I’m so sorry to hear this. I don’t believe we interacted but there’s nothing in life more painful than losing a loved one. I hope that you and yours will have all the time and space that you need right now to be with your grief.

Regarding her collection and pictures of it, I think I agree with frozendragon. I think most people here are just genuinely curious and would be respectful of your wishes. But I do know that there have been instances of people pressuring others’ to sell when they didn’t want to — perhaps unintentionally, I’m not sure. I would hate for that to happen to you all.

If it ever does come to a point that you do decide you want to part with some of her pieces, I would select the ones you feel confident in selling and only those to picture and post either here and/or on the Facebook group. Also, if you need appraisal because you’re not sure what prices that would be appropriate, I would recommend emailing Susie here at Windstone. She would be an unbiased party and I’m sure she would be happy to help you.

Agreed! I’d settle for any Poad, to be honest!

I was going to do a batch in a winter theme, but then we ran out of the size eyes they needed! It took us so long to resolve that problem it was too late for winter. Maybe this year!
        Though I prefer a fall theme myself…
We haven’t done production poads™ in years. Grabbags are more fun.

I have mixed feelings about grab bags. I think generally speaking they ARE a lot more exciting for everyone, artists and collectors alike, because you get the chance to get something unique. The drawbacks for consumers are that they’re more expensive and extremely high demand so there’s pressure to be watching everywhere for any kind of announcement or email for a link. There’s also the chance of disappointment if you get something you don’t want and want/need to trade with someone else to get something you’d like. It’s probably still a more accessible option for most of us than test paints at this point.

Anyway I’m squeaking for ki-rins. Any new ki-rin colors. Fawn, albino, black gold, quagga, okapi, koi, brimstone, Atlantis, anything. Anything!! They’re my favorite sculpts and I want them more than almost any other.

I see, so the paint should be slightly tacky from the sounds of it? When you’re working with larger pieces (like say a unicorn or dragon) do you try to apply to the whole statue at once, or in stages? Right now I’ve mixed some mica with paints so I can try that application over black as well but I might try to do the actual powder application over a piece with a kitsune I have… my biggest issue I think would be finding a good sealer. They used to be relatively easy to find but the last few times I tried visiting WalMart I couldn’t find any, so I may have to find a Michaels.

Yessss I want more poads. I’ve gotten myself signed up on the waitlist for the ones on the store, so hopefully that helps show it. 🙂

“Has anyone ever had any issues getting an eye of the proper side inside the socket of a PYO? I have a kirin that I painted and I thought that I was being smart leaving the eye out until after I was finished, but now that I’m done I’m finding it really hard to get one of them inside. (One of them went in and is seated tight and well, but this second one…) I’m not sure if the problem is the paint but I definitely didn’t think I painted the layer(s) that thick.”

The glass eyes vary from eye to eye – and the eye sockets may vary too. Eyes may be slightly thicker or thinner than each other, and sockets slightly bigger or smaller. Some eyes have big pupils and some have small ones too. We try to mail off a matched set but its often difficult to tell. Its wise to try them on in the eye sockets before painting so that you can scrape out the socket a bit if the eye feels too snug, or switch the eyes to fit on opposite sides. Paint is also thicker than you might think! A bit of scraping out of the painted eye socket should allow the eye to go in.

If your eyes don’t want to fit in – please contact me and tell me what the problem is, what PYO they are for, the eye color, and provide your name and mailing address – and then I can see about sending you a new pair that will fit your animal better.

To reach me please use email: service@windstoneeditions.com or susie@windstoneeditions.com. The contact us page goes to me as well!

Aw, thank you Ms. Susie, that’s very kind of y’all. Luckily, we were able to get the eyes in. Somehow I had lost the original ones for that PYO a long time ago (part of the reason I didn’t get around to working on it until recently). I had experimented with a different set of Windstone eyes in a different color ordered for a different PYO and they seemed to fit well, unfortunately it just wasn’t the color match I wanted. So really I don’t think it’s the fault of anything on Windstone’s end; most likely it was either the layering of paint (me) or maybe the eyes that I ordered were slightly larger than the 8mm. Either way, everything is good; thank you again so much for offering. 🙂 Windstones has such fabulous customer service.

Sorry to spam but I had a sudden idea and I just can’t help myself. PYO baby kirin, maybe laying down. I know *usually* baby forms aren’t done but I figured since the puppy foos exist, it surely couldn’t hurt to squeak.

The little running critters have been hanging around Melody’s work area for years. They look like they might be kirins.

Oh that really does look like it is a baby ki-rin!!!! auuuuhhhh please I need 20 of them, just an absolute herd of babies. I’m squeaking with all my might here Melody!!! SQUEAK SQUEAK

I want PYO baby kirin too! My golden fish color kirin needs her baby.

                        That would be so cute…

The old Orientals are hard to cast and clean. The sitting one was supposed to fix that issue but it hasn’t been in the store for quite some time. If I had to guess, the clean ones are becoming test paints because it’ll bring in the $$$.

I wish you luck hunting down an Oriental. They are not cheap but some do pop up in the Facebook group.

I did manage to get a sun oriental in ruby. I’m going to post an image of it with a thank you message on the Facebook group tomorrow. But I’m definitely still on the hunt for a moon oriental. I’m sure I’ll get one eventually, but it’ll probably take a while. I want to prioritize ki-rin anyway unless the absolute right oriental dragon comes along.

Also, some sculpts have gone up because they are just not available as production items any more, such as flap cats and oriental dragons. But really, any time at least two people really want an item and are willing to spend a lot of money to get it, the price can go up dramatically. The pool of people to “really want” an item has probably expanded too, with people discovering Windstone on Facebook.

That’s true, the dueling nature of who-wants-it-more is a big contributing factor. I’m glad that Windstone I seeing that kind of success, being a small family business (although admittedly my wallet cries).

The prices shot up dramatically a couple of years ago and have stuck around the 700-1000 range (or even higher for popular figures/colors as can still be seen). I doubt that things will go back to the 2016 era prices but it is nice to think that there’s a chance to get an affordable test paint.

Is it same for the other lines, like the ki-rin and unicorns, or is it just the dragons that have shot up like that?

Everything went up. It was normal for the baby ki-rins to go for 700+. The adult griffin sculpts tended to breach the 1k mark.
Some of the dragon Sculpts have had the most dramatic price increase out of all of them. Not really surprising considering the sheer number of variety of figures that are in the dragon line compared to everything else, plus dragons are super popular in general.

Have the oriental dragons been completely removed from normal production, or are they just sold out?

Guess I’m gonna have to get ready to really bust my buns for new pieces in the future. Or maybe I can find pieces I can part for people would be interested.

I have to commiserate with you guys about heat/humidity problems impeding art. My sister has an airbrush that I want to try using, maybe with colors mixed from mica pigments, but we live in Houston. You’re lucky if it hits 80 overnight, the day is FAR too blazing hot, and even a rain storm just makes it *more* humid and *might* get you down to 85. It won’t be until late October before it’s cool enough and maybe the humidity will drop enough to consider working out there. I really wish there were spaces like studios you could go to that are built for artists to go to (I have lamented similarly about not being able to comfortably do pottery) but I don’t know of any.
