This Muse had suffered a mishap way back when I FIRST finished putting on her lovely base coats back in July or so. I tried to spray-fix her in hot, humid Missouri weather. Oops, bad idea. The spray fix made her look cloudy and almost grainy, and for a while, I pretty much gave up on her.

September rolled around with its kinder weather, and I felt the need to give her another chance. I cleaned up what messed up paint areas I could find, although in some ways she would never be saved in the fact that she already had a couple spray coats because of my previous attempts (in vain) to de-cloud her finish, and so didn’t have as much sharp detail anymore, but I sprayed her with a final finish on a cool September evening and finally, the cloudiness, and for the most part, the grainess, slipped away.

I accidentally picked TOO bright a morning to take photos of her, but now it’s kind of too late to take photos outdoors because everything’s dead and the winds are crazy here in Missouri now.

She’s intentionally painted in the gaudiest colours I have, for I have a love of bright colours and especially Hawaiian shirts so it seemed to fit that my Muse would be as bright and clashing as I am. Affixed to her are natural African Rhodolite garnets (hence her boring temp name), and in her beak is a feather from my first lovebird, Rhoda, who had passed on back in 2005.

Be gentle. This Muse has been through a lot. XD

Sorry anonymous sculptor of this piece, but if you’re going to sculpt the cheek feathers that way, it’s going to be obvious where you got your *cough*inspiration*cough*cough* from. It was a distinctive style even among all the other Windstone griffins.

    Meh. XP

    EDIT: I hate BBCode.

EDIT 2: URG. Nevermind. I’ll just let it stretch out the page.

MAN! I love all the different details and patterns on this like the patterns on the scales and the feathers! This is so awesome!

My advice on future endevors is to maybe start antiquing. You did a REALLY awesome job with those thin Appel Barrel paints (which I think I need to start looking in to because when I bought some Golden paints my wallet gagged) so the textures are REALLY still well-defined and I bet you can really make the textures POP. It’d be awesome.

EDIT: Oh…looking at the photos again it does look like you antiqued the hair and some of the smaller scales…whatever those are on her head…it looks good! The front looks a little more flat in comparison.

If that’s your first PYO, I can’t WAIT to see future ones!

Barrdwing: He’s AWESOME. Find some sticky two-part Epoxy putty (this stuff dries VERY hard, and you’ll feel it’s VERY sticky once you start mushing it together), maybe some sandpaper if you don’t sculpt the horn or scale perfectly in line with the Emp the first time around, and replacement paint and he’ll be good as new. 😀

I love these threads. I can’t buy a lot of Windstones, so I live through you guys. XD

Heheh, yeah, be careful what you say, a lot of artists I know like to keep dead things around as artistic reference. Like Vantid and our dear Melody. XD

Oh, gosh, poor Melody when she had to pull down that “dinner sculpture” offa Elfwood since so many people were too squeamish!

My mixed griffin family is finally complete. ;_; Thank you emerald!

It only makes sense that someone who comes from a family as mixed as mine as a mixed griffin family like this.

L-R: Skan, Tabitha (Tabby), Keenath, and Zhaneel. Of course the parents have to be Skan and Zhaneel. But the wolf colouration matches the general colours Zhaneel is described as, anyway. 😛

Tabitha got her father’s recessive lutino gene. 😛

Oh, and their name is Unique Gifts…stupid brain forgot.

It is the newer colour! I actually when I first came in confused it for an EmPea it was so bright, but then later the person at the counter told me they had so much trouble moving stock they haven’t even gotten any EmPeas! It was very pretty. 🙂

    Their number is
    (573) 234 – 1110. I’d have to get back to you with the full address. (I just remember it being on Paris Rd. in a shopping center/ strip mall type deal.)

    Helllooooo…

I feel like most of you already have these or can get these cheaper with your mad eBay SKILLZ, but Nam advised me to post the prices of the retireds a local store of mine has. They’re having trouble moving stock.

Unfortunately, I cannot say they ship, and I personally can not act as an in-between buyer. Parents would kill me (I still live under their roof).

    Male dragon: $125
    Mother dragon: $117.50
    Hatching: $41.25
    Fledgling: $68.75

These are all BRAND NEW. Boxes, tags, mint, the whole shebang.

They also have the claw brochure handle if you’re really kinda obsessed with having everything Windstone made. That’s $35.

I’m poor, so I can’t buy them, so maybe you can find someone who wants Windstones in the Mid-Missouri area that would!

And what was the price on the peacocks?

Do you know the answer to this? Also do you know the condition of them?

Okay, here’s the Peacocks. They are all BRAND NEW, boxes, tags, mint condition, etc. I’ll be posting this to the Flea Market, too.

Saydee does! She lives in St. Louis! 😀

I’ve found people always list the retired item I want the most for my griffin collection- the mother griffin gargoyle- in groups. It’s MADDENING! I see one go for above my budget, get my hopes up for another one that is sitting at a drastically low price, and then in the last minutes it shoots up to $100 and above.

Being a poor Windstone collector really, really sucks. I need to make it as a graphic artist so I can really start buying more Windstones. 😛

in reply to: My local store seems confused #607570

    Well, that idea deflated quickly.

They don’t do any sort of shipping. The conversation went straight down from there.

They ARE going to call Windstone, though, to get a new price list and all that good stuff.

If you ever end up passing through or visiting Columbia, Missouri, a trip off the main roads onto Paris Rd will take you to a store called Unique Gifts, which has collectibles including Windstones, pewter fantasy stuff, glass sculptures, and more. Sorry I don’t have the resources to be an an in-between buyer for you guys. My parents would kill me. 😳 I just don’t think they’d understand.

in reply to: My local store seems confused #607568

    Thanks Nam!

I’m going to call them and ask them if they do any sort of shipping. They got at least the main family in Gold, Peacock, Black Gold, and Ruby. And I remember a ruby scratcher quiet well. I really hope they can do some sort of shipping, I really don’t have the resources to act as an in-between (getting your folk’s money, buying items, and shipping them).

Trying to remember if they still have Rainbows. I know for certain they had rainbows before.

Oh well. I’ll call them and see if they ship and if they can give me a price list to post in the Flea Market. Wish me luck!

Pegs> I make my icons in Photoshop and ImageReady. This page is a little collection of all the sprites I did last summer:
http://kiwiberry.critter.net/bitmaps (the links on the side don’t work, this is a new page for my new website.)

I mostly used the following tutorial on DeviantArt. I hope it helps! If it doesn’t, you can also PM me if you really want to learn. 🙂
