Huzzah for you! Congratulations!!
Congrats on them! I saw that pair on ebay. You really did get a great deal! Enjoy them. Maybe you’ll have the daddy someday too. I finally got one. He’s worth the wait. 🙂
That’s so true! The Ki-rin family is what made me fall in love with Windstones when I saw them years and years ago.
^_^
These two absolutely precious GB babies that I traded for arrived today, and I’m just beside myself with happiness!
Here’s my little Grab Bag herd… two CandyCorns, two SafariCorns, and two NormyCorns. 😉
And all of my Uni babies. On a cookie sheet! 😀
That Peacock Male repair tutorial is my original tutorial Bible, Drag0n! Reading it gave me the confidence to order some Apoxie Sculpt and start doing some repairs of my own. I’ll always be grateful that you took the trouble to post all those photos and describe your process! It’s been so crazy helpful and lots of busted Windstones have benefited from it. <3
Congratulations on such a big event in your life! I dream of owning a house someday too. I’m so glad you’re getting settled in and loving your new place. 🙂
I think you can sign up for email notifications if your favorite sellers (ie Windstone) put up new items.
You might also be able to filter it so it emails you just when “Blue Ice” items are posted too. Maybe that helps for the future? Sorry you missed it, I hate when that happens to me too. 😛
Finally found the one thing I still wanted. =) Thought you guys might like to see my complete collection of Orange-eyed Emerald dragons! <3
Holy Moly! Those are gorgeous! I like this eye/gem color a little better than the red. 🙂
What a pretty herd! I’m dying to see what was blurred 😉
I’m so glad you still have Dusk. <3 I'd still trade ya just about anything for her!
If it’s a rare piece, and the price for the damaged one is reasonable, I’d say go for it! Depending on what you like in your pieces, you can keep this one forever and be happy you filled out that part of your collection. Or keep it until you can find a mint one, and resell the non-mint one. You’ll have no trouble finding a buyer AND recouping your costs if it’s a consistently in-demand piece, and you didn’t pay out the nose to begin with.
I did the same with my Jade Oriental. I found a busted one and fixed it up. He looked gorgeous on my shelf and made me happy for 2 years. But I didn’t hesitate when I found a mint one for sale. And my original repaired one found a very happy home with another forum member. 🙂
Here’s some things I’ve found consistent in auctions where I have a good experience:
+ Large photos that show more than one angle, and the bottom of sculpt
+ DETAILED description of item, especially if they mention small flaws that can barely be seen in the photos. This shows that the seller has a collector’s eye and is honest about small imperfections. This is a huge indicator that the purchase will go well.
+ Detailed description of how the seller plans to package the item
+ Charges appropriate shipping cost–not too cheap (= item comes broken), not too expensive (= ripoff–dishonest).
+ Has good Feedback from selling other Windstones (or fragile collectibles) already
+ Windstone Forum Member
+ Responds promptly and politely to any questions, and answers completelyAll of these strongly suggest (but never guarantee) that the transaction will go as you hope, and the piece you purchase will arrive safely and as described.
And the Red Flags:
– One camera angle, blurry, or bad lighting
– Hastily written or vague description
– Doesn’t seem to know anything about the piece (desc. is just copypasted from Astral Castle or the Windstone Store)
– Says piece is NBD or mint when photo shows obvious dirt, or small chips
– Misidentified sculpt or color (calls a Young a Fledge, calls an Old Green an Emerald, etc)
– Shipping is far too cheap for the sculpture weight
– Negative feedback, or no feedback from buyers who purchased Windstones/fragile items
– Delayed/no response to questions, rude, or ignores some questions and answers othersThese don’t mean you’re going to have a bad experience per se, but they do mean Buyer Beware. I have purchased Windstones from auctions with a lot of the red flags above, but if the seller is polite and communicates well, it’s sometimes worth the extra trouble. You gotta be prepared to educate people on how to ship these items safely, and to be crystal clear with your expectations as a buyer. Always be extra polite–remember that emails can come off as cold. If they respond with politeness back, I usually go for it. But if they’re rude and the auction displays those flags, the risk is almost never worth it.
Work is so frustrating.
Explaining why is too long and boring, so here’s an illustration:
You clean toilets for a living. You clean a toilet and show it to your boss for his approval.
He goes, “Good start, but you missed a bunch of spots.”
So you clean it again.
Then he goes, “Ok, but there’s this one other spot here and here and here that you missed too.”
So you clean it again. Thoroughly. The thing is freakin’ spotless.
Then he goes, “It looks great, but if I turn on this blacklight and look at it, I can still see a bunch of stuff. You can only see it with the blacklight but it needs to be perfect.”
So you sigh inwardly and go, “Ok, if you’ll just let me use that blacklight so I can see the spots, I’ll get right on it.”
And he goes, “Oh no, I can’t give you the blacklight. Just do your best.”
Oh, and you have a time limit to clean the toilet each time.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGG
I love pet posts! Lovely babies everyone!
I know a little how you feel too. Some days I wonder why I don’t sell most of my collection. Then I can never bring myself to part with even one piece…
Sorry your health’s been less than great, I really hope you feel better soon, or at least feel happier. 🙂 You always have us to talk to!
Mmloda, yours looks like a Tiger and a Zebra ran into each other around a street corner! I love him!
“You got tiger on my zebra!” “Well you got zebra on my tiger!” “Hey wait this is delicious!”
XD
I got the BEST surprise ever last weekend, just now getting a chance to get pics up. I’ve been under a ton of stress lately with work and life, and feeling down. Well, a while back, a fellow I just kiiiiiinda started seeing heard me bumming over missing the GB Unis. Unbeknownst to me, he contacted Susie and got one for me as a gift to cheer me up, and kept it a secret. And unbeknownst to him, a couple days later I ended up being able to mail Susie and get one after all.
So I was all excited that I’d managed to buy one, and then a week after he gave me a familiar little box that contained this:
ZEBRA BABY ZEBRA BABY ZEBRA BABY! @__________@
No one has ever given me a Windstone as a gift, not even my family, hahaha! What a sweetheart. So happy. ^______^
So I’ve wound up with these two lovelies. Unicorn Euphoria!
I started off a few years ago saying I was going to get that Ki-Rin family I always wanted as a kid.
Got a baby…. then what the heck there’s a Dark Oriental Young on ebay I gotta get that one too, maybe I’ll get the Oriental Dragons and get all of the Asian creatures, yeah yeah…. Then I found a mama….. Then eventually a daddy…..
58 pieces later, I think I have to admit I have a problem.
