Deepest condolences, Bodine. I know you’ve had a hard time with loss of furbabies this past year. I can only empathize with the pain you’re going through.
Which Enchantica pieces might you sell and will you list them here? I have/had one which I really enjoy, but I haven’t been able to find it since I moved. I was very stressed out, throwing stuff in the truck at night after work and usually forgetting to lock it. Foolish since a nocturnal natured neighbor who knew I had a valuable dragon collection had sticky fingers sometimes. I’m afraid it walked, though I pray I just haven’t come across it yet.
Ugh, people are awful. I’m sorry that happened to you. 🙁
I will post them here in the flea market. I have between 40 and 50 pieces, I think. I started collecting when I was really young with the earliest Spirits of the Crystals. I drifted out of them by 2000/2001 though, in part due to our one local store ceasing to carry them. I’m pretty sure all of my big ones have their COAs, and I have every collector’s club membership + redemption pieces for the years I collected.
I can PM a list of the pieces I have if you like. I definitely know I’m keeping Dromeliad (green tunnel serpent), Furzha (yellow carrier dragon), and some of the Spirits.
August 28, 2018 at 5:26 pm in reply to: Show off your Kickstarter Poads! (WARNING: Picture heavy!) #1542225Well…now we know why you don’t have money for Donatello, drag0nfeathers. Lol. =P
There have been some amazing pieces so far. Scathach you have some wonderful beans. I may be jealous! I especially LOVE the purple-headed one that seems to have light green eyes(?). It’s hard to tell but I love those colors and if they have the seafoamy eyes, omg, grabby hands! XD
DF has a few specials and beans I’m eyeballing too, and I love merrillann white’s emerald-purple bean and the poppy-esque special. Superb!
I don’t really like complaining. I try to avoid it when possible…but after today I just need to be a frumpy-grumpy.
At this point, I think it’s safe for me to say I’m out! Of collecting. For awhile. My car just smacked me with a 2k repair bill and that’s just fixing the necessities; I still have a few other things to be fixed, including replacing the blower motor. Ugh. >_<
I really want one of the rising loaf gbs. Desperately so since they’re adorble. I will be putting up pieces in addition to what I have listed already as possible blind trades from the store. Please don’t hesitate to talk to me about it since this will be my only chance of getting one. I plead! (Expect ads tomorrow at the earliest. Too tired tonight.)
Once I comb over my collection, I will likely be listing more pieces to sell. Possibly some of my Enchantica pieces as well though I don’t have original boxes for them.
Sigh. I just shake my fist at the sky. With everything else on my plate this is the worst possible time for vehicular nonsense! >_<
Sheesh it’s that time again! I’ll find something. I often do dragons as raffle prizes because those seem to be the most popular, with the most entries… but maybe I should mix it up a bit…
I don’t know about most popular, but they ARE the most populous compared to the smaller-sized families of griffins/pegs/unis/kirin. Which means you probably have that many more miscast or fudged dragon pieces on the raffle cart.
There are plenty of peeps on the forum that prefer non-dragons, myself included. If you ever did a flion raffle piece, I think I’d die! It’s my absolute favorite out of all your sculpts…
Wow! He’s fantastic! You can really see the hours put into making him such a pretty beastie. I personally am not 100% sold on the colors in the galaxy but the galaxy itself is very well painted, and I love the python effect that the galaxy’s ‘clouds’ make on his underbelly from throat to tail. Gorgeous all-around!
For first-time PYOs those are nicely done! Frost Melon has a nice balance between the green, the peach, and the white hues. Caustic Shadow is interesting; you blended the colors wells and I really like the shapes you made on his face.
I think my one critique would be that I really like the red you have at the base of his white toe claws (kind of reminds me of acid eating at bone) but you didn’t also do the same to the hand claws or his horns. It would have been an interesting effect. But that’s just my opinion. 🙂
As for advice…it’s rather obvious, but paint what inspires you and don’t be discouraged if it’s doesn’t match what you see in your mind’s eyes. *Most* of my pieces start out with one idea and morph as the painting process goes on. You just have to have fun with it.
Happy Birthday!
I think there are a lot of factors that go into the process of purchasing a pyo.
New releases are definitely a factor. Was a new beloved LP color released? Or a new grab bag? I know a lot of people splurged on the specialness of the Kickstarter and may not have tons of money laying around. Or “life troubles” pop up and savings disappear like water evaporating.
There’s also a great deal of personal preference that goes into whether or not a person will buy a PYO. I loved your latest hippocampus, for example, but I was discontent over the base. To me at least it felt like the animal blended into the base too much and a brown or mossy green base with pink/orange corals would have helped it stand out more. *But* even if the base had been different I likely wouldn’t have bought it just wouldn’t resonate with my collection. Another sticking point for me is eye colors; I can completely love a piece and have it fall short of perfection just due to the wrong eye color. I’ve been dumb in the past buying those ‘near perfect’ pieces expecting to come to love them but never do so nowadays I just don’t. Those are just my personal preferences though and I can’t speak for other people, though I’m sure there are somebodies out there with whom my ideology resonates.
Some people are content simply to adore from afar, too. There are many schemes that I think are amazing but aren’t ones I’d necessarily want to own…
That’s just my two cents about it though.
I don’t know what to think about mine. It’s definitely colors I love (maybe needs a bit green instead of pink?) but it’s not really speaking to me. I wanted a wispier/fluffier pattern unless it was like this but more visceral (jellyfish nervous system kind of crazy hehe). I do like her but I’m definitely open to trades too. Don’t hesitate to shoot me a PM if you like her!
So far I haven’t been impressed with the store Pastel Rainbow dragons, including the curlie that I got earlier this year, though I do like my hatching kinglet from ebay. Rising Spectral is one of my favorite sculpts and when Spectrals and Risers hit the store tonight I got a Riser … Hoping that I like him “in person”!
I liked the ebay variation of pastel rainbow better also, makes me wish i would have bid on the baby dragon.
Thirded. I know they try to vary the color so that the limited production run isn’t the same as the test paint, but flip-flopping the colors just so that it matches the old rainbow more was a poor choice in my opinion. They looked much more pearly with the cooler colors prominent rather than the warmer colors. I would think with the kirin/griffin it wouldn’t make too much of a difference but with the dragons it’s very noticeable.
I can’t say I’ve had that particular problem with Amazon but I have had damaged items come rather frequently. The company has gotten so big they’re basically swimming in “holy crap what do we do” while dealing with TONS of online orders a day. Not that it excuses anything. I once had a big, hardcover artbook that had to be replaced three times just to get one that didn’t come badly damaged (still had some minor damage) due to the skimpy (one bubble packet) padding they put into the box. -_- And just the other day my sister got in a dvd which you could hear rattling inside it’s sealed container; the replacement came with a puncture in the back cover/plastic (and it was pretty obvious that it was a repackaged used dvd not new).
At least I can throw a token comparative experience into the pond to match your recent shipping oddness: I got a phone in the mail on Monday. One I didn’t pay for, and didn’t order. Can anyone say fraud? Took it to the local verizon store only to be told I had to go to a corporate store, which helpfully gave me a return shipping label and a number to call. Tonight I spent almost two and a half hours waiting on the phone only to have the woman who picked up in the fraud department disconnect me. T_T In the words of Homer Simpson: urge to kill, rising. Called back and the customer service lady pushed the process through for me (thankfully). Now I get the added bonus of watching my bank/credit assets like a hawk for awhile as well as having my SSN on fraud alert just in case. Fun times.
Reviving this thread with photos of the newest addition to my collection: the Overcast #1 test paint Lap Dragon!
Congratulations on such an awesome addition to your conga line! Good luck fitting them all into a picture now! ^_^
I adore that kirin. It’s beautifully done!
And I love the detail you put into the foop’s tail. Not colors I’d ever use together but very cute!
Is there a point to an Instagram account if you don’t have a smart phone? Some serious opinions please.
I recently found a program called “Windowed”. It’s a separate browser, 100% free, created by a photography-computer engineering person who got tired of Instragram being butt-ish by only working with mobile stuff. Windowed works by tricking Instagram into thinking it’s a mobile browser and allows you to post pictures from your computer to your Instagram account. You can only use it for Instagram access. I sat down to tinker with it tonight and was able to post a bunch of my pyos to Instagram without issue. You just have to use the + sign at the middle of the bottom of the browser/app to upload pictures NOT the camera icon in the upper left.
