Green eyes might look good on your Stone Willow Foop if you can get them. Perhaps similar in color to the tail?
Nice colors on the Foop – I like them very much. πI was thinking either green, or the metallic periwinkle. (There’s a little purple interference on there, and I think it would bring it out.)
Here’s what I’m working on right now:
Some bits of it are coming out nicely, some I’m struggling with. And this is another watercolor one, which means you can’t just paint over the bits you change your mind on, you’re kind of stuck with them.
You guys ever get discouraged when your projects just aren’t doing what you want? (Or when people don’t seem to like the ones you really liked?) I’m kinda blah right now. Mostly it’s because of the light, since I have Seasonal Affective Disorder, but artistic frustration doesn’t help.
Siberakh1, that is a gorgeous phoenix! I love the shooting stars. π
Testing out an idea on this little guy. Not sure how I feel about it, honestly. It’s a combination of the Willow color scheme and the Stone color scheme from the kirin and kittygriff I did. I like some bits of it, but I still don’t know if I want to scale it up to the adults or not. I need to get in some more pups to do some more test paints. Also I want to give him different eyes, I don’t like the blue eyes. (They’re not glued in yet, so I can change them.)
December 13, 2014 at 6:46 pm in reply to: Amstaffs PYO Thread– "Fire and Ice" Kitsunes, finished pair #922999The main issue for me is the black mane, I find it too solid of a color which to me hides the details. I would like to antique this with a lighter color, but am unsure … is this something that is commonly done, or do people not antique dark areas with a lighter color?
I tend to do a little dry-brushing on very dark colors that need to pop more. Although I’m sure antiquing could look good too! But I like the way the dry brushing looks like natural highlights and shadows.

Oh, sorry, it’s sold. I forgot to update this. I have a couple of the smaller plushes up on ebay right now, but all three of the larger ones sold.
Dang it, I just got the BEST idea for a kitsune paint job, but the store is out of kitsunes. π I need another foo pup too, but I don’t want to order just to get a foo pup.

That is lovely. I admire people who can do busy patterns like that and keep it looking nice. π
I would never have thought to paint a Windstone like a transformer. That is really neat!
Whew! The last of the Christmas present PYOs for my friends is done. (The last six things I’ve posted have been gift PYOs.)
This adorable little guy is mixed media. Mostly watercolor, but the white stripes are acrylic. (Because trying to leave them white while using watercolors would be an exercise in futility.) I LOVE how he came out. Sometimes simple designs are the best designs.
Since I finally have the Christmas PYO project off my plate, I have the time to take a few commissions now, if anyone’s interested. They’d be finished probably early January, but possibly sooner, if I get bored of sewing and decide to do some more painting this month. (I probably shouldn’t, I have a lot of sewing to do, but doing the same thing every day gets really old sometimes. Anyhow.) My rates can be found at the bottom of the commission artist sticky. I am open to negotiation, and to trades too. π
(Also, the fire muse is still looking for a home, just fyi. Totally willing to negotiate on her price, or trade her for something, I’d rather see her go cheap to somebody who’d love her than sit here being ignored.)
Can someone explain the kickstarter for me ?? π
I’ve run three campaigns so far! It’s basically for two things:
One is how it’s mostly used, for when you have a product you want to make, but the initial startup costs are just too great for you to pay, so you tell everybody “Hey, pitch in and help me get the funds to do this project, and I’ll give you stuff.” Usually the stuff is the project in question. Like I needed to get some resin dragons cast, and the caster had a minimum order, so I needed to have enough funds to do at least 20 of them. (Most of my backers got the dragons after they were cast, though I also offered a few other options for people who didn’t want or couldn’t afford them, and still wanted to help.)
The other is basically doing a project you could fund normally, but you’d rather let the community have a chance to “own” it by helping fund it, and maybe get some publicity/advertising out of it as well, which I think would be what Windstone would be doing here, since obviously they’re totally capable of making hoarder dragons without needing special funding.
A good kickstarter campaign has rewards at different levels ranging from quite cheap to WAY expensive, so I personally think it would be good to have both unique, grab-bag ones, and a batch of ones painted production style (maybe in a kickstarter exclusive color?) that would be slightly cheaper, to give more people a chance to donate.
And preferably there should be some smaller rewards, like say special fuzzies or something, so people who want to help out, but don’t have money, can pitch in a couple of bucks and still get something.
I don’t have the time/spoons to help actually run a campaign, but if anybody at Windstone wants to ask me about my experience with kickstarter, I’d be happy to help, btw. All three of my projects were quite small scale, but they were all three successful, which I’m pretty sure is beating the odds, quite a few campaigns fail. π
Thanks. π
Wow, that glow in the dark paint looks awesome !! Good to know its a tad hard to work with though, I may not ever bother getting any then, since its so pricey anyways π
Well, the stuff I got was cheap crap. π If you get something that isn’t a children’s craft set, for $5, you might get something at least slightly better!
(I didn’t buy it for this project, but I had it on hand when I had the idea, so I figured I might as well go ahead and use it.)
December 11, 2014 at 12:35 am in reply to: 96037's PYO Thread ~ New Sushi Cats! Leopard and Jaguar #922864Oh WOW. That kittygriff is amazing! I love the dragon too. I bet they both will be stunning when they’re finished. And I think I commented already that I really like the penguin griff. π The foo is lovely as well. You are a fantastic artist.
