December 14, 2015 at 9:52 pm in reply to: KIJIJI Listing – Can Anyone Help Me Accquire A Dragon Figurine I've Been Looking For? #938179
If I lived there, I’d help as those are quite cute!
The listing also says you’re getting 7 of them, as the seller has a duplicate of one…doesn’t say which one s/he has a duplicate of though.
WooooOOOOooooOOOOooo!
Thank you Chibishirou!
I can’t imagine I was easy to shop for; in hindsight, I recall writing a lot of things but upon seeing my own person’s filled-out form, I don’t think much of what I wrote down was of much help. 🙁
I was really excited to see The Arrows Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey. I’m an odd duck and have only ever read one or two of her books, and those when I was much younger and drawn in by the art on the cover (most likely _because_ I was younger I couldn’t wrap my head around the writing style and just never clicked with it), so I can’t wait to have a gander at it.
I’m not exactly sure what the handmade beadwork ‘icicle’-shaped items were (I just kind of assumed ornaments or hanging decor), but they sparkle and I love the colors. I’m gonna take some fishing line and string them from the windows so the sun catches them in the morning.
My Japanese kanji reading skills have rotted since college but I do okay with hiragana and was able to make out the puppy’s name Sasuke (convenient since his was the only one in hiragana on the tag’s picture lol). Based on the coloring I’d guess he’s supposed to be a shibainu? He looks fully peach in the pic since it’s a scaled-down from a cellphone but he is peach with a white underbelly and neck. Nevertheless, he was cuteness personified!
And a chibi-Link plushie–something I’d never buy for myself but am happy to have.
Thank you!
I know that we all have to start somewhere (with ebay that means 0 feedback) and that I’m just being overly precautious (my mind tends to jump to the worst-case scenarios then work its way backwards to a more plausible reality) but this was the first time I’d had it happen to me. Which naturally made me even more skittish.
I do appreciate all of the feedback though. It hadn’t even occurred to me to look at the seller’s past auctions to see if such a thing was a pattern. So that’s definitely something I’ll be doing.
It was partly my fault, too, as I could have waited til the last day to put in a snipe bid rather than an ‘I’m interested’ opening bid. Alas, I’ll have to see how it goes. >_<
Thanks guys!
The sad thing is, I’m also not much of a poad person–at least, that’s what I’d thought from seeing the ones in the store and past grab bags. I was ambivalous towards even the tadpoads until I took a gamble on them and the tads have grown on me. Seeing these young poads just blows my mind in the best way possible.
I don’t know whether or not I’ll be able to go in on the youngs, but I figured I could at least pick out a few faves in case I do or someone else isn’t happy with theirs…I’ll probably start a new topic to post them though rather than clutter this one. I can’t wait to see what people get!
I’m glad you liked the gifts, Natasha!
I didn’t know for certain that I was to include my forum name so I didn’t…and it really didn’t help that I’m always trepidatious (need I say anxious?) about buying people gifts. Even so, this was the first time in awhile that I’ve been excited to do any Christmas shopping (nowadays it’s just giftcards for family since I never really know what they want or need). That you are satisfied makes me content. 🙂
Happy birthday! 🙂
I made so many changes to this piece, time and again, and I finally got to a point where I can sit on it and figure out what I want to do. The colors _eventually_ got to where I wanted them, if in the wrong spots. T_T
The body scales were supposed to be something of a golden color but detailed with red and pink. Unfortunately the lovely palsy in my hands courtesy of my grandpa’s genetics via my mom makes it hard to be steady so every time I tried to add in the details it just looked messy. So the body scales went from detailed gold, to metallic bronze, to an awkward pink color that wound up with a ruby reddish wash, to the final metallic pinky-mauve shade.
The hide started as a yellowish brown that matched the ruby-washed pink body scales really well but when I did the belly scales gold it clashed with the yellow fur; so the fur went to a more natural light brown with a grey undercast (which was more along the lines of what I originally wanted it to be anyway). But with the change in hide color, the ruby washed body scales looked wrong on the darker fur, so the scales went to metallic mauve (which is one of the colors the original detailing on them was supposed to be).
I’m not sure about the mane and tail. I knew I wanted them a darker red-pink, which is what this is, and I’m content with it. At least it’s similar to what I pictured in my mind’s eye. I do need to blend the mane better though, as the fawn-brown was supposed to fan outwards a little, blending into a lighter shade of the mane, then into the darker natural color…but when I did the initial blending for some reason the tan just thinned out atop the darker color and looks whitish rather than pink (I’ll probably have to blend up different shades of pink to layer together).
All I can say is T_T.
There’s a lot of hours of work in this, even though it doesn’t look like much. There is still detailing I would like to do, both to the body scales and fur, as well as the lid around the eye. Not to mention the light pink I need to make the tip of the nose and the inner ear tuffs (and I was leaning towards tipping the hooves in the same light pink as the nose would be). But, as I said, I’m finally at a point I can sit and stare at it before pushing again. In the meantime, I have a pyo dragon to work on for my fiancee. (I’m nothing if not obstinate!)
Also, photographing anything metallic is a pain the butt! Even in a natural lighting environment the photos just weren’t looking correct. The second picture here is probably the closest to how the piece actually looks.
I finally got around to posting pictures of these two. They were part of my final tadpoad purchase, back before Thanksgiving, and I was excited to get two that I really liked (at last!). I would really like to find matching young poads for them with the new GBs when they come out (assuming similar colored ones were even painted)…and I defintely don’t have the money to toss around like I did with the tadpoads. Thus I would greatly appreciate it if people kept their eyes out or send me a PM if they get one they don’t like that matches this pair. Thanks guys. 🙂
I suppose I should probably make a wanted ad too. Hrm…
The rainbow one has a little metallic lavendar at his crest and phases through blue and green (I only wish his pattern was a little more remarkable as it’s just a few black patches on his back). The other is a beautiful silver and light teal poison dart. Now all I need to do is find a violet purple one!
Congrats, Kim!
That Hot Rod riser is really something else! I like the uniqueness of the spectral with a regular eye compared to the dichrotic orbs you see normally. The color scheme is great, too…aside from the moustache I keep seeing on his face. The metallic blue ‘eyebrows’ are one thing, but those black swirls along his jaw just scream handlebar moustache magnifique (so I can’t not think of him as a dapper gent!).
I do really like the metallic phasing on the edges of the wings. The blue splash on the belly gives me pause as it’s just randomly there, though it’s still a spectacular piece!
Ha! That’s fantastic! It definitely brings a smile to my face.
I think the pink lap and silver OW look much more reserved about the whole thing (though it could just be the flash not being as bright on them)…but you’re definitely right that the RF OW seems a bit…miffed…about the situation and the poor ruby lap has that expression of “what the heck just happened to me?!?”
I also really like that lamp! That’s neat!
I think young poads could be fun, especially if you can swing a safari + fantasy batch. If not, then a straight safari batch. It would be fun to make a matching poad family to go with the new tadpoads.
I really had a lot of fun with the Oils Spots, all the colors are over the copper and the green isn’t green at all! Its bright gold dusted over our cowpie blue! I may be a color nerd, but I just love them so much in person
It’s such a gorgeous seafoam green color, so soft and subtle! (And with most of the eyes being a similar shade of green, I was in love.) I’d love to see more incorporation of colors like this, or even just more of that green.
I also really appreciated how muted the color scheme of the oil spots were, especially for being a rainbow. Fantastic job! 🙂
Happy Birthday! Hope it’s a good one! 🙂
