I think some of us will miss out no matter what, especially on afternoon releases, because a lot of people work in places that don’t allow for Internet access (and smartphones don’t always have the speed/signal needed)–I’m not only wanting one for myself, but need to catch one for a friend’s 11 year old daughter’s birthday, because my friend can’t get online from work. Obviously if there’s one release and I miss it, I’ve blown it twice over. If there are two releases and I miss one, guess I go without, because like everyone else, I expect these to go very quickly, and I’m hardly going to deprive my friend’s daughter of her first Windstone no matter how badly I want one of my own.

Unfortunately there’s no way to make things work for everyone, so my vote is for whatever works best on the Windstone side. If that’s one release, two, or ten, do what makes it easiest for you guys.

Me too! I’ve been having _terrible_ luck the last two weeks so I hope I get one of these little guys. 😀

That’s where I’m at too–hoping and pleading for anything other than Wednesday afternoon, when I’ll be away from the computer. But the way my luck’s been, I can pretty much predict that’s exactly when they’ll show up! 🙂

    Congratulations!

Just stunning work–they all look brand new! I bet the owner will be absolutely overjoyed with these.

Ugh, I hope the light bulbs aren’t an issue. That’s mostly what we use around here as well. And I really don’t want to see what happens when copper fades or shifts!

I wonder if some of the difference between the newer hatcher and the older mama is simply a difference in the composition/batch/etc. of the paint itself? Just like with yarn or fabric–where they tell you to buy enough for your whole project at once–I believe there can be differences in paint batches. If those two are years apart in “age”, that might account for a little of the difference. But it obviously doesn’t account for mama’s non lit side being whiter than her display side is.

this was the only thing I could come up with from using old photos I have

LMAOOOOO! This is hilarious. 😀 Now I want to start coming up with Poad costumes!

I bet I’d love this one in a curlie, with a gold eye & globe. But other than that, count me in the “too much black already” category. As has been stated above, with black as the base color, there’s almost none of the shading that to me sets Windstone apart, no highlights, no shadows, nothing other than the gold for details.

And mind you, I love black and purple, especially together. I just think there’s already an awful lot of black-based dragons (production and LP) right now.

Caught up again–and day 15 tried to take out both me and my laptop. All of drag0n’s stories ran down my battery! LOL

I’m so enjoying these Poads! All so very unique!

Lokie–I’m trying not to laugh, because that’s so usually what would happen to me.

She is lovely though, and if you don’t decide to name her “Irony” and keep her, I think you’ll find her a good home with someone who has a color combo you like better.

    Laugh away 😀

I can’t believe you named her. LOL I can’t get rid of her now, being named and all, so I guess Irony will be staying with me =D

Um…I’m not sure whether to say “Congratulations!” or feel guilty! LOL 🙂
(hubby says “both”–he loved both the story and the name)

I got mine a little while ago and I have decided that I want to trade her!

    Photobucket

Oh man, I only WISH I had something to trade for her! Love love love the patterning and colors on this one.

*sighs & reminds self to stay the heck away from this thread–you’d think I’ve had my heart broken over it enough times that I’d know better by now!*

I’m pretty sure most of us use “Science Diet” to cover Hills’ Prescription diet products as well, especially since vets tend to sell the Prescription formulas. But to be fundamentally clear: Both versions use animal byproducts (and sometimes soy) as their primary sources of protein. Byproducts are the lowest grade of protein you’re going to get, including some of the stuff that isn’t suitable for human consumption. I’m not going to gross everyone out by detailing what can be included in that category, but it’s pretty disgusting. Soy is not something your pet would eat as a common source of protein in nature; it’s in there because it’s generally cheaper than meat, not because it’s a ideal substitute for meat.

If I have a sick animal, my primary goal is to make it as healthy as possible. If I have a critter who’s already struggling–he/she doesn’t need to be fighting to get some decent useable protein out of the crap and fillers some brands use. That means no to food that has ingredients that are not human grade, yes to food made with as few preservatives as possible–even if that means I have to buy more often, and preferably organic ingredients only. If I have a well animal, my goal is to keep it that way–which still boils down to the same criteria. Yes, this means my pets do in fact eat better than I do myself. LOL My two feline renal failure patients were both fed on homemade food (with proper supplementation & vet approval) and they thrived on it. But that’s expensive and time consuming, so it isn’t practical for many. Heck, I probably couldn’t do it myself now with my own health. But IIRC, Wysong has a very good food for that, without the issues inherent in Prescription Diet (or at least they used to–if I were dealing with it nowadays, I’d research again to see what’s changed, because companies change hands or suppliers or formulas sometimes)

It takes some digging to find out what you need, but Wampus’ list of brands is exactly where I’d start.

If I lived in a place where my only choices were Friskies quality or SD/PD, obviously I’d buy the Hills. But there are literally half a dozen other brands that do the same thing, with higher quality ingredients that are more easily digestible, and often they’re available for less money per ounce (wet) or per pound (dry). Given that, I just can’t advocate Hills’ products. For those they work well for, I’m glad that’s a viable option that’s working for your pets.

But for a one year old cat that’s already having issues at barely past kittenhood? Over the short term of “let’s get the right kind of food into him right away”, fine, I’d use the smallest size available of whatever the vet suggests, because the goal this minute is to get him on a food that won’t make things worse. But then I’d do the homework of finding a better food that does the same thing. Odds are high that he’ll do better over the long term with a higher quality food than what Hills provides, and if I hunt around, I can probably save money on it too. Win/win, when we’re talking about feeding a specialized food over hopefully the next fifteen years.

Just my .02 worth, after dealing with all sorts of health issues over the years–including while feeding the “supposedly” good Hills products. My pets have needed a lot fewer vet visits since I switched to the *real* high quality brands 10 years ago.

Stephanie, she’s just gorgeous! I think the plus to the poads over the last batch of baby unis was that Melody had a bit broader “canvas” to work with, so to speak. 🙂 Honestly, I want them all–there hasn’t been one yet I wouldn’t mind owning.

And I’m guessing baths don’t apply to SIGNED pieces? Or are you just super careful to keep the pad as dry as possible? *shivers at the thought of ink bleeding* (I’ve actually thought about scotchguarding pads, and then decided I was probably losing my mind…)

I haven’t found a soft cloth I like yet; everything seems to snag just a tiny bit–enough to make me paranoid. Guess I need to go hunting for some super soft brushes. We have plenty of dust (pets) and I’m the type who wants these pieces out to be loved, not hermetically sealed behind glass. But that is going to mean more frequent dusting and probably occasional heavier cleaning. And perhaps skip any more signed pieces. Sigh.

I have a dusty original black bat winged flap cat due to arrive tomorrow, so he may be my first test subject for bathing! LOL

The other issue with SD–especially the kidney/renal/bladder versions–is that a lot of cats don’t seem to find them palatable. You’re already dealing with a sick, stressed out cat, and then it refuses to eat the $40 a bag food the vet “says” is the only thing you can feed it? (or the equally outrageous by comparison canned version…)

Then you add in the convenience factor–those nights when you realize suddenly you forgot to get the food from the vet and now they’re closed. No thanks. Go with something more commonly available locally from a store with hours you can work around. All those Wampus recommended are very good, are readily available at the big chain stores, and are probably both cheaper and healthier than Science Diet.

(As you can guess, not an SD fan either.)

And with two dogs and two cats currently, no one in our house is free-fed either. Part of that is just plain due to the fact that 2 of the 4 would eat themselves sick if we left food down all day, part of it is so they don’t steal the other half’s food–which apparently is always better tasting… 😉

    I got my poad…

I’m not angry or disappointed about which poad I got. Not at all. Its how the grab bag game works. I’m just utterly and completely amused at the situation. Last grab bag swap, I got one of the only few black poads with white cheeks- the only color I absolutely did now want. Guess what I get again? Yup, a black poad with white cheeks! LMAO Come on, Really? REALLY? Life have a sense of humor, all right =P

However, I find the teal detail so exquisite and intricate. I can’t stop looking at it. It’s so clear Melody spent a lot of time on it =) I’ll take new photos later as the light wasn’t cooperating.

I lost track of who asked, but all the poads I’ve seen so far have nail polish; mine has copper to match her cheeks & beak.
