“My boy isn’t dead,” Luellen said in a whisper with her hands gripping the back of one of the kitchen chairs tight. The conviction in her voice was so fierce that it snapped Zephyr’s attention into focus on her. The air wavered behind her left shoulder and Julienne appeared staring at her with an odd expression on her face. “I know my boy isn’t dead. I don’t care what they say… I can feel it. Everyone else may have forgotten about him, the whole world might have gone crazy, but I know I have a son, and my baby boy isn’t dead. Someone took him from me, and I want him back!” Julienne shivered and hugged her stomach. Even James had turned to watch as Luellen’s voice had risen and gotten shrill. Zephyr could almost feel the presence in the house shift like a sleeping hulk that had been agitated by a poke with a sharp stick, and he tried to swallow through the tightness in his throat.

-J R R TolkienJJ blinked out of sight in Zephyr’s rear view mirror, giving him enough warning to brace himself on the door before the car suddenly slammed hard on the brakes all on it’s own. They were both thrown forward with bruising force, James’s foot scrambling at the pedals to no avail. The radio flipped on by itself and the knob spun all the way up so that the speakers were blasting white noise, but a whisper scratched out of the radio over the loud hiss of static.
“Who should shut the *BEEEP* up?”
The car rattled and shuddered before dying completely. Another car blared it’s horn as it careened around them out in the street.pro tip: Insulting ghosts while you’re driving can be hazardous to your health. censored for sensitive souls.

-J R R TolkienI know, it’s hard to remember that sometimes… And other times it’s too depressing to think that this awesome subplot I’m writing isn’t actually that awesome or pertinent and will have to be cut later. XD Oh well! I got my word count really easy and quick today! Hooray! And Eben (my hubby) says he thinks he’ll finish the second draft of the first book this weekend. Woot!

That convention looked like tons of fun. I miss going to the anime convention we have down here!

-J R R TolkienI’ve lost so many things in our various moves… My nintnedo DS, a Windstone gothic unicorn and one of my favorite stuffed animals were the most tragic victims of the last one… how does it happen?!? ;_;

-J R R TolkienI’m sure we’ll be happy for beta readers at some point!! What I’m not sure about is how sensitive you girls (and guys) are to the sort of material we’re writing. 😉 It gets pretty naughty at points, and is pretty dark all around. But if anyone is interested in that, do let me know!
Augh, I got the flu over the weekend and missed two days! D: …which isn’t all that tragic as I had a big enough buffer in my word count to cover it, but now I have NO buffer and that makes me nervous. Well, I usually go over, so hopefully I’ll make it up…
Got to write a haunted bathroom today. Fun! ^_^

-J R R TolkienIn response to everyone who said they didn’t like the young dragon much but enjoyed him in this color – I have to say that I sort of agree! XD Not so much that I think the color flatters him (though I do actually really like it – especially his snakey tail) as much as actually painting one let me get really well aquainted with the sculpt. This happens a lot. Painting one of these is really the best way to appreciate the detail and study of anatomy that Melody puts into her work. I never liked the young dragon, and painting him took way too long for us to be great friends, but I certainly do like bits of him now a lot better than I did before I started. He’s got some really fun scale patterning!

… patience… 😉
NicoleH wrote:I never liked brown in general until now 😮 I’m loving this color so much. It looks really natural in my eyes. Keep up the good work! It would be cool to see a whole set of dragons in this color but boy what a process that would be for you 😀
Thanks – and I am working on it. I took a few days off, but I’m trying to decide whether to start the curlie or the adult male next.
dragonmedley wrote:I love this scheme, but I’m wondering if a PYO dragon wouldn’t show it off better, especially on the throat area. The young dragon is more “compact” there.
I was staring at the PYOs in my cabinet the day I finished the young dragon thinking the same thing. I probably will do one, the only thing holding me back at the moment is how long it would take and how little it would probably go for! The thing about the little pieces, like the young dragon and the PYO, is that they’re harder to paint and often take proportionately longer to paint, but fetch less money because they’re small. 🙁
pipsxlch wrote:WOW! I haven’t been able to be around for awhile, but Arlla, your dragons are stunning! You need to make some eBay ones, is this young blemished? Could he be? (wouldn’t be able to bid myself, but I think he’d go for an amazing amount!)
P.S. I love the speckled eggs! And the little blue girl, too bad you can’t use those eyes for ‘sale’ pieces! Thanks! He is in fact an ebay piece, so long as he passes muster with John and Melody when they see him. And believe me I feel the same way about those eyes! I just hope I get my hands on some of Melody’s special new sparkly eyes…

aww, that muse is cute!

-J R R TolkienI finished the young dragon in the copper cowry color yesterday – boy this little guy was demanding!! The little pieces are always harder than the big ones, but I mean jeez… I think a big part of it was that serpentine coiled tail. There’s a lot of anatomy and detail packed onto that little body. The shine on the gloss makes it a little tough to see in the photos, but he does have striping all the way down his tail, and there’s quite a bit of copper shimmer down his back and color on his wing feathers that also don’t show up well via photograph.

Let John know. Not only are they breaking the law, but they aren’t selling handmade items (or supplies to make things) on Etsy which is against their rules too!
They say they are hand cast in their description– if that is the case they are the direct sellers of the infringing material and John can go after them! Will do

-J R R TolkienI cringe at the thought of painting the OW blue… I think it would look absolutely grand, but it would take SO LONG. that blue is really hard to work with. I think it’s an opacity thing. It requires a lot more coats than other colors. Silver is the same way. Myself, I think I’d like to do the OW in that blue color, but the blue got mixed reviews so maybe another day.

-J R R Tolkienskigod377 wrote:I want a chance to buy them, so I hope they will go up for auction, even with their flaws. 🙂
So long as the copper cowry ones reach the factory alright, they should go up for sale. There’s nothing wrong with them. It’s the blue one, Elanore, that definitely won’t be sold!
I’m working on a young dragon in the cowry color right now… he’s going slowly though. I keep getting interrupted! I should be able to send the two royal hatches, the young and the small hatching dragon out to the factory together. Then I’ll be working on the mother and father dragon.
Alas, no hatching kinglet or emperor to match the set.I’ve got one old warrior… Do you guys want to see him in this Cowry color, or should I save him for something else??
