Ski> Considering originally only Beastiary artists sell Beastiary cards, maybe Nambroth can sign yours for you. πŸ˜‰ (She did two cards for the deck.)

(Sorry Nam if you have no such inentions! XD)

Okay, I’m glad they know Austrailian Shepherds aren’t Austrailian. That was bugging me, although that calander is awfully neat.

(I own an Aussie shepherd, so I know stuff like that about the breed. XD)

Some of the artists are on this board, y’know…XD (And no, I’m not implying me. :b)

Lady> I dunno, what I’ve heard from other people on the forum about re-painting PYOs hasn’t been good. I dunno how kind that oven cleaner would be to the plaster Windstone uses…(they use a very, very dense and hard plaster, not resin or plastic.) I know getting the paint off regular production Windstones is a pain from some of the folks (SPark?) who tried to remove the paint so they could custom paint them, but I think they were using aceotne or something.

Nirvanacat> Thanks! Dakota especially ended up having an “older”, “rougher” feel upon antiquing that I ended up liking. I wasn’t using the best paints for laying on a smooth coat- I used the old Delta Cermacoats I had on hand from my own sculptures which is kinda thick and probably should’ve been thinned- so I kinda regret I lost what detail the soft-feathered griffs have.

Lady> Ya, I think I bit off more than I could chew with Lindsay (the second one). This is how I potray her myself in full:

Obviously just a tinted pencil sketch, but gives you an idea of what the markings are like. *falls over dead* Don’t choose buetos as your model for your PYOs, folks, unless you’re really good. Or end up like me. ;-9

I concur with the rest. Lady, you are GOOD. The colour transitions are so nice and smooth. The legs on the front one with all the subtleties are really something to behold. πŸ™‚

    Hey folks,

I bet people from the Windstone LiveJournal remember, but I was one of the people who first got the soft-feather prototype griffins basically as an experiment to see how well they can be hand-painted. Nambroth was one of the others, and she showed it was altogether possible. Mine…eeeeh…I kinda wish I had her tutorials back when I did mine. XD I’ve touched mine up by antiquing and such and finally sealed them, so I’m finally going to upload them for Melody and the rest of you to see. (Melody’s seen several versions of them, and has been wondering for a while whether or not I’d upload them to the site.)

Dakota, my main cougar gryphon character. He’s a rather plain coloured character, but I think he turned out best in the end.

Lindsay, his mate, is the gryphon who appears in my profile pic. She’s a ferruginous hawk gryphon. (Dakota’s more based off a golden eagle.) Hence I had lots of pain trying to get the feather markings to work. I’m not happy with the end result, but I have shaky hands and this is the best it’s going to get, I think. :

Please be kind, folks. I didn’t know what the heck I was doing, and paint and I never got along that well. I still don’t regret being a guiena pig for Windstone , though. I did get these for no charge. πŸ˜€ *waits to get killed by jealous Windstoners*

You guys do know that Melody and co are having limited computer time right now, no? XD (Y’know, being away and all, missin’ stuff.)

I wanna know, though, too. πŸ™ I wonder if Nirvanacat is going to come in here smirking like…well, the Cheshire Cat. XD

in reply to: Why collect Windstone? #510610

Same, mostly. Melody’s dragons and gryphons are the most appealing to my picky eye, the gryphons especially. Search “griffin” or “gryphon” on eBay and you will find TONS of ugly gryphons, hideous chicken-necked affairs (and not just because they’re “helradic”.) Melody’s gryphons are pretty much the only gryphons available commercially that actually look plausible and appealing to me. Of course, I really started getting obsessed with the creatures when I found art of them online, by our Nambroth, Vantid, and of course Novawuff, Likeshine, and other artists I can’t think of at the moment, so I like the look of the more “modern” gryphons. Besides, they usually have more anatomically correct wings than older depictions of gryphons. *anatomy stickler*

I also admire Melody’s sculpting skills, and her willingness to get into the more obscure critters such as KiRins and such, not just Western dragons (did I mention I really like Mel’s Eastern dragons more than most depictions you see at Chinese buffets? XD). That, and she’s an awesome person. So yes, Windstone overall is full of win. πŸ˜€

in reply to: Song of the South #510965

Yeah, that’s sorta what I meant- learn from it so you can keep it from happening again. “History repeasts itself” an’ all. πŸ˜€

in reply to: Song of the South #510963

Oh gosh. I love Brad Paisly.

There was all sorts of cartoons, not even just Warner Brothers, that were WWII oriented, Superman duking it out with well, y’know Hilter. There was even a Bugs Bunny cartoon called “Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips”. Sorry to any of you Japanese folk out there! History and all. πŸ˜‰

The Song of the South thing is a lot like people trying to ban Huck Finn or To Kill a Mockingbird (one of my favourite books). HELLO. In Huck Finn, the African Americans, like in SotS are the GOOD guys. It’s the white people that are jerks. In Mockingbird, it’s just showing the way it was back then- Atticus Finch’s kids got heck since their father was defending a black man. And Finch was the good guy of the story, and one of the daughters was the protagonist and narrator. Anyone who wants to ban those books is just completely ignoring just what the frell the actual PLOT to those books are.

Blazing Saddles is one of my favourite Mel Brooks movies, too. It’s hilarious when ABC Family shows it- cutting out all the derogatory terms.

HAY GUESS WHAT. The past happened. You can either hide it, or learn from it. :b

Arrg she made one post to the “Ask Melody” forum and then dissapeared (it was the “fish” topic)…that’s Gruffin for you. XD Maybe if I bug her over email…*plots*

in reply to: Everybody say "hi" to Gruffin! #509771

Wow, I get to welcome a new member? Awesome. But yeah, Gruffin’s my freiiiiiiiiiiiiiend. And an amazing artist. And I’m glad she’s posting now to more places besides DeviantArt. πŸ˜‰

I’d say watch out for the locals, but you’re just as crazy, Gruff. πŸ˜‰
