Personally, I would say don’t include paint with the PYO if you sell them in stores…people don’t want to be limited to whatever pallet of colors you end up including, and you would probably only be able to include those little strings of tiny paint tubs that come with paint-by-number kits if you did include paint, and that would a.) be kind of tacky and b.) probably be much lower quality paint than you want to paint these guys with. Plus, if you include paint that would just raise the cost, for you and the buyer, and that might discourage sales…
As for a little pamphlet to go with them – what about the tutorial on the website? Just print that up in a nice looking foldy piece of glossy paper and you’ve got a proffesional insert. I thought it was a great write-up on how to start painting these guys."He that breaks a thing to find out what it is has left the path of wisdom."

*nods* I can see that makes sense, and I recall you saying it. But I can’t imagine somebody returning a statue because they’d touched it and the paint won’t stick. I mean… I really do handle mine a fair bit, and have never had any troubles getting the paint to stick.
Yeah, I touch mine a whole bunch, too. I try to keep my hands clean, of course, but I still do a lot of touching…I have one particular PYO dragon that I touched pretty much all day, carrying it around, and with semi-dusty hands, too…I’m a little worried about that one, but hopefully I’ll manage! ^_^

-J R R TolkienMmmph. We’ve been listening to the book (on tape) for a couple weeks before we go to bed. It was okay, but at this point not worth finishing. It’s tough listening to it with a writer, too! 😉 My fiance has nothing nice to say about it, but I just tell him that this kid is published and he’s not!
There was ONE original moment that I liked a lot in the book where they all get caught in a windstorm and Saphira almost gets blown away because her wings are acting like sails and she can’t pull them in…Eragon has to jump on her and push her wings folded. That seemed cool, and was something I hadn’t heard before.
Saphira as a character in the book seems like a real B***H! She just seems snippy and possesive and a little skitzo. I liked her a lot better in the movie. Plus she was voiced by a hottie actress that I like! ^_^
I was really looking forward to the movie, even though we didn’t really like the book…I’ve been starved for a good fantasy movie, especially one with DRAGONS! And I have to admit, Saphira was very beautiful and SUPER CUTE as a baby!! And I liked the “boss fight” at the end – that was pretty cool. The rest of the movie was big let down for me, though…
And yes, when it wasn’t bad LOTR, it was bad Star Wars.
(I think they stayed away from the elves and dwarves so that they weren’t TOO close to LOTR…that’s my theory anyway. Love-intrest did sort of smack of Arwen as it was.)

-J R R Tolkienaccording to some of the litereature I’ve read, you don’t need to remove the paint from the horse…and others say you absolutely have to! LOL! I did on mine – soaked it in a container of bleach and water, 1 week for one side of the horse, turned it over and another week for the other side. Paint came right off with a light scrubbing with a sponge. You might want to sand it to help the clay and paint get a grip on the surface, too. And it’s always nicer to have a CM with the seams and logos sanded off of it.

I dunno, Cheryl – you better get that credit card ready! I saw it when I visited (held it in my hands – he’s GORGEOUS) and it was sitting there with a few other things on the “going on ebay” table…
Though if you decide you can’t or won’t get it, you HAVE to promise to tell the rest of us so we can try for it without feeling horribly guilty about stealing it away from you! 😈"He that breaks a thing to find out what it is has left the path of wisdom."
-J R R Tolkienlittleironhorse wrote:I believe that “prototype” refers to the that sculpt of the OW, with more battle scars and head touching the wings. Melody changed the sculpt a bit before putting in in regular production, but she’s been re-painting all the old prototypes in all those lovely new test colors.
The Autumn Leaf OW was actually a OOAK Special Edition, as opposed to the limited editions like the gold lap or fledgling and those new browns that are sold direct.
But does that mean it can never be done on the regular non-prototype OWs?? I know it was OOAK, but it WAS a prototype OW, right? So it still wouldn’t be the same if she painted the regular OW in autumn leaf…I mean, that’s the logic behind the limited editions still having a chance to be limited production…right?

Well, I have to admit, when I was there I was so completely overwhelmed by everything that I didn’t get much of a chance to really look at anything with any concentration! But I don’t remember being wowed by her….
I missed you, by the way! Sorry I didn’t get to meet you – I saw some of your pretty pictures, though! Do you sell prints, because I love that clockwork hummingbird even more having seen it in person…(and was it you that did the star gaurdian of small dogs?? I forget it’s actual name….if it WAS you, I’d love a print of that too, to gaurd my ickle canine. ^_^ )"He that breaks a thing to find out what it is has left the path of wisdom."

Blasphemy!
You haven’t seen the trashcans around here. >:}
I have!! There was a sad little dragon head just sort of perched in one…it was horrible! 😯 tiny little dragon carcasses just tossed in there without any reverence…I’ll have nightmares for weeks!

-J R R TolkienI saw the mother dragon Melody was working on in autumn leaf – It really works on the old warrior, but I don’t know how good it would look on the rest of the family. I think it would probably be quite pretty on the emperor and the lap dragon maybe…and of course, the old warrior sports it beautifully. But truth be told, it really didn’t look to spectacular on the mother draogn…I do hope she figures it out, though, as it is a really beautiful color pattern.

*sigh of relief* I’m just happy it lives up to it’s pictures when you see it in person. Better than the last griffin I sent you, eh??? 😈"He that breaks a thing to find out what it is has left the path of wisdom."

-J R R TolkienFallen Leaves (http://fallen-leaves.net/index.php) Is a really great forum with a customizing and a sculpting forum – when I was a newbie there they were really nice to me, and many of them can be VERY helpful with critiquing and suggesting handy tips.
I’m not sure what clay you’re using, but all I ever hear about is Apoxie-sculpt and other things like it. They are expoxy clays that harden to resin strength in a matter of hours. You have to be quickish when you work with it, and I personally hate the texture and workability of the stuff, but it means you don’t have to try to bake your horse when you’re done with the customization like you would with sculpy. You can sand it and drill it after it sets, too. Apoxie-sculpt is what I used on my quagga, both for sculpting the new mane and tail and for sticking his body parts back on. ^_^ I cheated and didn’t use any pins or anything like that…but it worked out alright.
A dremel is a really handy tool to have for customization work…helps cut through bits of hors and sand rough spots and carve out hooves and ears…very handy.
