Wow, there are a lot of us born in the dragon year (me too  )

I’d love to see a special Oriental (I’m partial to the young), maybe red (ducks bricks and rocks) since red is considered lucky in Chinese culture, but any special color would do!

        I know that pattern!!!

I’ve done a few plushes, both my own patterns, store bought and taking a store bought and altering it to what I want.

The best advice I can give… Practice, practice practice! and don’t be afraid of messing up. You will mess up. It’s part of the process and don’t get discouraged, take what you’ve learned and keep trying. For the Carrots I posted, It took me at least 6 tries to do the carrot part and at least 4 for the leaf.
Use cheap broadcloth when you are first figuring things out or trying out new techniques rather than the expensive stuff you really want to make your critter out of.
The big pattern companies all have some plush things in their craft sections, I would start with those because they come with instructions and give you a chance to become familiar with how a plush goes together. You also get a chance to see how the shape and curve of something affects the critter.
A good one for basic shapes and putting stuff together

        A dragon pattern with wings!

The pony pattern you have is also a good basic one and there should be instructions for cutie marks and eyes with it (though I don’t really like those eyes). If there isn’t let me know and I’ll see if I can find mine and scan it for you.
Check out the book store as there are lots of pattern and how to books in the craft section

You can also PM me if you have questions. I don’t do a lot of plush but have been sewing and pattern making for years! 😀

          Awesome! 😀
I am/was in theatre so got to work with a few makeup artists, had to learn a few tricks too cause somehow it was always me who wound up teaching the newbies and guys how to do make up, which is kinda ironic since I rarely wear makeup.

A couple of years ago I got to me a make up dummy for the local IATSE’s make up workshop and had bullet holes, scars and a black eye one day and was 40’s glam and since I have very ruddy skin had to be turned into “a person who has lived in a cave dwelling post apocalyptic society” as the challenge for the make up artist I was assigned to the next.

I use MAC make up when I do wear make up. It’s the only stuff that I’ve ever had that I haven’t reacted to or felt like I was wearing a mask when I had it on. It’s expensive but totally worth it!

My hair is down to my butt (just long enough that I don’t actually sit on it when I sit down) My biggest problem is breakage, especially during winter since it’s so dry and cold here. I use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner but do you have any other tips?

            You have no snow!
Love pronghorns, you are so lucky to get a shot of a whole herd like that, they have the best antlers and babies are just *squee*
We get pronghorns just south of here but I’ve never seen a live one.

Tell the boyohs to enjoy the time off! 🙂

I’m just south of FlamingDragon so been in the same deep freeze for the last week. It was -32C (-26F) here last night. With the windchill it pushed it down to -50C (-58F). A week ago we were having daytime highs of 9C (48F). Gotta love living in a place where the temp can swing by 30 degrees in a day! 😛

The last ‘Snow Day’ we had here was St. Patty’s of ’99 (i think) when we got a meter of snow in less than 12hrs. That was a really rare occurance, usually we get ‘It’s $@^&$ freezing days’ but even then I can only remember 2 when I was in school.

My College has a cold weather policy, if the daytime high is -25C (-13F) or below, no class. So today I had a whole extra day to work on my homework!

Wow! Those last two questions were great! It’s so exciting to “knock off” a whole bunch of possibilities from the little list I made! (And I’m sure I’m not the only one doing it either! Haha…)
These quests have been so much fun! Whoever thought of creating them is a complete genius!!! 😀

I had my first law stuff exam on Friday and was worried about how I did since I completly blanked on a few questions (only to suddenly know the answers while I was shopping a hour after the exam 😐 ) and got the test back today.

I got a 95% on the exam and finished that course with a 97%! 😀

I told Melody over on DA that they should be called Northern Lights Dragons.
We get Northern Lights that are mostly blues and greens with hints of reds and purples against the black sky up here so I think that name would be perfect!

Actually, I don’t sew at all, but I have been meaning to learn. I’m very short so every pair of pants that I buy has to be taken in, and it’s getting more and more expensive. And I’d love to be able to make basic repairs and not have to take everything to a shop!

I’ll probably take it to my stepmother and have her try it. She does a lot of sewing.

As for trying it out myself, it currently seems to be missing the thread that should be coming up through the part below the needle and I have no idea how to set it up.

In that case if it works and all it would be a very good first machine.
Sounds like it either missing a bobbin or needs to have the bobbin threaded. You should be able to pull the metal plate under the needle aside and see if there is actually a bobbin in there. You can find bobbins at any sewing shop, take your machine in and they should be able to help you. 🙂

I think basic sewing like putting up hems and replacing buttons is something everyone should know how to do! and it saves you money :p

Depends on if you sew. :p

It looks like an older model (70s maybe?) and Viking tends to be one of the better brands in my experience. I have a machine from the 40s or 50s that is super simple (goes forward and backward) but its the best cause it is durable goes through darn near anything (6 layers of fabric when doing a corset was awesome!) Most of the ones you buy today can’t do that.

You should grab a piece of scrap fabric and see if it actually sews, it’s not worth much if it doesn’t actually work :D. You can check online, maybe the viking site? and see if they can help you identify it. The other thing is that you may want to check with a sewing machine shop and see if they can give the parts a cleaning and tune up.

If you sew, I would probably keep it (or pass it on to someone who does sew), especially if you just do basic stuff. From the pictures it has every stitch you would need for most normal things.

                                Well Yeah…..
People always find a way to amaze me. That seems like sour grapes and is just plain petty. And frankly I wouldn’t want to buy from anyone with a negative screen name. 🙁

Though I did get a laugh out of her plaster sculpture (I’ve seen and painted those) rant. Windstone wasn’t around in the 70’s and I can’t help but think she’s poking at the PYO’s that are up. Obviously she has never tried painting one of those if she calls them crap :p

I am more than glad to see the back end of 2011. Everything in my life fell apart last year resulting in major stress and the need to start nearly everything all over again. :tired:

But, I’m looking forward to 2012 and getting everything back on track! 😀
