I’m really sorry about your cat Jinyxy. I can definitely relate to that kind of loss. Maybe if the capybaras do really well the concept you’re describing might be reconsidered. We can hope anyway.

The thing with the castings though that exist in Melody’s office are just that, they are more than likely castings from the old molds. You can’t make a new mold from a gypsum casting. Gypsum castings are what the molds make. The original sculpture they make the molds from is an entirely different material that I believe is baked before a mold gets cast from it. THAT is the missing piece of the puzzle that makes it a lot more difficult to do then it sounds like it would be. I would image at this point wherever THAT key is, it’s probably deteriorated quite a bit and would require a lot of restoration before a new mold could be made off of it. Melody can correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m fairly certain the gypsum statues that you are seeing are of little to no help in the mold making process.

When I was at the factory I remember seeing these up in Melody’s office and I don’t think its “the” mother meerkat but one of the family? Hard to say… that was almost 10 years ago. There were many beautiful pieces there that will sadly probably never make it to mass production. Large wolf, Potter cat, hatching llama, Grand pegasus? (I don’t remember if that was the official name or not) among numerous others. (I’m still waiting for the Lion Kirin someday)

Fantasy creatures are primarily the current focus. Not that there isn’t a niche market for the animals I’m sure. I do remember the mother meerkat is a really big sculpture and that may have a lot to do with it too. Right now Windstone isn’t really even casting Emperors very much (primarily for ebay it seems) and there is undoubtedly a HUGE demand for those judging my current ebay resale prices. Same with Kirins and to a point Unicorns, Flapcats, and Griffins seem to only be released in small batches with the major focus being primarily dragons and grab bags.

Even if the mother meerkat is on the shelf back there that might not be the material a mold would be cast from and if there is a mold in storage it’s probably deteriorated by now. I think they’re made of a latex/rubber sort of material. Pretty sure gypsum is what is poured into the mold, but not what the molds themselves are cast from. I’d also love to see many of Melody’s under loved works in production as well, meerkats included! I’m just not sure if it’s really feasible for them at this time, especially with all the growth and demand we’ve seen the past few years on the Facebook group. It’s all about supply and demand.

If only we could clone Melody! That would solve all our problems! On the other hand, just say the word and set me loose in Windstone’s storage building and I’ll deep dive for buried treasure any time! LOL!

01. Large Bird Winged Flap Cat – Tuxedo – remove old repairs and patch over much of body, back feet, and tail – reattach felt pad
02. Large Bird Winged Flap Cat – Siamese – remove old wing and ear repair and fix it again
03. Small Hatching Baby Pegasus – patch seam where head was reglued and fix chipped ear and wing
04. Emerald Fledgling Dragon – remove old repairs on face, cheek, wing, and hands/feet and fix again

*Box of random odds and ends – grab bag hippocolt (chipped hoof), mouse wizard (chipped hand and ear), grab bag baby uni (chipped collar) hatching pegasus (chipped ear) – already mailed back to Sarah Newman

* Took on a large project where I will be completing 20 repairs! So I will be busy over the next coming month as many of them are pretty extensive, where I will be needing to remove “old repairs” off of some of the pieces. Mostly the reason some people have so many ponycorns is because they arranged blind trades before the ponycorns were released.

The trade is “blind” because the ponycorn is sent directly to Person #1 and she (or he) won’t know which ponycorn is coming as part of the trade.
A blind trade agreement would be canceled if Person #2 isn’t able to buy a ponycorn from the store.

Since blind trades are private arrangements between two people, I don’t think Windstone can do much to control them. I suppose they might insist that a Grab Bag be sent to the person buying it and not to a different person. However, all that would really do (besides make more work for Susie) is add another shipping cost to the trade.

I am a big fan of implementing a 1 per customer 2 per household policy… not that I don’t think it wouldn’t make people still circumvent the policies to get more for themselves but some people getting 6…7…8 “blind trades” is pretty annoying… (and come on… we ALL KNOW they’re not ALL blind trades) I think it’s perfectly reasonable for a 2 per mailing address limit… that way everyone can get ONE blind trade and quit complaining.

Windstone has grown in popularity and though we think Melody is a machine she’s not. I’m pretty sure they pre-plan for practically everyone to sneak a 2nd in one way or another, (blind trade, spouse, family member) but the people getting 6… 8… 10 of the grab bags while others miss out completely or force Melody to make additional ones after the fact is both unfair to her and other customers.
