*Is late*
You’re welcome Adaneth! I love spreading good music around, and I love threads like these. I’m going through sampling everyone’s playlists 🙂
Thanks guys! It’s definitely one of my biggest accomplishments, but I’m still sort of numb about it. I figure that when my account balance comes back with a nice old zero where my loan used to be I’ll start laughing like a madwoman 😛
I just paid off my student debt. All of it.
It hasn’t really sunk in yet. I paid for my entire post-secondary education by myself, because my parents just did not have the money to help out financially. I worked crummy factory jobs, I’m currently working an administration job outside of my field while I continue to look for something that fits my degree, and I’ve been dumping every spare penny I’ve made into the black hole that was my debt.
And suddenly it’s gone. Well over $50,000 in seven years, five of which I spent going to school.
Everyone is telling me to splurge on something big (and the Old Warrior that I’ve always wanted is doing a fine job of tempting me), but I just can’t. Too many new debts to save up for, like houses and cars, and I really want to help my parents out a bit too. They may not have been able to write cheques for my tuition, but they’ve supported and sheltered me to the best of their ability for years 🙂
I’m a bit of a score nerd. When I was at university I found that listening to music with lyrics while I worked made it harder to concentrate, and if I listened to music with lyrics while studying? Those lyrics played in my head the entire time I wrote the test! So I started listening to film scores on an internet radio site. John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Steve Jablonsky, Howard Shore, Bear McCreary, Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner are among my favourite composers.
What I listen to the most right now is music by Thomas Bergersen and a group that he is part of called Two Steps from Hell. Again it’s instrumental stuff, a lot of it is actually used for theatrical trailers, and I love it. I’d try listing some favourites but I’d be here all day. Just searching their names on YouTube will bring up a bunch of different tracks. Try several different tracks if you’re interested, their stuff covers a broad range from high-energy and loud to soft and quiet.
We just got back from two weeks at our cottage, which our dogs adore. It’s like Dog Heaven up there. Rebel, our five year old Sheltie, believes that waves are hostile forces sweeping in to conquer our beach and do harm to his family. He reacts accordingly:
Rylee, our one year old Brittany Spaniel really got the hang of swimming this year. She also decided that standing on her back feet while in the water was a great way to wait for Dad to throw her frisbee:
Here’s a more serious look at Rylee, when she’s not pretending to be an aqua-gremlin:
I was actually hoping to clear out the last of my university debt and possibly treat myself to that particular Old Warrior, and you know what? I’m not the least bit upset or disappointed to have missed out. It sounds like you’ll really appreciate him, so I don’t see any reason why you should feel guilty 🙂
I actually had some Emerald Peacock-related guilt a few years ago, when I got the very last signed Em Pea curlie from the store after he had sat there for quite some time. I had worked a day of double-pay overtime, and rather than putting every cent of my wages into my school Debt Pit I decided to get my first ever Windstone. I felt guilty after I committed to the purchase, I thought that I should have put every penny down on my debt, but my parents told me that I had to have some fun every once in a while. I also felt badly when other collectors began to ask where the last Em Pea curlie went, but they were all so supportive when they found out that I had it. He may be tiny, but I still love that sculpture to bits.
As for my Old Warrior dreams, maybe there will be more of them in that colour soon, and if not I’m sure that some other colour will come along and tempt me in due time. Enjoy your dragon! It’s so nice to see someone else who loves that colour as much as I do 😛
Now I’m really excited to see what the silver OW’s look like! I’m so close to finally paying off my school debts, but I doubt that I’ll have them cleared before these guys go on sale. I’ll have to behave myself for a while longer.
Aw, they’re so darn cute! 🙂
When I was 9 years old my grandparents down the street gave my sisters and I the choice of having bunnies or chickens out in the hutch in the backyard. Being little girls, we chose the fluffy bunnies over the chickens, but this makes me think that maybe we should have gone with the birds instead.
Wow, all the Old Warriors on here are so gorgeous. It’s the sculpt that I love the most out of everything that Windstone has ever made, next to the Secret Keeper, but at least there’s a shred of a chance that I might own one in the future. I think it’s safe to say that I’ll never have an SK 😛
And I have to admit, the Spectrals are starting to grow on me too!
Here’s my entire collection, minus one unfinished Keeper PYO that’s currently hiding in shame in his box:
The Em Pea curlie is my favourite of the bunch, and my first Windstone ever.
Oh man, another amazing male Giffin for me to drool over!
I absolutely love the Dark Grey Hawk Griffin, especially with those wonderful silver eyes!
Wow, I very much like the new wolf griffin colour! I had seen one of the older ones in a store and disliked it very much, but these newer ones are awesome! It’s a good thing I like my Siamese male so much or I might have hated myself for buying him instead of getting a wolf griffin.
Oh man, that male griffin is just…wow. I’m totally in love with him!
I didn’t think that I liked the amethyst colour, but holy crap does that Old Warrior look amazing in it! 😮
Oh no, a penguin griffin 😆
She’s very striking, and she certainly made me smile, but I’m afraid that Antarctic griffs just aren’t for me.
