I’m looking at the store page and can’t decide whether to buy or not.
I don’t collect poads, but I know that there are some rabid poad collectors here who might be happy to trade other Windstones for more GB poads, so I’m considering buying one for trading purposes. Plus, they are pretty neat. 🙂
I guess I’m trying to gauge interest to see if I should get one.
I have a couple of young unicorns I would be willing to trade (1 unicorn for 1 poad) but I am away fow a few weeks so the trade couldn’t happen until around St. Patrick’s Day.
I understand both points of view–but realistically, most of us aren’t ever going to be able to afford everything we want in life. The world is unfair that way. This may very well be my last GB, because I simply have to prioritize my money differently with other things going on. Should Melody’s business suffer because *I* can’t afford what she makes? Should her work be devalued because *I* no longer have the freedom to spend on a luxury? And let’s face it, these ARE a luxury. It’s not like I can feed my pets or pay my mortgage with the lap dragon on my desk–and in fact, if I don’t plan appropriately, I could easily be unable to do either of those things because I overspent all my cash on Windstones. I’m in the “comfortable but not independently wealthy” category, and I’d wager quite a few of us here are the same. We’re never going to have the massive collections that some do. And sometimes we’re either going to have to choose between missing out on things because they’re not in our price range, or sacrifice something else to make it happen if it’s something that’s truly important to us.
Many many many hours (not just Melody’s) and plenty of materials (that never go down in price, and typically go up) go into producing these things. While yes, it will suck for me personally not to be able to play GB roulette every release, and buy every LP in the store, etc., when you’re in the business of producing a non-necessity of life, basing your pricing on those who can afford it the least is no way to run a business. And frankly, the early grab bags–which I was not around to take advantage of–were pretty dramatically underpriced in my opinion. Look at the prices they command now on the secondary market–and that “profit” people are making doesn’t always end up spent on more Windstones, so that’s not profit to the business or the artist–and tell me honestly how the prices originally charged were fair. Those of you who were able to get in on those should count yourselves very lucky.
Now, if it comes to a point where a GB doesn’t sell out on the first day, perhaps that’s a sign the price is too high. But I suspect the price would have to get a fair bit higher before that happens.
Just my .02 worth…which nowadays is pretty much worthless. 😉
I think this is worth much more than .02. I agree completely with what you wrote but could never have stated it so well.
The gb poads are HERE!
Thank you for posting. I didn’t think they would be out so was just checking the forum for today’s quest clue and noticed the new posts.
Thank you for letting us know ahead of time. They are completely gorgeous! The colors are great and the designs are spectacular.
Thank you for the update!
The “access denied” threads are threads in purgatory.
Thanks for the explanation. For some reason this totally cracked me up. Does anyone remember The Muppet Show and The Pigs in Space….. skits? When I read this all I could picture was the announcer saying Threads in Purgatory…… 😀
That sounds terrifying! I am very glad you and your friends are ok.
well i’m still looking, I think i’ve either passed over it or have had terrible luck, but I too am getting a lot of ‘access denied’ threads
Can someone send me a link to the access denied thread? (Just an example one). I want to see if I can figure out what’s happening.
I’m starting to feel like this quest is really, “beta testing Windstone’s search function!” LOL
I can’t paste with my iPad but if someone hasn’t done so already the thread I was denied access to was the “hello” thread on the fifth page of the search results. Probably not very helpful but just in case…I know you had posted that your search results were different from other people’s so I had wondered if maybe the actual threads might be blocked for different people. But that doesn’t seem to be the case. Maybe it is really old threads that have access denied? Or threads that were locked for some reason?
Thanks for looking into it.And this quest is really improving my search ability – I had pretty much stopped using it because I never found what I was looking for but I will use it in the future. So great idea for a quest!
I don’t know ANYTHING about the access denied thing 🙁 I don’t check all the search results, just the one I’m putting the picture in.
As a general guideline, in a multi-page thread, I would never put anything further than 4 pages in. So if one of the threads in the results has more than 4 pages, you’re safe to only check the first 4.
Thank you! Both for being kind enough not to torture us too much and for letting us know the hint.
Digging is right! This one was pretty tricky. Also led me to a blast from the past. Stumbled onto a thread with tatt2girl. I had forgotten the drama. But I love today’s picture.
Ok, today’s hint is much harder. One thread that looked promising wouldn’t let me access it. There was an access denied or some similar message. Any chance I’m getting a glitch for some reason?
OMG, if these are the ones I’m thinking of, boy oh boy! I read them in an instant, I was so absorbed! I can’t wait for it! But I can wait for the final version, though. 🙂
I hope they are the ones you are thinking of. For me there is no beating the feeling of finding a new book by a favorite author. But you are a better person than I am – I have NOPatience when it comes to new books. If I can get one early (ie buying an ARC off eBay) I do it.
When the white cats hit the store it said there were two in stock. I don’t know if that was accurate but it is what I saw. I think the orange and white lady cat, who is gorgeous, started with 29. I don’t remember how many of the orange fat cats there were but it was definitely much fewer, maybe 18? Not sure.
Thanks for the pictures, Pam!
