Answering the “What do you do?” question. I guess I would say I am a caregiver. Been doing it since 2000, so 19 years. I had a handicapped, older sister that had Cerebral Palsy & couldn’t walk or talk/communicate in any way. She was a quadriplegic all due to malpractice. She always lived at home with us & my mom took care of her with no outside help. After I was done with high school, I started helping full time with her daily care as my mom was getting older & needed the help. Sadly, on July 14th, 2015 my sister passed from ongoing internal complications she’d been having.
In 2009 my mom was mugged right outside our home & knocked out- which led to multiple health complications for her because of how she fell- which is why it had been harder for her to take care of of my sister. She really damaged her hands badly in how she fell. In 2011 she suffered a heart attack (probably brought on from the mugging incident because that left her very immobile where she was like 75% less active than she had been so it caused her heart to strain). Then she suffered another heart attack in January 2018 & was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes (again brought on by her inactivity from her prior injuries). So now I take care of her full time. I do all the shopping, make the meals, help with all her medications & shots, etc.
I love helping my mom as she was the best mother to me & my sister growing up. She is my best friend & I feel like it is my calling. I am just sad that her health isn’t the best.

Hi, thanks! Yes, I baked it at 425* before broiling them off at the end. I baked mine 20 minutes give or take (10 mins on each side- they were thickly cut- so you would adjust time for that or how hot your oven runs, etc.)- Just cook them through to fork tender.
Indeed, I am grateful for this thread because that is how I keep on top of the raffles since I don’t always get the newsletters. Thank you so much to all that keep this thread going!
My fingers & toes are double crossed especially for this month for that purple dragon beauty since I am dying for a dragon & purple is my favorite color. 🙂
New to this thread, but I’ll add my whines. Kind of annoyed with a neighbor & here’s why. I live with my mom who I take care of due to her having had 2 heart attacks/& being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Our house is heated with only firewood & luckily we got some firewood this summer a week or two ago dumped in our driveway but we are both not in the best shape to get it put away in our shed out back- so we asked a neighbor guy that is always doing yardwork if he’d do it & he said, “Yes, tomorrow.” so we were very happy it’d get done… but it stil is sitting in the driveway many “tomorrows” ago! We asked again to remind him due to it going to sprinkle some rain last week & he said, “Put a tarp on it” so we did & there it sits still! Augh. So idk if he ever will get it done so I guess it’s going to be up to me when I get some strength up. Aye yi yi. I’m not sure my back can take it.
Then also yesterday when my mom & I were out & about we nearly got T-boned in our car by some erratic driver who almost hit us. I saw my life flash before my eyes! I was shakey all day from it!
I’ve 99 more whines but I’ll keep it short to these two above, lol.
I am looking forward to trying to relax this holiday weekend, that is for sure!
