I’m sorry.
I’m not 100% sure I’m interpreting what you’re saying correctly, but it sounds like basically: “people should be able to disagree with a business decision without being made to feel like they want to hurt the company”.
I don’t think that’s anyone’s goal (to make you feel bad).
My point is, and will continue to be, that Windstone needs to do with Windstone needs to do to stay in business and I’m always going to 100% support their right to make decisions that enable the company to keep going.
It doesn’t mean I’ll always agree with or like the decisions – BUT, I will try to understand and accept them.
Hi Kiya, Your interpretation is spot on.
Thank you for clearing that up! Mentions of selfishness were slung around more than I thought… proportionate to directly requested opinions, and I sat on my hands several days before posting again.
I agree completely that Windstone needs to do what it needs to do to stay in business, and their right to make decisions in order to stay in business, should be respected. (whether or not I agree with those decisions)
So with the air cleared there, the main disagreement running through the thread seems to be the level of agreement or disagreement with the proposal in the first post. Which on the bright side, is near unavoidable in an opinion thread.
So for the sake of raising funds, (and seeing if there’s a alternative method a bit more agreeable), here’s a rehash of the ideas I’ve seen. Apologies if I’ve missed someones thoughts.
Auctioning off 5 Unicorns to be Handpicked by Auction winners
Advantages: Unicorns already made/minimal labor. Gets big spenders involved.
Disadvantages: Removes 5 of the more unusual/desirable from batch, reduces luck/chance factor appealing to financial lightweights who find Ebay/special items section cost-prohibitive.Auctioning off 5 Randomly chosen unicorns (with individual pictures)
Advantages: Unicorns already made/minimal labor. Maintains luck/chance factor of GB.
Disadvantages: Removes 5 from batch, and is less interesting for big spenders, meaning less profit.Showing class photo, seeing which ones people flip for, then painting/auctioning bigger unicorns in that color scheme, which are then Ebay auctioned/sold in special items section.
Advantages: Exciting, Gets big spenders involved. Maintains GBs as-is
Disadvantages: Work of creating bigger unicorns, potentially unknown levels of chaos.Auctioning/selling ‘custom’ unicorns or Poads which match GB’s people already have.
Advantages: Gets big spenders involved, Maintains GB’s as-is
Disadvantages: Need to be made, potential aggravation for Melody.Raising price of GB’s
Advantages: Fair for Windstone, partially offsetting GB aggravation
Disadvantages: Possibly cost-prohibitive for those on budgets.Selling ‘rescue’ Windstones
Advantages: Already made, advantageous for those on budgets, and people like rescues. Skirts the GB issue entirely.
Disadvantages: Labor of individually listing damaged critters, concern of getting mixed up with regular Windstones on secondary market, unless well marked somehow. (ginormous permanent ink explanation on felt, perhaps?)Okay guys, I’ve read this thread, and am troubled. I think, or at least hope, that everyone believes that Windstone should do well, prosper, have proper funding to run, and have a minimum amount of stress caused by Grab Bags and other things.
It makes sense. No Windstone Editions, then no nice people to talk to, no nice forum or pretties for the shelf. Simple logic that everyone can understand. No-one wants to see this company hurt. (I would hope.)
So since it’s so obvious, can’t it be taken as self-evident common ground???
People shouldn’t have to defend their goodwill just because they give their opinion for or against a kind of auction.
I’m both unhappy and uncomfortable with the false dichotomy being slung around, that people either care, or they disagree, but they can’t do both.
Frankly, it bugs me far more than whatever is done with five unicorns.
*grins* I have a very nice challenge! Tackling this one should be fun! 🙂
I’m not fond of the idea either. I want Windstone to prosper, but there’s something really nice about the GB’s being luck of the draw. The chance factor gives financial ‘lightweights’ refreshingly equal footing with those with more funds.
A few people have mentioned issuing the class photo, seeing which pieces people flip out over, and then painting similar pieces, as babies or young unicorns, for the special item section or auction. That sounds like a nice alternative.
Email sent! These are always fun. 🙂
About the only reason I ever look at the Facebook site, is to see those factory photos!
If it’s not too much trouble, I’d love to see them here!
All things being equal, I’d strongly prefer to see them as production (as they’re cute as heck and very modestly priced for a finished-windstone), but if the bugs absolutely can’t be worked out, I’d very much prefer to see them as PYO than not at all!
Painted like carved turquoise, agate or jasper, or a little mandala-blanket on a fox back, ah, how lovely!
*chews on thoughts* I was bummed not to get one, but that’s how it goes.
Been thinking, I don’t want to make unfair work or stress for the Windstone crew, but it’d be awesome to have an assurance of getting one, that doesn’t rely on great timing, luck and a great internet connection.
Might an option be prepaying for a pre-order (in which the product is well-described and a worst-case scenario timeframe for completion is given), tacking on a 10% handling/PITA surcharge for the convenience (and the extra work) but if disaster befalls the batch, turning the pre-order cost and PITA surcharge both, into a gift certificate/store credit.
If there’s a specific time window a preorder can be purchased in, (like a month?) after which the window closes till the critters hit the stores, that would make the pre-order rather exclusive, so between that and the 10% surcharge, people would be disinclined to back out of it, unless they had very pressing matters.
This isn’t exactly a ‘nice’ option for either the store or customers, but best I can currently figure out.
Eeek, I missed placing a bid on the November Tabby. Congrats to whoever got that handsome critter!
*waves* Hi mmloda, I painted him! Sorry, I totally blanked on adding my forum name. But I’m super-happy that you like him!
November 3, 2012 at 10:36 pm in reply to: Special report from the Institute of Reconstructive Surgery #888255Awesome narrative, and really nice work!
I wouldn’t trust it a bit.
The english is off. A lot of people can’t type worth a darn, but it’s not lazy native-speaker errors, but the excessive politeness paired with odd errors like ‘appreciates’, the vague reference to his ‘handler’, and not once does he refer to what your ‘item’ is. It’s probably a form letter sent to many.
Telling him to do something anatomically impossible may open your Email to spam, but in your shoes, I’d both ignore and report him to Craigslist.
Please don’t feel bad about feeling distrustful, your instinct seems good.
Ok ok…I know it seems I have lots to squeak about…but please please add the CHICKADEE POAD to the production line. That has to be the cutest poad yet!! … do this, and I won’t squeak anymore : )
You don’t need to ever stop squeaking! I was considering doing a gb batch of young Poads(tm) all decked out with real bird colors and markings, so I have been saving bird colors for that event.
That sounds awesome! Could I squeek for a Oregon Junco Poad to be included in the batch? They’re so cute, fat and kinda Poad-like.
I’m very sorry for your loss. What a handsome creature!
