Yes!! Now I remember seeing him, I even thought about bidding on him. I knew I kept searching the web for a reason, but I was ignoring all the eBay ones because I thought it was the same listing showing up! 🙄 I’ve contacted him so I suppose we’ll see. Thank you so much, at least I have the exact same dragon (only older) so if he wants to see what a brown Hatcher looks like I can easily show him.

      Thank you!

I think I’ll pull this in a bit, if it’s all accidental I’d have to seem to be posting him as a fruad!

I found something that I believe is hinky, but honestly, I’m not sure what to do with it, if anything. I’m sorry if this is the wrong place to put this item.

I found a hatcher listed as a “Royal Citrine” test paint on ebay, the seller gives no real description otherwise. What worries me is that it’s listed as a very specific item that I’m not sure ever existed, at least I couldn’t find it with a quick search. There is nothing but a couple of fuzzy red marks that just look like stains on the bottom. Really I believe it’s an older brown hatcher, or at least I have one that looks exactly like his! If you had something you didn’t know anything about, I’m not sure how you’d come across that exact test paint and think “Hey! That’s what this is.”

Any thoughts anyone? If this post doesn’t belong here, or this is already listed in here, let me know and I’ll pull it

Drag0nfeathers Just curious, is it harder to texture and paint a “regular” dragon, or a Guardian? I’ve always avoided picking up any guardians to repair thinking they’d be way more obvious if you didn’t get it JUST right, but it occurs to me I could be totally wrong for all I know.

Sounds like a weird thing to ask, but I got a huge box of dental tools actually from my dental hygienist. My dental office autoclaved and resharpened their tools until they felt they were past their prime, I don’t know if all dentist do that, as I know a lot of other medical tools are now just thrown away (like scissors!). My hygienist couldn’t bring herself to just toss them thinking that maybe she could find a use for them, and once she heard how many different crafts I do she was happy to give them to me. I’d be willing to bet at least some other offices would be willing to do the same thing is asked. Mine were all clean and autoclaved, they were just no longer good for dental use. So if someone is looking to find dental tools to play with and either can’t find them or afford them, it can’t hurt to ask. Oddly enough you can ask for damn near anything that’s touched you in the medical field, dentist are some of the few that still autoclave and reuse, I have a large number of scissors because of that now.

HA! I just keep getting busy and forgetting to check my posts! I guess this is proof I’m always way to busy.

Poor man doesn’t have a good display side. When I bought him he was already fairly damaged, but he was DESTROYED in shipping. Actually, I believe he was the item that made me swear off buying the larger pieces from ebay, I simply haven’t gotten a single one whole! No really, not one. Smaller or even mother dragons, sure, fathers or anything like that nope. You’d think people would realize that something that is already broken is fragile and breakable, especially after the buyer tells them they are! So far all but once I was able to make a deal with the horrible packers, so usually I end up with $20 practice pieces. But hey, nothing like something that’s ruined to show you your repair skills are better than you know, when it’s already destroyed you stop worrying about destroying it.

Thankfully I always have tons of projects so I didn’t have to look at the poor guy all that much, so I’ve only just hauled him back out.

They totally do, at least I know super glue and a couple of others do. The only issue is often the dissolver will damage the paint or even the gypsum. :/ No doubt it’s one of those, item by item things as to if it’s worth it or not. I’ve had decent luck, but I always do it with crossed fingers knowing I could actually destroy what I’m trying to fix.

Cool! I’d love to see (and buy) that!

Yep, that would be before I decided to do more than collect and fix Windstone and started lurking around the forum and whatnot.

There’s so much variation to these beasts I’ve no doubt Melody can come up with some amazing things. Heck, even a sculpted version of the odd old drawing of a giraffe/kirin I’ve seen would be super cool.

As I have zero idea if Melody has stated she is making a qilin and said it’ll sort of look like “xyz” (sorry Melody!), I’m only talking about mythology. Oh, and I totally apologize if I get my facts wrong, it’s been forever since I did my research and I’m not calling anyone out, just sharing info I loved as a child.

The kirin and qilin are the same creature, location mainly being the reason for the difference, Kirin for the Japanese and qilin for the Chinese. Much like the European unicorn they are discribed dozens of different ways, sometimes more lionlike, sometimes more deerlike, or dog like, or dragonlike, but it’s not a set this is x and this is y, and actually the names are often used interchangeably. Totally cool fact though? I think it’s the Chinese whose word for giraffe is “kirin”, how cool is that? I have a couple of different Asian (antique) Kirins and they look very different from each other. I always thought Melody’s momma kirin looks like the deer version and the papa looks like the lion version. But having said that, id LOVE to see slightly different kirins (or qilin) made, I’d quickly run out of money.

So again, not at all trying to call anyone out, this is just one of the creatures I’ve loved since childhood, I ever have a stylized version I drew tattooed on me. I can’t even discribe how excited I am to see the new forked horned kirins!!

I’m super excited about the forked horn, it’s actually much more true to the original Kirins, although I do love the old ones too. I’d like to toss out a mini squeak for new Kirin colors, that way when I buy forked horn kirins (and I will) I am get a different color so I don’t feel as silly. Lol

                      • If i remember right the one on Melody’s page was done with a horn from the oriental dragons, so that might help give people an idea of what she might have in mind. (Just guessing though)

I will be one extremely happy girl if you make forked horn kirins!!! I can’t say how very much I love the one I saw!

I’ll have to have a chat with my other Kirins so they know not to pick on the new guys for being different. Lol . 😉

YES YES YES YES! I third fourth and fifth this! I would buy something like this any day of the week!

This was mentioned in the Christmas card Gallery Thread by Landipan and I like the idea so much I’m gonna squeak for it. I do know that the tail would need to be closer to the body to be workable as a sculpt. But I think it would be adorable! Pleaseee make a pebble sized Kirin like this one…

I was going to mention the acetone myself as I’ve used it to remove miss-glued stuff. It works, but in my case it did soften the gypsum some and damage the paint, but as it was already damn neigh destroyed it didn’t matter really.

The thing that works the best for me takes a bit of modeling skill and obviously requires painting, but generally leaves me with a damn near unseeable fix, as long as we are talking about a slightly offset piece, I do the same thing to make noticeable cracks left over after reglueing, disappear.

I take a sharp exacto blade and usually some sandpaper, and basically dig a channel into the piece where the pieces meet. Obviously as small as possible to hide the difference in the pieces. Then I fill with apoxy sculpt to get a nice continuous join between the pieces and sculpt it to match. It works really well, but I only do it to basically destroyed items.

I don’t know that this is a fake, but the complete lack of felt pad (with no explaination of why it isn’t there) makes me suspicious. Pictures aren’t fantastic, but if you zoom in there are some places that look a bit rough. Or maybe I’m just looking for stuff that isn’t there as I’m already slightly suspicious because they claim there’s no damage but I found at least two dark rubbed spots. 3 days left to the auction I believe.

Yep, I’m keeping the guy, doing it a little at a time is a great idea, I have plenty of other things I can work on. I feel bad for the guy. I have plenty of damaged things I put aside to fix if I have the skills later on.

It’s funny, chunk of tail and toesz missing? Bring it on, eventually I’ll get it right. Scales missing, horns, wings a bit busted up, bring it too. Damn tiny detail bumps and whatnot…. Eeek! I haven’t yet given up on him, we have all the stuff we need to make a mold (yeah, we do lots of crafts!) and I finally got a dragon I might be able to mold off of. We’ll see. (How great would it be to have a mold of something like that?)

God I’d hate to learn on something like this! I mean, I guess if you managed on something like this you can do almost anything. Although it’s a good thought if I ever have one I’m just not willing to touch, which as crappy as people pack and USPS handles stuff will probably happen some day. :/

I think I just find peoples different skills and limits interesting. I tend to often think if I can do something everyone can, but I know it’s not at all true, I do tons of stuff most people believe they can’t do.

Thanks! I’ve never had a lot of luck seeing stuff on their site for some reason! Maybe it’s a phone verses computer issue. Anyway, I don’t think that’s what my little guy has, maybe it’s just a sort of longer snout? This one is painted a different color and mine isn’t. Interesting. Well, thanks again!!
