Regarding a trinket for Syzll to hold: I was in a JoAnn’s recently and found a whole rack of glass beads in different shapes, including several types of fruit. There was even a strand of citrus slices–lemon, orange, and lime! So if you wanted something citrus-y, they would be perfect. π
I’ve cleaned several extremely dusty (or downright grubby!) Windstones using Q-tips dipped in distilled water (we have really hard tap water, which is why the distilled water). If the dirt is sticky, getting it wet and letting it sit for a minute before rubbing it away with the Q-tip usually works. I start by getting the flat surfaces of the scales clean, which can take two or three rounds of rubbing. For the tight crevices between scales, I tease out the end of the Q-tip into a tail and then push it down into the crevice using a toothpick. This method takes forever, but it is extremely safe.
That said, I know I have read posts by people who actually held the dragon under a running tap! But an Emperor is so big that it would be hard to do without hitting the tap or the side of the sink, plus you’d have an awful time keeping the felt pad dry.
January 12, 2013 at 5:43 am in reply to: Grayfire batch π NEW Island Flower Foop!!:D 4/5/13 #891583I especially like the way this dragon’s tail shades from rich brown to rich dark red. That, contrasted with his cute little white spots, really appeals to me. Nicely done–I do love dark reds! π

The eyespots on his tail are little hearts! How on Earth did you get the outlines of the heart shapes so perfect? I love his expression in the second photo from the bottom: he looks like he’s getting ready to zap something. Crows may mob hawks, but they shouldn’t attempt to mob a phoenix….
π Many thanks for the encouragement. I think I need to start painting again…. Seeing all of the wonderful paintjobs that people have been creating lately is making my fingers itch. I repainted two cheap resin dragons recently, trying out colors over a dark background. It was fun! Has anyone else tried out a rescue PYO yet?
January 6, 2013 at 12:42 am in reply to: 12/26/12 Batch of Grab Bag Young Poads picture thread! #891259I thought the matching Fuzzy was a very sweet touch. I actually saw the Fuzzy before the Poad, and thought, “Oh my gosh, that is such a pretty Fuzzy; wouldn’t it be wonderful if the Poad had colors like that.” And then I finished unrolling the Poad from all of that packing paper, and there she was and she did!
N’Twe, although I’m sure it isn’t pronounced this way, sounds like “newt” in my head XD
I’m sure he would have vastly preferred I call him Newt during those ten months! π I almost wish I’d taken pictures of him back when he looked so awful, just so that I could look at them and remember that even the worst start can become something better.
I’m glad people like him. Now that we’ve gotten past the growing pains, he’s one of my favorites.
Jeepers, it’s been a while! I actually finished this dragon back in 2010 (good grief!) but due to various life-related aggravations never posted any photos. But today I was snapping a few pictures and decided “what the hey.” This is N’Twe.
He was a challenge. When I finished his inital basecoating and layering, I looked at him and realized I’d just painted him to look like a poo. Frustrated, I dubbed him “Turd With Eyes” and put him away. Ten months later, I realized what the dragon wanted to look like was not what I had been trying to make him. I pulled him out and finished the paintjob. Now he needed a new name, so: N’Twe, which stands for “Not a Turd With Eyes.” π
January 3, 2013 at 3:49 pm in reply to: 12/26/12 Batch of Grab Bag Young Poads picture thread! #890958Oh, my…. I got my little Poad yesterday, and I wish I had time to get some photos this morning because she is wonderful! She’s actually one of the ones in the Store photo, at the eleven o’clock position. She has blue feathery wings, a black body, blue eyes, and the most wonderful cheeks that shade from gold to crimson. She even arrived with a color-coordinated Fancy Fuzzy. I’m so happy with her! A thousand breathless thank-yous to Melody for painting these, and to whatever whimsy placed this little sweetheart into my shipping box!
I’m hoping to see pictures of the stone, but it will be in lots of pieces. I’m told it was about the size of my forefinger from the tip to the second knuckle. No wonder it was causing problems!
Merciful heavens. :O What a miserable brute that stone was! It always amazes me what modern medicine can do. Obnoxious kidney stone the size of a Siberian hamster? Say hello to lithotripsy, rock! |( I’m glad you’ve got good doctors in your corner, and that you’ll be on the mend now. Congratulations! π
December 29, 2012 at 12:48 am in reply to: Silver Old Warriors – there will be more 12/10/12 #890694HELLO! Susie, you have just made my day with the Silver OW restock! I’m gonna do the can-can all the way down to the chicken barn now . . . which should be quite a sight in gumboots. :p Yahoo!
Not a fun Christmas . . . good grief, I’ll say. π But the most important thing is that the kidney stone is OUT, and now you can get down to some recovery. Regarding the murmur: anemia can definitely cause a murmur all by itself, as well as shortness of breath. I’m glad to hear that the docs think that that was the culprit, because you can totally overcome that now that Lithy the Obnoxo-Rock is out of the way. Please take good care of yourself and think positive thoughts. You can heal now! π
Finding this later on in the day–I sure hope you’re not still in surgery at this point, yeek–but all the same you have my best wishes! May the surgeon be skilled, the anesthesiologist savvy to really good pain control, and the healing proceed smoothly. π
Happy dance! I got one! And looking at the class photo, there are so many really lovely babies (Poadlets? Poadlings? Poadywogs?) in this batch–Melody, once again you’ve outdone yourself. π I love how you just keep on coming up with more and more wonderful patterns, color combinations, juxtapositions of ideas. I’m really excited to have gotten one of the Grab Bag baby Poads at last, and even more so seeing how gorgeous they are in their photo. (And the social Fuzzies joining in the spiral formation are a nice touch.)
Folks are pointing out favorites, but that’s a toughie–I love everybody in the photo from about 9 o’clock clear around to 3 o’clock, and half of the rest! π
