I agree, it’s high, but considering the detail and what they have been reselling for I don’t think it is unreasonable. I don’t doubt they will sell out at this price. Maybe not as quickly as usual, but they will still sell. The unknown factor is going to make it hard here though. I’m buying one, but if I get one I don’t like it’s going to be a disappointing buy considering the cost. *phew* Now that I ordered one, I have to figure out how to pay for it! LOL!
I’m not saying it’s unreasonable, but it’s significantly higher than I expected, and I was one of the ones considered on the high end when prices were being discussed. Paying $360 when you *know* what that you’re getting what your heart is set on is one thing. Paying $360 for a “surprise” that may not be a happy one is something else entirely. That’s part of why the resold prices are higher.
And as has been mentioned, the point of grab bags was to give those who couldn’t afford eBay prices a chance at something one of a kind. This is definitely out of the reach of many of those who can’t afford the eBay auctions.
It’s not unreasonable, but neither is it aimed at the lower end collectors. That’s fine, if disappointing. While I think they will sell out, I think there’s going to be a lot of very sad fans right now who were hoping they’d finally have a chance to get a Young, only to find that they’re still priced out of the market.
It’s depressing, but I’ll get over it.
Well they’re in the store but I didn’t realize they were so expensive!! Were they always that expensive? I could’ve sworn they were cheaper…maybe this batch is more costly lol. Well, more for other people then, there’s no way I can afford one of those…or even half of one, lol! Good luck everyone
No, a price increase was anticipated, but there’s simply no way I can afford this either. I had budgeted up to $300. At $360, well, that’s just way too high, no matter how badly I’ve wanted a Young.
Guess this is the sign I needed that it’s time to let go of that dream.
Good luck to those of you who can afford one!
Poadie clones.
Nope. Each is unique.
If each poad is “unique”, then how did twindragon1 and twindragon2 end up with identical twin Hot Rod poads? :~
tdm
Like human identicals, there’s the tiniest differences that make them unique? Or maybe they’re the exception that proves the rule. After all, we always thought there were no male poads; now we know to watch out for the useless-seeming ones. 😉
(….needs…some…skittles…please….!)
I have been given the option to buy one and I have decided to go ahead!
Has anyone picked up a Koi yet?Not that I’ve seen, but not everyone is on the forum…and of those who are, not everyone makes theirs public.
WOW!! Jolies she’s BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thanks, drag0n! Yes, she was a lucky catch–I think overall, I have better luck catching the right poads on the first try than unis. LOL This one reminds me a bit of one of Hannah’s, who’s the first poad pictured on the archive page for the last batch. He was def one of my favorites last time, so getting this one is a nice treat.
Speaking of which, I forgot to say: Hannah, please feel free to use pics as you wish, or holler if you need better ones.
Ah, Webs. I miss her already. That rich green with those amazingly blue eyes is just stunning. She’s a little darker than the pics make her out to be, more emerald colored in person.
If only I could have all the poads I wanted…! The house would be overrun though. 😉
Thanks! Wish our little green and blue friend was staying, but alas, she travels with her mom to her new home today. But I am very glad that my three are all so very different from one another.
Poads are addicting. I think they just *might* be even worse than baby unicorns!
Posting a few new pics of mine now that I’ve finally had a chance to take better ones–scrpbkgrl pointed out just how off the color was in my previous ones that were taken while I was sick. That’ll teach me. LOL
And two pics of my small clutter of three–plus a preview of one from this batch that I bought as a gift to a forum member. I’m sure more of that one will be posted soon… 😉 (The two in the middle of the lineup pic are the ones from this class; both can also be seen in the second pic Hannah posted at the start of the thread. They’re about five apart in their row. The other two are from the two previous batches.)
Pics from Blue’s Seattle visit:
First he had to meet the “real” Jolie and Dageus clover-puppy–they’re fellow travel lovers and come with us on all our trips.
Next, he had some fabulous quality time with the Windstones. Allestra naturally loved that he matched her eyes, while my little flame foo pup tried to decide if he was edible:
Then the fuzzies descended. There’s often half a dozen on Allestra anyway, but this time they ALL wanted into the pic!
Outside, the rhodedendrons are in bloom. Blue was a little nervous about all the bees buzzing around. But since blue really isn’t their color, they left him alone while he took a look.
He made his way into the poads’ clutter for a quick discussion.
And we went downtown to watch an afternoon Mariners game. Because I’m still using a walker to get around post-pneumonia, Blue toured the stadium with my husband and scrpbkgrl. Here, he met the memorial statue of our late, beloved announcer Dave Niehaus (heck, he beat me there, I still haven’t seen it in person!).
He helped scrpbkgrl catch the game winning home run.
(OK, not really. 😉 But I’m sure he would have had we had a ball come our way!)
He perched on my shoulder for the game & pronounced the view “excellent”.
And after the win, he posed with the memorabilia from the game, including the MLB app showing the score. Look, he even matches the team colors!
All in all, it’s been a successful visit, though I think he’s hoping for some sun at his next stop–California!
Blue made his way to me a day or so after I left the hospital, so it’s been a bit chaotic here, but he’s kept us all company. He went to a baseball game with us today (my first real day out!) & tomorrow will be flying to California with scrpbkgrl. Pics to follow!
(Although, Susie, I may petition for Blue to come live with us once his journey is done. We won the game in extra innings, breaking an eight game losing streak. Blue’s clearly a good luck charm!) 😉
Aw! Sending healing vibes your way. Didn’t your poad’s bite help in any way? She must be too young…
Judging by the hallucinations, I’m quite certain even baby poad bites are an experience! LOL
*look at all the pwetty poadies…so many colors* 😉
I am quite literally the sickest I’ve been in four years, so these pics are wholly inadequate. But, they’ll have to do until Malibu joins her sisters on my desk for proper portraits:
She calls herself a “sunset summerberry”, and is singing her way through hubby’s Jimmy Buffet collection while investigating the bed. How did I end up with a poad who is a literal Parrothead?!?!
Paint puke, please! 😀 (I still remember the first time I saw that phrase, used for the first Candy Corn batch. And I still laugh every time I see it in print.)
RE: pricing…just one viewpoint here. The last batch of “natural” unis was the first GB in more than a year that I didn’t participate in.
Why?
–I have 6 GBB’s already,
–including one natural (I prefer fantasy types).
–I knew the Youngs were on our radar.
–I fully expect the Youngs’ price to be somewhere between $250-$350.
–and for me personally, $130 for a natural baby wasn’t worth it.Did my decision to FINALLY skip a GB hurt Windstone? Doesn’t appear to have done so. I know others who skipped that batch too. And yet, the release sold out anyway during the usual amount of time, even without the help of some regular buyers.
Do I want to pay $350 for a GBY? Nope. But I’ve been trying for eighteen months to snag one of a handful of fantasy GBY’s that I like on the resale market, and failed to do so for that price. They’ve all gone for more. I’ve tried offering other things up in trade for one & failed that way too. This is my only shot, and I’m keenly aware of that fact.
I had wondered if the market would bear $130 natural GBB’s…it did. I have ZERO doubt about it handling a 90 uni batch of GBY’s at anywhere from $250-350. They will sell out, even with a one per limit. Even if half of the “regulars” around here skip the batch. It’s too rare a commodity, there’s no prospect of new horns, and you can’t easily procure one in that price range any other way. Too many of us have never been able to get our hands on one. And people will buy on impulse when it happens…even some of those who say they won’t. (Hey, I’ve done it. I’m not proud of it, but it’s easy to cave once they’re available!)
I *hope* they’re less–it’s easier to justify. But I’m planning for $350. And I suggest figure that to anyone who’s trying to budget. If you allocate that much, you increase the odds of having enough on hand when the release happens, and if it goes for less, you’ll have a bit extra to play with.
*squeeee!*
Loads and loads of amazing poads! 😀My sister missed her flight, and the trip is cancelled. She had a major panic attack and won’t be able to travel to England. So she is home and safe.
Oh lordy, I remember doing the same thing several times in my early twenties. You couldn’t get me on a plane for love or money in those days. I still hate traveling, but I’m a bit better with it now and have learned how to mostly manage the panic. Events like yesterday can set things off again though. 🙁
Home and safe is all that matters now. HUGE hugs, greyfire. You’ll get through this, and other opportunities WILL appear.
If there’s to be another goof up batch, let it be of the foxes, please!!! The wolf lovers had their turn. 😉
I tend to think the PYO idea makes the most sense though. If there’s no good way to finish them in bulk, let the artists here cope with them one at a time. That way, you’re still making money off of them without wanting to tear your hair out in the process.
