I originally bought some larger brushes, when I first got my supplies for starting PYO’s. Most of these have never been used, as like you, I use mostly small brushes on my Windstones π
Thanks for the tips, seems like Royal and Langnickle are popular π
I did the same thing, hehe, I have brushes from 3 years ago that I haven’t touched, lol π
The biggest thing about the Masters Touch brushes is after a bit of use, the ends start to curl, a small amount of reading up and this seems to be a thing with them, but I’m also paying around $4-$6 a brush, which is a nice price for a brush, and if I’m just needing one specific brush and nothing else, I use Hobby Lobby’s 40% off coupon and get an even better deal! even if it only lasts me through a single PYO, it’s easy to justify π I also use a lot of my old beaten to death brushes (the somewhat larger ones like the size 2 shaders) for brush on varnish, I don’t have a great setup to spray coat so all of my pieces currently are brush on varnish, varnish absolutely destroys my brushes, so I don’t mind at all using the ones with curled edges and whatnot for this purpose, then I’m not destroying a brand new brush..
and a shader style brush with a curl starting on one edge, is super handy when you’re trying to paint up to an edge of a scale, lol! so I even use the brushes failings as an advantage when I can…My itty bitty brushes are both Royal & Langnickel in the “Espresso” line (This is my 20/0 round – The only brand I can find in any stores near me this small) and I have a bunch of Masters Touch brushes, these are my 10/0 shaders and my Tight spot detailer and a few of my larger ones… Mind you, “larger” for me is still quite small – I use a larger brush for adding solid base coats, beyond that the biggest brush to touch a Windstone with me is a size 2 shader.. *usually* a 0 is still too large for my taste…
Both of these I get at Hobby Lobby… now, I don’t know about how well they’ll hold up vs other brands… I haven’t gotten brave and moved on to more expensive brands cause I tend to destroy my brushes, lol…I recently bought a Simply Simmons size 2 chisel blender from Michaels, but I haven’t tried it yet…
I’m one that mixes the pearl-ex into my pigments, I like a glow to my paint than an outright metallic sheen, and I haven’t been brave enough to try to apply pearl-ex dry… I make enough of a mess sometimes when mixing XD but I’m sure some day I’ll give it a try, when I can do it outside on a warm breeze-free day π
When I add it to paint, I keep my clear medium close at hand, cause depending on how much powder goes into my paint, I sometimes get the paint too clumpy (too dry) so I’ll add a lil bit of medium in there to help keep the paint at the consistency I want. My recent wolf has a lot of pearl-ex on her! and I love the look!
I’m glad to bring fond, giggly memories back, and to give a new happy thought to those who have not seen it. I wish I could say I knew of the length this man has touched this world, I only today learned of his photograhy career, and I greatly look forward to learning more about that side of him, and the many sides I missed being a tv/movie fan… I wish it were under much better circumstances that I learned more about who he really was… but I feel it is a path, he will be happy to know many find through this tragedy. The great thing about arts, and the kind of life he lived, is he can and will touch lives, even after he has passed… <3 if we could all be so lucky..
Being a SciFi fan since I was a little girl (Yay for SciFi fan parents! heh) and really being started in the scifi world with Star Trek.. Reading the news broke my heart, as the world has lost a talent that can never be replaced, and a man that I can only imagine meant more than the world to those who knew him personally..
His memory will certainly Live Long and Prosper <3
I would like to share one of my absolute favorite auto commercials ever done. And since it is good to remember a great life lived with a smile… and though my heart is quite heavy, I still can't help but giggle hearing "Spok" get *bleeped*
If ever there was a raffle I’d like to win most, it would be this beauty! He’s beyond amazing!
That Bat Ear is stinkin cute!
Hi Melody!
I was wondering if you were going to be bored in the near future that would entice you to create some tin foil critters… I’m in need of a llama for a friend. She fell in love with my turkey dragon and the other dragon I won but wondered if there were ever any llamas…
I know you’ve done all types but I’ve not seen a llama.
Thanks as always!Oh gosh yes I have done a bunch of llamas. They are easy.
We have haven’t been posting ebay stuff this week because our ebay person is out, but I’ll try and get some together when I get a chance! I intended to do some foil things for the etsy store but never got around to it.
Bored…hahahaDo you even know the meaning of the word “bored”? π hehe
After a super long wait mine finally arrived. I haven’t had the time to take photos yet but he’s the grey one at the front of this photo
Although the grey ones we’rent on my initial want list, I really love him! he looks amazing in person, I am very happy with my grab π his eyes are a really nice matching gold colour. Shall take some photos soon as I can.
As for the posting photos/trading issue. If it’s not for trade, just say so. I’d be surprised if people still PM trade offers when you clearly say the piece is not for trade.
Lucky! π looking forward to seeing more photos! π
Ooh, Kaytana, I love your new wolf. It looks great with the other matching pebbles.
Regarding people not posting their wolves, I think it’s sad if they are not posting simply to avoid trade requests. I’ve never had any problems with simply saying, “I am not interesting in trading” in a post.
Thank you! I was super happy to have a chance to get him! I fell in love with him when I saw photos π and I’m really happy with how well he matches into the collection, when the weather is better (at least sunnier) I’ll get a nice glamor shot of them all together π
I have held back posting photos right away if I was worried someone was going to try to leverage a piece from me while I worked on trading a different one, I sadly did have a trade negotiation blow up in my face once because someone was very unhappy that I wasn’t parting with a piece I had no desire to part with (It was one I worked very hard to get, I still have that piece, I love it!) but once I’m done with trading, I love showing everyone my collection and what I get π I don’t know many people in person who appreciate my collection, so it’s fun to discuss and show off, and see everyone elses.. and though I sometimes do inquire about a piece I’ve seen in a show off thread, I make sure they understand there is no pressure at all, I just figure it doesn’t hurt to ask, cause you never know, what I have to offer they may love moreso than the piece they have, but if they love their piece and don’t want to trade, I will leave it alone π
I do know a lot of people don’t post because they don’t know how to, I know a couple people here post for other people (I don’t mind doing so for anyone)… some people just don’t have the desire to share (Which is ok by me, it’s their right to do what they wish, and if they want to silently collect just for themselves, then good on them) and who knows how many pieces go to non-posting members… I would just feel bad if the decline in posts is from pushy/snotty people, there is a level of respect that goes into all of this, I think it’s ok to ask, but it’s just that, asking.. and if they say no, respect that…
Hm, I don’t think I’d have any issues painting anything along the lines of psychedelic mushroom. However, that said, I myself prefer more natural coloration, so I’m not sure how well I’d like to receive something painted like a psychedelic mushroom.
I personally prefer non-themed swaps. That way I feel the person receiving what I painted has a better chance of liking it.
I second this…
As much as I wouldn’t mind painting a crazy colored creature, I don’t have any desire to own one, and I would hate to risk my tradee feeling bad by not keeping what was painted for me…
I prefer the non themed swaps, as well… Where I can give someone and idea of what I like and see what they come up with from there… and enjoy a more personable touch to what I am painting as well..
That all being said, though I did hope to join the spring swap, it isn’t any skin off my nose if I don’t join this time π People seem to be excited enough for the theme..
It would be a shame if people don’t post because they don’t want to be bothered, I miss the days where the show off threads were booming with pages upon pages of pictures! They’re so fun to look through, I think π
This is a new wolf to the thread π He just came in yesterday (a few days late! lil snot! haha) from a trade π and I am head over heels in love! I was originally going to wait for my second wolf to arrive before posting but I’m too excited about this guy, hehe π It’s a snowy day, so he decided to continue to hang out with the foxies for his photo shoot, hehe
and with my Odd Ball fox π (and a couple matching fennecs chillin on their book in the background! hehe)
With all the wolf excitement it had slipped my mind that these were also coming out. Do you know if they are close to being done? Would love to grab one, I have a lot of variation in my collection but no gothic. I have always wanted one though.
They are being cast. Not sure if we got enough for a batch yet, but I’ll check.
Actually a lil bit of a relief to hear, lol! I’ve been a lil nervous about these guys sneaking out on me and my not being prepared at all!
Mel, if you get bored and wanna fuss with a new pebble… You should absolutely do a Pebble Puffin! π It’s not only ridiculously fun to say, the image in my head is ridiculously adorable!
Yay! I’m so happy for you two! π I’m glad things turned out well in the long run! *hugs* Much love to your newly expanded family! <3
