I don’t think this has been posted yet on this Forum:
painted WIP hippocampus from Melody’s DeviantArt page:
Her comments on him:
“This is a test paint of the “paint your own” hippocampus. I test painted a casting to see what needs to be changed or fixed.Still has a few things that need help, like those little tiny scales near his shoulder, they are too hard to paint, and the base has too much gobbledygook on it. But he’s getting there.”The original page which I’m pretty sure anybody can view. (I don’t have a DA account and I can see it.)

Nah, this one isn’t good enough. I needed to change the horse’s eyes, they are too buggy right now.
I changed the slimy, indistinct looking stuff in the middle of the base, removed the little tiny scales near his shoulder, and a few other minor things. One more version, and he’ll be done. I couldn’t decide whether to leave or remove the ventral fins, so I left them. In this pic the ventral fin is painted the base’s color.Looks good enough to me but I’ll start saving my pennies now for the better version!

Shotzy11, the Griffin and the young unicorn are stunning!
Nice collections!
Kim,AWESOME!!!!
Love the Snow White Unicorns.I have the old whites and love, love them.I need a few of the jet blacks yet but slowly working on it.
Here is a very nice dragon made of pewter that a forum friend,Starbreeze, sent me a few years ago.I have a few other dragons myself though Windstones are unmatched.
Whenever you get tired of your old white grand unicorn just let me know…;)
I haven’t posted on here in a while but I got some pictures of all my poads recently before I sold one of the young ones. I will be selling one more young poad too if anyone is interested. Here they are in natural light and with a flash:
Wow! Love all the colors and details on these. I don’t have any poads yet, this makes me think I might need to start on those one of these days.
What always flabbergasts me is this: Let’s say something is at $200 the whole time until a minute before the auction ends. If I happen to be on when it’s ending I might try and bid near the end to see if I can beat the current bid by a bit if I really want the item and know I have just enough to get it. But then in the last 10 seconds suddenly there might be 2 or more snipers on that both bid their max and the price suddenly goes up to like $500 when I thought I had a chance at winning it for maybe $250. This has happened to me a few times when I thought I had a chance at something the whole time based on the current bid only to be disappointed that it sold for twice as much. This has also happened on items when it was unexpected that something would sell for that much because other similar pieces sold for half the amount. So that is what bugs me. Now if say I bid $250 and then someone sniped it for $255, then I would say well it was over my max and congrats to the other person. But if it sold for $500 I would honestly be ticked I even spent the time watching the auction because if someone thought it was worth that much then why wait until the last 10 seconds to bid that? I also think people often end up paying more that way because if they had bid say $300 early then probably others would have dropped out bidding at the end instead of a few people trying to snipe by bidding a couple hundred dollars more. That is where I think it would be nice for someone to bid their max early so no one else wastes their time watching it at the end.
This is what I think everyone means when they say they felt like it was in the bag so to speak because it seems like there isn’t a lot of interest above what you’re willing to pay and then out of nowhere it jumps to a crazy price in the last few minutes (which by the way is a good example of how sniping doesn’t in any way keep the price down on an item). I prefer to know I have no chance early on.
About 40 miles is the furthest I’ve gone. (That’s how far I live from the Windstone factory. I know, I’m very lucky!)
I would have declared bankruptcy by now if I was that close to the Windstone factory!
Hmcarr10, I don’t know where in FL you are or if she’s still around, but we did have a member- Kalandra- who did repairs and was located somewhere around the Treasure Coast.
Oh ok thanks! I’m in the St. Augustine area so that could be a possibility. I get down there sometimes.
I went about an hour and half each way for a lap without a box…though bad me didn’t eat first, I was a little loopy when I got there, just want to go out and eat once I got there….
Hope you got to eat somewhere good! I just stopped at McDonalds in the afternoon on the way back, bleh!
^Cute foxes!
And haha, I have a Windstone named Gandalf too. My silver old warrior is Gandalf and my white emperor is Saruman. Lol.Love the names! I named my Blue Mink Ragdoll kitty Gandalf – he doesn’t deserve the name though, he’s a whiny little jerk haha.
Ha I knew I wasn’t the only crazy one. I’d totally drive them for repairs too if there was someone close enough. Very true – almost anywhere in FL you can easily turn into a side trip to the beach or something else cool!
I almost only collect the dragons, and the only ones that I have 2 of are curlies. Obviously my collection isn’t particularly big compared to many. I don’t have a ton of space or money, so I figure why buy multiple ones of the same sculpt? I try to get a different sculpt & color each time. 😀
I tried to follow that rule when I first really got into collecting these but it didn’t last long. I’ve always been an obsessive collector my whole life (had all of the Carnegie Collection dinosaurs, tons of Breyer horses, hundreds of TY beanie babies etc when I was a kid). The collecting disease never goes away it seems!
Thanks! Just picked them up, headed back home now. The OW is perfect but the Ruby Lap had some issues 🙁 Got another $40 off of her price, hopefully she can be fixed up
I drove to Edmonton from Calgary to pick up a few pieces from a seller a couple years ago. It was 300 km (186 miles) and took 3 hours to drive there and then 3 hours back. So it was 600 km (372 miles) and 6 hours driving total round trip. That seems like a lot but I got at least 10 pieces I wanted.
Wow! 10! Totally worth it. I bought one of the dragons I’m picking up today (Ruby Lap) previously from a different seller but she broke it when she was boxing it up so now I found another I’m getting her myself! Will also be getting a Black Violet Peacock Old Warrior for $130 below store price. It’s a beautiful day and I have lots of good music to accompany me on my drive 🙂
I actually much prefer last minute bidders – it saves everyone money because people aren’t going back and forth one upping each other in a pissing contest . Bottom line – bid as high as you’re willing to pay – if the other person gets it, they get it. If you would have paid more, no one is stopping you from bidding more. I don’t agree with calling someone “sneaky” because they were willing to pay more than another bidder.
This is how I feel, too; last-minute bids just seem more efficient to me! After all, there’s nothing stopping eighteen different people from putting in a last-minute bid; Ebay will sort out whose bid is highest, saving everybody from having to inch the price up bit by bit and maybe get caught up and swept into bidding more than they’d planned. It also means you don’t have to check on your bid every single day and keep re-bidding (or bite your nails hoping somebody hasn’t pushed it up past your maximum amount and now you have to watch the auction go on for days while knowing you can’t have it).
*shrug* I don’t do well with tension, I guess! I just want to make my max offer and find out immediately if I’m going to get a dragon or not, so I don’t have to suffer. 🙂 (I ended up not even bidding on the Lap Dragon I wanted on Ebay last week, because I waited till the last minute and by the time I was ready to put in a bid, it’d gone higher than I could go. So I was disappointed I didn’t get it, but I didn’t have to angst over it for four days, at least!)
Ooh what Lap Dragon was that?
The “Water Sprite” test paint Lap Dragon! *wistful sigh* I yearned after her for days! And then I actually ended up missing the end of the auction by about ten minutes, but as the closing price was higher than my max would’ve been (by about, uh, $40-50, wow!) I wouldn’t have won anyway.
I figured it was her. Your wallet must have been happy at least! I really wanted her too but I didn’t even bother trying to get into the bidding because there are still production pieces I want so I’m not ready yet to pay double or more for special items.
