Oooh yes! I’d love the castle Aaron has shown and I’d be thrilled with it as a PYO that was hollowed for lights or candles.
I’d be ok without glass in the pond area. Heck it could be used to hold jewelry if people didn’t want to use it as a pond.

He’s beautiful! Box turtles used to migrate thru areas of Colorado but I’ve not seen any in over 30 years now. I miss seeing them.

Box turtles migrate? During the warm weather here in Maryland they will move around but I don’t think of that as migrating. People are good about stopping their cars and helping turtles cross the roads.

Migrate was a poor choice of words.

Western box turtles live on prairies and in deserts, depending on the subspecies. It usually spends its whole life in a small area (less than few acres).
However, if they are relocated they will travel hundreds of miles in a hazardous attempt to return to the area they were born in.

I think the ones I used to see were most likely escapees from owners and trying to return to where they were hatched. I’d usually see them most often in late spring. I’m not sure if they were the prairie or the desert ones.

I have the same one as Tig3r06 for my 2 cats. I’ve used it for 5 years and not had any problems with it as long as you don’t overfill it with litter. It cleans the box about 10-15 minutes after the cat uses it.
As I recall when I first got it I just made sure to trigger it (it has a button on the side to override the starting of it) to run a few times while my cats were watching so they could see it move and hear it. My cats were fascinated by it, lol.
I bought bulk bread bags (like $10.00 for 500) off ebay to use to line the waste bucket but could easily use plastic grocery bags instead.

Speaking as a working vet tech. I can guarantee if the cat is trying to eat you alive at home it will be a LOT worse for the vet.

The vet I work for would suggest you bring the cat in in a live trap so, as already suggested, we could tranquilize her still in the trap.

Trying to get tranquilizer into a cat like that before bringing it in would probably just end up with someone needing stitches.
In Colorado at least we can not just dispense a tranquilizer for something the vet hasn’t seen.

What can be dispensed I doubt would be enough to help your particular cat, she is to sensitive to really get sleepy from a dispensed med.
Animals like her have to much adrenalin going thru their system to allow the drugs to work as intended.

A cat like you are describing will probably not respond to pheromones or rescue remedy enough to do much good for a vet visit, especially in a situation where you are trying to catch her, take her to the vet or for the vet to work on her.
They would probably be helpful once she is at home and relaxed again though.

Some vets will make house calls, however they still need to be able to hold and examine her without anyone getting hurt. It does no good if the vet gets injured and cant examine her (or their next clients) for however long they are to injured to work, and cat bites are some of the worst injuries you can get. A lot require a trip to the ER to be sure they did not manage to bite into or nick a tendon or joint capsule. And all require a full bout of antibiotics.

If you can, my suggestion would be to contact your vet and see if they have a live trap you could borrow if you don’t have one.
Considering her sensitivity I doubt she will go into it willingly and so I suggest a thick old comforter and welding gloves. With the gloves on and the trap standing on end with the trap door open I would corner her in a room and toss the comforter over her and grab her. Try to get a grip on the back of her neck (with the comforter still on her) once you have her in a good grip, carry comforter and cat all to the trap and kind of let her wiggle herself out of the comforter and directly into the trap. Shut the trap door and keep the trap covered with the comforter.
The darkness should help keep her calm. I would keep the cage covered even on the trip to the vets.

I really hope you can get her to a vet and they can figure out what is going on with her.

                            Good luck!

I live in Western Colorado, about 65 miles from the Utah border. It’s high mountain desert here and the last 26 years is been much dryer than it used to be. I just want winter to be normal here again lol.

                              Those tomatoes look scrumptious!

Yes, I’ve tried them inside several years back and they flowered beautifully but never really produced many tomatoes. I know inside I need to brush pollinate them but I didn’t have much time to do that. Now I don’t have space for them inside. I almost couldn’t find room for my 4 new Bantam dragons. I am so out of space!

Outside whether planted directly in the ground or hanging, even hanging on the porch they just dry out faster than I can keep them watered. I’ve even added those moisture holding beads to the soil. That helps some, but then the wind starts up. At 102 when the wind starts it’s basically like standing in front of a blow dryer set on high… for days on end. And thats why lean-to’s and tents dont do well. Once the wind starts the tent would end up either shredded by the wind if it’s tied down or in the next state over. Even heavy duty canvas hay tarps usually only last a year out here.

I literally had all the paint sand blasted off my brand new horse trailer in under a year by the winds and dust out here.
Here you have to own water rights to use the water in the canals or ditches, that’s sold to you when you buy your property, IFFF the land had water rights to begin with and IFFF the original owners wished to sell them.
Where I am at there are no water rights. So no way to irrigate anything. I literally haul all of the water I use. I am 7 miles from the closest water lines. So part of my week has always been to haul water to keep the cistern full and pressurized so I have water to use in the house and to water the few tress that have managed to make it outside. I keep hoping that they’ll start to grow and shade everything, but after 12 years here the tallest shade tree I have is only about 12 foot tall, and they were established before I bought the place.
That’s why I want a decent winter so badly, at least then in the spring everything has some good moisture to get the year started.

Thank you for your suggestions though!
