always thought, from photos, that they looked cheesy. I was wrong! They’re really neat! 🙂

Maybe humidity in the house? I don’t know. All I know is that for years I have washed my windstones with a slightly damp cloth and a soft bristle toothbrush. For the quick clean I use swiffer sheets. But one of the hatchingling dragons I bought (brown) had half his egg wore away from moisture and the paint just sorta peeled off. But I got out my trusty paper-clay and molded him a new egg, threw on some $.97 walmart acrylic ivory and wha-la not even noticeable. (not bad considering the most expensive part was the paper-clay @ $5.99. Dragon…$3.75! Fixing a Windstone you got a great deal on…PRICELESS!!) 😆

Paper clay? Like celluclay (the white stuff you mix with water)? If it is, that’s just glorified paper mache, just as a note for other users, and it does have some shrinking as it dries! If it’s something else, I’d love to hear what it is. 🙂

I’m holding out for one of the more toned-down ones, as I was really fond of the color of prototype old warriors they put out.
