Here’s my poad! She’s got a nice crisp tribal pattern in pearl white, with copper interference on her cheeks and eyebrows, and glowy purple interference on her beak and throat. Lovely glittering metallic lavender eyes too. She’ll be up for sale or potentially trade.
Thank you as always to everyone who helped put these beauties together and send them out into the world!Forever seeking: Blackwatch the raffle Old Warrior, Jennifer Miller's pieces, and GB Baby unis!
Thanks for this quest Kiya, I’ve had fun with it so far 🙂 Feel better soon and happy decorating!

Brandy your Rainbow SK is stunning! Wonderful to have a beautiful piece connected to a special occasion. Also those two GB unis look familiar… 😀 I never knew they’d make such a great pair – they compliment one another perfectly! Like siblings from spring and autumn. Thanks for posting pictures!

My goodness, I really hope things get much better for you and your family from here on out drag0n! Starting with catching the guy or guys who did this and getting back every penny to replace what you’ve lost. I cannot imagine what you’re going through but I’m glad that you’re safe, your pets are safe, and what you lost can be replaced. If you need to vent, talk, etc. you’re welcome to drop me a line. All the best and good luck with the cleanup.

Thanks Bodine and drag0nfeathers for your suggestions! We’ve tried swordfish once (to no avail) but something freshwater like bass might go over well! I’ll have to experiment 🙂

I’ve enjoyed reading this thread! Food is such an interesting thing – health, culture, socioeconomics – it threads into everything! My husband grew up in a ‘meat and potatoes’ family with lots of white bread and milk, and it’s been fun slowly working him over to a healthier diet. He used to be a cola addict, and now rarely drinks any. I’m really proud of him. Two things I can add to the conversation, followed by a question:
First, I love grains! Although they can take longer to cook (unless you use a parboiled or quick cook product), brown rice, steel cut oats, farro, quinoa – it’s delicious! Whole grains often have a nice nutty flavor and a slightly toothsome texture that keeps us chewing longer, so we can’t eat as fast. I second the bulk bin buying strategy, it can be surprisingly inexpensive vs. the fancy boxed packages. Same goes for nuts! I’ve been trying to swap out whole grains for pasta and white rice where possible.
Second, I love to grow my own food. Even though I don’t have a garden! We rent, and we’re lucky to have a deck that allows space for plenty of pots. But even when restricted to just a windowsill, I’ve grown my own herbs and lettuce mixes. For most of my pots, I’m using self-watering planters I’ve made from plastic storage bins. Instructions for these awesome EarthTainers are available for free here: http://www.earthtainer.org/. They are comparatively inexpensive and amazing – this spring I planted nine tomato plants between two containers and grew enough tomatoes to eat fresh, can an entire winter’s worth of sauce, plus lots to give as gifts, and they’re still growing! The flowers have kept the bees and hummingbirds happy too. I think people underestimate the food production capabilities of their yards and window boxes both for humans and wildlife.
Finally, a question! One sticking point with my husband is fish – he hates it! I have always loved fish and we now live in a place where we can get sustainable, locally-caught native fresh and saltwater fish. He really dislikes the fishy smell and mushy texture of most fish. Can anyone recommend a good ‘starter’ fish to get him hooked on?
Thanks all!

KaytanaPhoenix, your little colt looks more like a Przewalski’s horse to me, but they look close to Fjords too! Very cute fella.

Here’s my little guy! He’s in the store photo too; second row from the bottom and just to the left of center. He has dark brown eyes and amethyst gems, and lots of metallic gold dapples underneath a brown overcoat.
I’m mulling over trading him, but he’s growing on me! The sculpt is really charming and fits right in alongside the baby unis.

Here is my tadpoad Smidgen! She has metallic and interference paint all over, her back flashes pearl and her spots glow blue at the right angle. And I’m loving the little Poad-hawk 😉 Squee at first sight! Her face is a deeper orange in person. She’s peeking out at the very top in the center of the class picture.
Thank you Melody, she’s such a cutie. I feel the strange need to hoard a bunch of these and use them to top cupcakes…Forever seeking: Blackwatch the raffle Old Warrior, Jennifer Miller's pieces, and GB Baby unis!
Susie, you are awesome 😀 thank you for the hard work that you do!
I second this! Thank you so much for all that you do! 😀
Thirded! 🙂 Susie your work with all of that packing and organizing is very much appreciated! A while back, one of the shipping service’s quotes wouldn’t load when I placed an order, and Susie contacted me directly to make sure I was OK with my shipping choice before sending my order out. Going to that trouble was unexpected on my end, and a very nice surprise.
Same goes for everybody at Windstone – I’m sure that with the variety and volume of pieces involved, grab bags must turn the factory upside down, especially when release time comes. Thank you all for creating these bright and beautiful things and sending them out all over the world!

WOW Starcrossed is beautiful! I have never been a fan of those dark blue eyes but they work perfectly here. Etruscan you’re lucky to have gotten her; if your uni ever wants to wander, let me know 😉

Here is Merry – a winterberry uni! Somebody correct me if I’m wrong – have there been any other winterberry young unis, or is she the first? She has a gold leaf design with hints of deep rose pink along the center where it meets her mane, and dashes of purple and greens at the edges. pearl-pink mane, and pearl face, socks, and tail that also have dustings of gold. Red eyes and red gems. A very cheerful uni indeed! Hannah, you’re welcome to use photos in your database.
She’ll be up for trade in the classifieds, if anyone is interested!

August 23, 2013 at 11:15 pm in reply to: Mysterious Dragon-like creature washes ashore in Spain! #901764Looks like a big rotting fish corpse to me! Seagulls probably picked off the skin and scales, taking all of the yummy fat with it. The pharyngeal arches look like they’ve flipped up and out of position to form the ‘horns’ on the head, likely a result of this critter drying out in the hot sun.
Bet it smells lovely, hah!
BTW there was another ‘floating sea monster corpse’ story that cropped up recently. That one was a dead whale.
