Got a message from Cooper Marie that’s spam.

Yes, CooperMarie sent out a bunch of spam PMs. I flagged that account as a spammer and blacklisted their IP address, which should stop them (for now). Anyone who got a PM from CooperMarie, please just delete it. Thanks for reporting it Madison.

When editing a post, are we able to remove photos as well? I accidentally uploaded 2 of the same photo and I cant see where it can be deleted. The only option I see is inserting it into the content, but no option to remove it.

When you edit a reply (post) you should see a little dropdown menu at the right side of the screen (see screenshot), which gives you the option to delete it.

Ok, here is the latest on the forum speed issue. The forum software developer and I were able to identify the particular bit of code that’s causing the issue. It’s the part that identifies forums/topics/replies that are new since the last time you visited the forum. I have now reactivated the plugin that we’ve been using, but switched off the option to mark things as “new.” So…everything is back the way it has been (posts are back to displaying images inline), and the pages are loading quickly. The only exception is that nothing will be marked as “new” until he issues a bug fix for this problem, which he plans to do sometime next week. Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. Thanks for your patience and your input. Everything should be back to normal in a few days.

I have deactivated the plugin that was causing the forum to be slow. It was responsible for a few important features: quotes, signatures, and attachments (image uploads). For now I have replaced that plugin with others that do the same things. You won’t see any difference in quotes or signatures (except you will once again see the quoted text in your input field, so maybe that’s a plus!). Images will appear as clickable thumbnails at the bottom of your post. I will look for a solution that will give us inline images, but I couldn’t wait any longer to get the forum back to a reasonable speed, so pleas bear with me while I sort that out. In the meantime, page load speeds should be back to normal. Thanks

Hi everyone! John asked me to make a new topic, and here I am…

These are email conversations I have been having with John pasted here so we can continue as a group.

              Quote:

It seems that there is some sort of gross misunderstanding on the forum in the art section, and I will admit that I myself didn’t realize it was a problem to occasionally promote one’s work there! So I wanted to apologize on my behalf for not only posting an occasional promotion of my non-Windstone art (such as my personal art books) but also for not in policing this matter. At this point I think that I need to make a statement… either we need to be strict and have a ‘no advertisement/promotion’ policy, or allow it to an extent. e.g. no competitive selling.. but then you need to be able to define what types of art would be in competition with Windstone. Either way while I agree a firm stance is necessary, it might be within reason to apologize for not being clear with this earlier, as I genuinely do understand some of the forum member’s confusion. While I don’t share their ‘hurt’ sentiment, I can understand why they might feel that way. I know it’s a delicate balance for you guy sometimes to protect yourselves legally while trying to keep collectors happy (and buying) and I’d like to help if I can.

Just as a side note, we should consider making some sort of statement or comment on that situation soon— the longer people speculate, the easier it is for them to make up stories about Windstone being a ‘big bad corporation that only wants to step on the little guys’ which has happened in the past and gotten pretty ugly. You need to make it clear somehow, politely, that the reason you are SO protective of your work is because you AREN’T a big corporation.. you’re a small family run place and if you don’t stick up for yourselves no one will, and you’ll be out of business. Then no one will be happy!

Update: I’ve identified the cause of the main forum page loading slowly. Working now with the forum software developer to get it resolved. Should be fixed soon.

It was quick when I clicked on the link to see your reply, but clicking back to go back to the main forum page takes about 30 seconds and to go to the main forum page from anywhere takes about 30 seconds. Seems like forever though 😆

Im on a Samsung android s10 and tabs3 using chrome on both. I also just updated my s10 to the newest software and it’s still doing it. And my chrome app is updated.

Just wanted to update my status:
I just tried the samsung internet app on my s10 and the forum is smoking fast.

                  Another update:
***Actually once I logged in to my account on the samsung internet app it did the same thing as on chrome app. When I first tried the samsung app, I was not logged in.
Tried logging out on chrome and the forum was super fast. Then I logged back in and it was super slow again.

Thanks for sharing that info. Yes, this is definitely the crux of the issue (being logged in), and as others have stated the forum is loading very fast when not logged in. So…I will be using this info to troubleshoot and hopefully get this resolved soon. Thanks everyone for your input.

HI Clay –I’m using Safari on a MAC laptop at work and it’s loading slowly for me from the main page. It does eventually load after around 40 seconds to a minute. This IS an improvement over yesterday’s load time though.

Thanks for that. If you have any other browser installed, would you mind trying that one and letting me know what happens? I just ran a page performance test (which is a tool provided by our hosting provider), and the forum page actually loaded .19 seconds faster than the last time I tested it, several months ago. Very strange.

The developers of our forum software released an update recently, which I installed on the 12th. Given the timing, it seems like this is probably related to the slowdown. However, I don’t see any reason why the update should have had that effect. Troubleshooting this is likely to take a good bit of trial and error (and therefore some time). I’ll post here when I have more information. As I mentioned before, for me it’s only slow in Safari for Mac, while Firefox and Chrome are loading quite fast, and my iPhone is fast. If anyone else has the chance to compare different browsers, I would appreciate your feedback on that. Thanks for your patience…

This is a bit of a mystery, since the forum software hasn’t been changed/updated real recently. The problem may be specific to certain browsers. In my testing, the main forum page is very slow in Safari for Mac. With Chrome and Firefox it loads quickly, and on my iPhone it loads quickly. I generally find the main forum page quite a bit slower than the other poges, presumably because it has to calculate the topics, posts, and freshness for decades of forum posts (over 450,000 posts!). In the long run the solution is probably to archive parts of the forum, but this is tricky for several reasons, which is why we haven’t done it already. I will investigate this current sluggishness and post here when I have some answers.

Hi Clay, I’ve been trying to renew my classified ads (I’m logged in), and when I click on the link in my emails stating that the ads will expire, the page that comes up says “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page.” Any ideas why? Thank you!

This has been an issue for some people since the Classifieds software was updated a few days ago. I renewed your ads for you and will post here when I get the issue resolved. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Just installed the bug fix for the Classifieds, and the listings count seems to be working now.

Hey Clay – Some Classified listing indications are displayed incorrectly too…. For example, Kelsey has more than 2 listings, but that is what is displayed as her ‘Listings’ number – 2. Kelsey actually has 10 listings total, so something else is going on here.

I think that you are seeing “2” listings for Kelsey (and probably everyone else) because you have two ads in the Classifieds. I see “0” listings for people and that likely reflects the fact that I don’t have any ads.

The bug fix for this was supposed to be released yesterday, but wasn’t. I’ll install it as soon as they publish it.

Yes, the listings count is inaccurate right now (in various ways). Supposedly they will release a bug fix today, but I just checked and it’s not out yet.

The “Classifieds” are working much better. Thank you.
One minor point – when looking at an ad belonging to a member, or when looking at member profiles, the number next to “Listings” is 0, even when the person has some ads in the “Classifieds”. Clicking on the “Listings” link does bring up the current ads created by that person.

Ok, I see now. For admin users the numbers are correct. For normal users the number is “0”, and for users who aren’t logged in at all, it says “131.” Definitely a bug in this latest update—I will contact the developer.

Yes, I see. It appears that users not logged in see the total number of “Classified” ads. I’m still seeing 0 when I am logged in.

I wonder whether I am seeing 0 because I don’t have any ads posted. Does someone who has ads listed also see 0, or do you see the number of current ads that you have posted?

The developer has notified me that a bug fix will be released today. I’ll install it as soon as I can. Stand by…
