Maybe you should say “Oh, they just sit around and smoke …”
I have been watching the RF Sitting Spectrals and Risers in the store and the number available is going up  I don’t know if more are turning up as boxes are unpacked at the new factory, or if stores are returning unsold stock, or what!

That’s a great point! It’s almost like our society missed out on a lot of that… and its too wrapped up in the here and now to focus on mythology and fantasy of the past.
I would suggest that the West is the American mythology (or fantasy), especially the Noble Indian and heroic cowboy, and that this accounts for the popularity of Western art. Fantasy as exemplified by dragons, faeries, unicorns, etc. is an European/Asian artifact. Just out of curiosity, what happens if someone marries fantasy with the West by painting Sasquatch, a dragon as “Spirit of the Badlands”, unicorns among the redwoods, or something like that?
At the moment in the store there are 14 phoenixes, 17 unicorns (I think) and 7 dragons. Jackpot! 🙂
November 16, 2010 at 1:25 am in reply to: Is this really a Windstone? (see answer eBayer – new post) #831679The “possible Windstone” information was in the original listing. It sounds to me like somebody who doesn’t know what he has and is making some guesses. He would expect people who do know about Windstones to know if the crocodile is or is not a Windstone, and whether or not they want to bid. Not an unusual way for an ebay seller to approach a “mystery piece”.
I never even noticed that the “official” Windstone auction photos all have black backgrounds. I can identify the “official” listings by title syntax, but I look at the titles first and the photos second. Since the idea is to get as much money as possible (isn’t it?), I think the background should be whatever shows the piece to the best advantage.
Hieronymus Bosch, or is that a different type of fantasy?
I saw a very clever pumpkin-with-stem design this year. It was very cute. The maker carved eyes and a mouth at the stem end of the pumpkin and had the long curving stem as the nose. Sort of a Pinocchio effect, at least in the daytime. I didn’t see it lit so don’t know if it worked after dark.

They must have added still more phoenixes. There are 11 in the store at the moment (and 4 dragons).

I voted nope, but only because I like to start buying presents early whenever possible- sometimes right after Christmas.I also can remember when the displays went up after Thanksgiving. We would visit my grandmother in Chicago and the day after Thanksgiving we could go downtown and see the big department store window displays. (I’m also old enough to remember downtown department stores that filled the whole city block). I suppose the staff worked all night to set up the elaborate animated scenes! Of course, this was in the 1950s …
You could try Gaylord Brothers (http://www.gaylord.com). They have a variety of display options.
My sister and I went and voted this afternoon. 🙂 It looked like there was a steady stream of people coming in to the polling place.
I just discovered that Jennifer has a whole description of how to add a photo in the “Welcome” area. Thanks! Maybe someday I will be brave enough to try it.
