Aw, man, you have made my night!! I will definitely click, then! I’m determined to buy myself a Windstone for Christmas, and with Laps out of commission my options are a little narrower; and I’ve wanted a White Riser for a long, long time now! *excited* It’s one of the few White pieces I don’t have, so it’s something of a “Grail” piece (as we say in the Breyer collecting hobby). 🙂

This was what I was actually thinking about – I know that pewter is a “nice”/”decorative quality” metal, but I’m not sure it’s worth all the expenses and difficulties that have gradually added themselves to it. What about aluminum horns? Aluminum’s lighter weight, but durable, and it’s not like it’s cheap potmetal; it’s fairly expensive/”nice”. It should be possible to gold-plate them, right? And it seems like it might be easier to find people able to work/cast aluminum (with its thousands of commercial uses) than pewter, which is pretty firmly stuck in the ‘decorative’ category…
In another vein: probably wildly impractical, but: picture, if you will, a Gothic unicorn in a dark color scheme with a blackened cast-iron horn spiraling from his brow. O.O
Which brings me, roundabout-ly, to something else I was thinking: I think a well-plated or well-coated junk-metal horn would also be beautiful and durable enough to adorn a Windstone! Honestly, I was thinking about some of the darker color schemes today (e.g. my BVP Warrior) and it occurred to me: imagine a glossy BLACK set of horns on a dragon like that! Not only would it look a little “more natural” (no animal I know of can produce a gold body part!), but it would look really nice in a collection that mixes older sculpts with natural horns (e.g. original family, whose horns were sculpted as part of the body) with newer, plated-horn sculpts!
Just a bunch of thoughts, in case anything like these ideas are currently under consideration and everyone’s wondering ‘but will the fans go for it?’ 😀 😀 😀

I enjoyed my time with her very much (and she fit right in with my Lap family!) but when I moved and 95% of my collection went into storage, I felt it wasn’t fair to bundle such a unique piece into a box for an indefinite stay; I raffled her off to benefit the Cloud Foundation for wild mustangs. 😀

I’d really love a Cb Crimson – well, what I *really* want is one 2nd-gen Silver from Tsunami! But I realise that’s probably too much to ask. 😀 I’m open to other offers, though, including 2nd-gen Soulpeace eggs/hatchies and Cb Daydreams… Offer whatever you feel is fair, though!

Oooh, I’m sure you’ll enjoy them! Laps are my favorite, too, and while I never got a Ruby, I have heard they’re very light-sensitive (and water-sensitive). All of my Laps arrived quite safely, though, so I think they’re a pretty low-risk sculpt in terms of shipping damage! As long as they’re packed correctly, of course. I think the worst that ever happened to one of mine was arriving with a skewed horn, which I can’t prove was the fault of the shipping; maybe it was bent when it was put in. Either way, I straightened it out by hand with no problems.

I leave mine on; it’s small enough that on 9 out of 10 pieces it can be easily tucked out of sight beneath the sculpture, so it doesn’t bother me.
That said, a few of mine were purchases without hangtags, and it doesn’t really matter either way to me; I wouldn’t pay more/less depending on hangtag status.

I don’t like the Spectral eyes, but I LOVE everything else about him! And even the eyes aren’t so bad with all those colors to distract me! 🙂

Welcome to the club! As a longtime Breyer collector, myself, I can tell you for certain that a career shelling out large sums of money for plastic horses (I hope my Connoisseur Conga Line doesn’t see me calling them that…) is GREAT practice for Windstone collecting! 🙂
Try telling your pocketbook that Windstones weigh more, and so you are therefore getting “more” for your money than when you buy Breyers. (I tried that on mine; alas, all my pocketbook did was whisper something about heavier shipping fees before wasting away into near-collapse.)
