I haven’t painted any other dragons in the Opoponax color because it seemed too similar to the “black gold” color.
I do love it though… maybe if there are enough squeaks for it…
We have so many colors that need doing!

Understood…but no, it’s not too close to black gold. When my opoponax arrives on Saturday, it will sit right next to my black gold. Call them fraternal twins. 🙂

Love the new eyes. I’ll admit I would not have bought if they were red again.

Here are pictures of my grab bag baby unicorn

Here’s where I make an exception to the “I hate orange eyes” rule:

    OHMYFREAKING…!

The stripes on the face and the way the leaf falls over more of the body, with the veins and leaf edges looking almost like stripes..THIS is the perfect Autumn Leaf Uni to me. This is the one you’d expect to find hiding in a pile of leaves outside your door!

Love the accent lichen on the non display side of the lichen-berry’s neck. What a clever touch!

So pretty Jolies!! Too bad it reminds me of all the snow we have gotten at my house this year! hahahaha! Great grab though, I’m sure you will have a lot of great trade offers for that fellow.

Maybe *that’s* what appeals to me about this one!–we’ve had just one snowfall this year, and it was barely a dusting. We’re not in a huge snow area, but this is an exceptionally mild year so far. With that very slight, almost cross eyed look the baby unis have when you look at them head on, this one really does look like it’s been on the receiving end of one heck of a snowball fight. 😀

So far in this thread we’ve had a masquerade uni, a walking snowball, and a caterpillar infested leaf. What’s next?! LOL (oh, right…we’re still missing a zombie, aren’t we? *snicker*)

Wow Siri! He’s cool! I like it! Reminds me of a leaf that’s been all chewed through by caterpillars or somthing ^_^

LOL! Now I’m never going to get that mental image out of my head…

Siri, I do love how he looks with your safari baby–they coordinate surprisingly well!

This baby has been here for a couple of days, but I’ve been down with a headache. She has silver eyes and a clear gem. To me, she looks like someone dumped a pile of snow over her:

And with my half finished uni PYO…that I started because “oh, I’ll never get a blue uni any other way”. LOL

    2-13GBB and PYO

I haven’t fully decided what to do with this one yet. I like her quite a bit more than I would have expected, so though I’m open to trading, I’d be super picky about what to take in trade. Right now, there are only a few from this batch I know for certain I’d like better, and they haven’t shown up so far. But I know we haven’t seen even a quarter of this release up close yet, and they always look so different from the class photo, so I’ll be willing to at least consider possible trades from this batch.

    Updated photos:

I’m not normally a fan of red or orange red eyes, but they’re absolutely perfect on this one. Wow.

Addressing one comment from earlier that may have been overlooked: Due to the larger than normal size of this batch, the original request that those who bought from the last (very small) uni release should hold back was officially rescinded; it was brought up during one of the livestreams, I believe. That was reiterated in print in the store section of the forum during the course of the night they went on sale, especially since it was a number of hours before they were sold out. No one who was lucky enough to get in on both batches violated even an informal “rule”, and there’s no reason they should feel guilty about that luck.

For those who have posted pics so far…I’m amazed, as ever, at Melody’s creativity, and I thank you for sharing that with us.

To those who might be hiding in the shadows, afraid someone’s going to toss accusations at them for posting: Please know that most of us love seeing close ups of all the babies, and don’t resent you for your good fortune. If you still don’t feel comfortable posting, regardless of the reason, I’m going to resort to begging: Please, please, take advantage of Hannah’s offer in the first post to submit your pics anonymously to her. The directories are hugely helpful both to newcomers to the hobby and to those trading unis after the release, but they’re most valuable when lots of people are participating.

Here is the one I was Lucky enough to snag!

I can probably guess what you all are going to say.. but I want to hear it anyway! XD

We say, “Oh, you got drag0nfeathers’s Dreambaby!” 😉

    I say it’s got a multiple personality disorder…

*dies laughing* That really is a perfect description! (Though he looks like he’s wearing a Mardi Gras costume to me…a mask, and a few bright colored bits that don’t cover up a whole lot. LOL)

    Well.

The Netsuke Kirin never has been finished; it’s been sitting as-is in the curio cabinet. I’ll get around to finishing it eventually.

Meanwhile, I have two other projects that are in process. One is a Keeper inspired by the Maleficent dragon in Sleeping Beauty–she’s metallic black with interference purple and an almost neon looking interference in green-gold. Pics on that one when it’s a little further along. 🙂

But because that project has some finicky detail work, I’m having to work on it only a little at a time. The new eyes for my PYO Unicorn came in yesterday (thanks, Susie!), and almost immediately, I knew what I wanted to do with this one. I’d been reading posts here and there from Jennifer about using transparent glazes to layer on a more natural looking color with lots of depth. Since I always feel like I’m losing too much of the detail in the sculpt (even when I rationally know I’m not!), I figured this would be the perfect technique for a unicorn.

    Meet Frost:

    Frost (in process)

Ice/snow/winter paint schemes are nothing new around here, obviously, but I figured this was the only likely way I was going to get my hands on a uni this color. LOL Given the natural pewter horn, I’m thinking I’ll do silver hooves & mane/tail “beads”, plus either light blue topaz AB or clear AB crystals…though the gems might change depending on what I already have on hand.

The transparent glaze method is super easy so far; I’ve never had a PYO go so quickly. Of course, what I think of her in full daylight might be another story! I’m using Liquitex Iridescent/Pearlescent medium as the base of my glaze, which gives her a nice pearly glow.

Hopefully I can get her done this weekend…and hopefully Maleficent cooperates too! 😉

I’m only so-so on the rainbows myself, but honestly I think that’s one of the best I’ve seen so far. You shouldn’t have any trouble trading him for something you like better.

(And how bad is it that I’m glad every time I open this thread to find that my absolute favorites haven’t shown up yet? LOL)

What a lovely bluebird, Copper! She’s got such rich colors.

As amazing as GB unis are…yeah, I’m ready for another Poad batch. LOL

There’s something to be said for the mild fantasy ones, if the price is right. I have one natural pinto, and somehow, I just think having a bit of metallic or magic sparkle paint or unusual eye colors on these guys looks more appropriate. At least, to my eyes!

Oh WOW Stephanie!!! He is AWESOME!!! If I get a leafy one I’ll be all over him!

As soon as I saw the pic, I thought, “I wonder if drag0n’s seen this one yet?” 😉

That’s a gorgeous baby, Stephanie. I’m sure you’ll have no problem trading him.

in reply to: PYO Unicorn buyers – I may have sent wrong size eyes! #892832

With so much going on, it’s not surprising. No worries; I’m sure everyone will let you know.

    *hugs*

Unfortunately many people don’t go back and re-read all the way to the bottom any given listing they’re bidding on. We have no way to know if the buyer has been contacted by the seller, or has seen the update. If neither of those things has happened, they will still have some rights through Paypal, I think. What a hassle for them, though.

And eBay has made it basically impossible to contact a bidder unless you’re the seller. That’s mostly a good thing, even if it’s a bit frustrating to us right now.
