The place I found was offering “vintage” crystals both with and w/o the foil backing. The price difference wasn’t a whole lot; maybe a dollar or two. I’m tempted to pick up a package of each, but I think that might be just a bit of overkill. 😀
But I figured that if I grab something that has the size range for *all* the pyo’s, then it would be well worth the hours of sifting through all those eBay sites. hehehe 8)What is the purpose of the foil backing? Is it supposed to make the stone reflect better?
BD, let me know what you find when you get the no foil stones, please?
Thanks!Very very nice work. I’m jealous of those that can do this stuff with an airbrush. I have one, but haven’t touched in like 30 years…..and I’m afraid these pieces are too small for me to use the airbrush, especially since I used to paint vans way beck when LOL XD
My first order was for a Kirin and a Griffin. I think I did the kirin first, then got ambitious and went to the griffy. I love the griffins, and the kirins. Haven’t done any dragons just yet, although I have a keeper and a small dragon here hiding in their boxes. I haven’t done dragon scales just yet. And I have a Uni sitting in the wings waiting for me to make up my mind about how I’m going to actually paint her….gee,*I* don’t know exactly how yet, which is why I HATE having to pick the eye colors ahead of time. 😈
I’ve been haunting evilBay lately since I got my Uni pyo. I’d like to know which stones are better for the pyo’s in general: foil backed or not foil backed?
I’ve found a couple of *very* promising places, and let’s just say that I might have gemstones for life. 😀 I’m pretty sure there will be far more stones than I’ll ever be able to use, so I might be interested in sharing them if anyone is interested. 😉
I don’t know how I missed this thread all this time……
I got my first Windstone back in the mid 80’s–a Peacock young. Then my husband bought me the Peacock male, and I believe they both came from Wicks N Sticks; I *loved* store! I remember seeing the Browns and Greens. I was really into the Anne McCaffery books at the time.
That was all I had……until I found this forum! Talk about “aiding and abetting”? 😆 Now I’m up to 23, (not counting my PYO’s) with my last one being the Blue Ribbon Curlie. Most are either Peacock or EmPea’s. I do have a couple eBay pieces, but by far the culprit to blame for the empty bank account and full shelves would be the online store here and the forum. 😉
And as for age, I’m old enough to know better, and young enough to still not care. 😀Thanks, guys!
I’ve worked out a “compromise” for satisfying my urge to start painting again; early in the day with the snow cover on the ground the light in my living room is pretty good, so I’ve been working on Winter. I have to quit by like 3 in the afternoon because the light changes, which is driving me crackers. *grumbles* Once I start, I *hate* having to quit–it makes my mental muse go off and sulk. 😀
I’ll try to take some pictures for an update.

February 16, 2010 at 8:12 pm in reply to: Prices lowered on Wolf Color Sitting Chick, Bat – Pg. 1 #798664Wow, I’m SO surprised that painting didn’t sell; I thought it was totally stunning! 😮 I can’t imagine what it feels like to have someone want my artwork–I’m usually the last one to get something matted and framed. My best friend has been after me for years to get my stuff mounted and displayed, but I still haven’t done it. The closest I come is with my pyo’s……. 😳
I really do think that the horrible state of our economy has a lot to do with it, though. With so many people out of work, the “disposable income” just doesn’t seem to exist any more. Folks are scrounging to pay bills. I would’ve loved to be able to buy *any* of your paintings; I really liked the Polar Bear–great color combo! 🙂 But since we’re living on one salary at the moment, luxuries are non-existant right now. Have I mentioned I’m really beginning to hate the taste of peanutbutter and jelly? 😀
Don’t give up, though! Especially if it’s something you really love doing. I second the thoughts of looking into different marketing ideas. It can be hard to get established, but once you are then that battle is behind you. 😉
Very lovely! The Unicorn is my favorite. 😀 Did you use an airbrush, or hand brush?
Okay. I’ve managed to upload some pictures of a few pieces I’ve done since the last time I posted here. And apologies in advance for lousy photography. 😳
The first Griffin is Garnet Saphire Jewel, the second Griffin is Tanzanite Emerald Jewel, and the Kirin is Fall. I’m working on Winter; that’s the one Kirin with the aqua that’s partially visible in the shot with Fall. I really want to finish Winter, but right now the room I use for my studio is currently occupied by my mother’s obnoxious cat, who hates *EVERYTHING and EVERYONE*, so unfortunately I can’t just integrate her into the household pride. I’m not about to risk a possible attack just in order to paint. 😮 That room has the best light for the better part of the day, too. 😡 Psycho Kitty is here until mid April, when my parents come back from FL. Boy, my inheritance better be good…… 🙄
I’ve got Spring waiting in his box, along with a Keeper, a small Dragon and a Uni. (I haven’t made a complete decision on how they’ll be painted just yet) and I’m considering adding more detail to the first Kirin I did that was originally posted when I started this thread. He looks too plain to me anymore. 😉

So, tell me what you guys think? Should I quit while I’m ahead? 😀
Aw, Beck! That is horrible news. 🙁 Hopefully things will change for the better. I sure do know the feeling, though.
Sending positive thoughts your way!Aaww! So sorry about Siggie, Lunar! Sounds like you guys are having some of the same bad luck as us with out furkids lately. No matter how long they live, it’s never long enough. 🙁
Sending lots of comforting thoughts, and cyber-hugs!Sorry for your loss; it’s not the size of the animal that counts, but rather the size of the heart and love IN and FOR the animal that counts.
I, too had been on photobucket in “my” album, uploading pictures from the pc to the site. I walked away from the pc for a few minutes, and when I got back I had the dialog box with the warning etc.
FWIW, I got rid of AVG and installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 on the advice of a very geeky friend. So far, so good. It was a hop in the tush to get rid of AVG, since it puts itself all over the pc, but Kaspersky won’t even install if there is any trace of another anti-virus program on board. According to my geek friend, Kaspersky is one of the oldest anti-virus programs out there, and they’re supposed to have one of the very best reputations. The darn thing updates itself *hourly* automatically. I got my copy on sale at amazon.com for like $30. Considering the cost if I had to bring the pc to a geeksquad store for reformatting, debugging, etc the cost would be more like $300, 😮 I’d have to say $30 isn’t so bad.I’m with Pegasi on this one; I don’t even want to go *near* photobucket at this point. I don’t really trust *ANY* anti-virus program totally at this point, and I’m not willing to tempt the fates even further. I can’t live without my computer access. I admit it: I’m addicted…. 😳 Besides, darned near everything is done through the pc now: bill paying, shopping, communications, job search; you name it. No pc means no emails, and I live for my emails. Gad….I have no life. 😀
Um….Question on the winged horse? What is he made out of–resin? I read through the thread and didn’t see anywhere whether he’s a resin or plastic or….? 😳
