    Thanks, PT! 😀

    Coming into this a bit late…… 😳

Sean, this is for you: The Star Spangled Banner is one of THE most difficult songs to sing. So you get extra credit for even *trying*, and more points for getting through it!
As someone who performs on stage on a regular basis (2 different band gigs just this weekend.) I can tell you this with a sure conviction–we are the hardest critics out there. We consistently are harder on ourselves than any other people. So KUDOS to you, kiddo, and keep up the great work!!! 😀

I also hear that dreamingtreestudios.com ( I hope that is right 😳 )makes great eyes. I have never bought from them, but they have an awesome selection. FYI – the eyes they offer are resin oppose to glass.

Yup, she is great…and will even do custom colours.

Ummm….I copied the addy for dreamingtreestudio, and it took me to a wedding photographer’s site………I’d love to see the other eyes if someone could provide the addy, please? *puppy eyes*. 🙂

Bodine, if you can hang on for a little while, I have a huge batch of stones on its way to me; over 2000 of the little buggers! Think “Rhinestones For Life” 😆 I’m pretty sure there will be more than I could POSSIBLY use in my lifetime, so I’d be most happy to share some of them. 😉

Anybody ever try this place? I just spent some quality time perusing their store. Lots of pretty cool stuff! I’m seriously eyeing a few goodies, but thought I’d ask if anyone’s bought from them first. 😀

My dream job would be to be able to make a decent living breeding, training and selling horses. Reality is, that in order to make a small fortune in horses, one must start with a BIG fortune. 😛 And with the current economy, NOBODY is buying much of anything.

My actual job by trade (when I’m working, that is…. 😳 ) is in the environmental field. I can be doing anything from plant and animal surveys to running Superfund Cleanup sites. I get to see that I am actually making a difference in our world when I run/manage a plant or system, because bad, dirty water comes in, and viola` good, clean water goes out! Some sites need me to be there a couple days a week, and others I can maintain contact with a laptop and an internet connection. I was writing reports and manuals from home for a while there.
I don’t really want to have my own company because I *am* a perfectionist, okay, okay….CONTROL FREAK….. 😀 And I could just imagine the rate of turn over if I tried. I doubt anyone would stay very long. 😳 That would just stress me out totally.

I was looking at those huge lots, too. I’m curious about the “Navette” shape; anyone know how deep they are, and how small they come? I have an idea for one of my PYO’s and that is the shape I was considering……

WSC, can you PM or email me with the addy’s for your favorite ebay stores? I think I spent like over 3 hours last night sifting through stone sites; my eyes were crossing. 😀 I was thinking about different cabs, too. Thanks for the size tip!
This will be my first time working with stones, so I don’t know what to expect. Thankfully, I see well up close without my glasses. 😈 That ought to help.

I think if Windstone made the eyes/jewels available separately from the pyo’s as a stand alone item that might be a good idea. I don’t remember if there was ever a thread on that, though. You could still choose you eye and jewel color with the statue for those who know what they want for certain, but then if you change your mind and want a different color, you could get them without having to search for another member who might be willing to swap.

Do you guys think that would be a good subject for another poll? I don’t want to just like, take over here…… 😳

😕 I start with my base color, and gradually add what I need to change it. And I use the slo-dri medium to keep things working. I’ll sometimes have as many as 5 shades of the same color going at one time on my palette. (Side note here: I like to use baby food jars and lids as part of my palette when I’ve run out of room. They’re washable and easy to seal to keep the paint from drying too quick. ) 😀
I’ll add the second shade of color to the piece, then I just brush the edges where the 2 colors meet to blend. Part of the trick is to make the color changes in little increments. For me, that’s the hardest part–using the space I have to accomodate the changes I want to make. It’s particularly hard on the smaller pieces, sometimes because I want to make more changes, but I’ve run out of room. 😳 😀

wow! i love the colors… wonderful gradient! airbrush?

Thank you! No airbrush; all hand brushed. I do have an airbrush, but it’s a really cheap one and not particularly user-friendly. I don’t use it anymore. And I’m too possessive of my pyo’s to experiment with it……. 😳

I’ve been pondering this question for a while, mostly because I am one of those “sometimes have ideas in mind” folks. I absolutely hate having to pick my eye/jewel colors when I order. I would *much* prefer to paint the sculpt first, THEN select the eyes/jewels. 😳 And I’ve been known to have an idea when I order, and then forget it before the package arrives……… 🙄

Okay: here are some updated pictures of “Winter”, shown outside in his natural habitat. 😉
He’s not quite done just yet; I have a few more little things I need to do to him.
The photos don’t really show it, but his fur is light to dark silver, not gray–lightly brushed with blue interference paint. I’ll post more shots once he’s done. I got hung up in other stuff to do this afternoon, so I didn’t get to do much more than take a few pics. 😳

in reply to: Gemstone question? #806356

Thanks, Adaneth! I figured that might be the case. I just pulled out the blank dragon pyo I have on hand to see which ones come with the sculptures. They’re backed, too.

I was also looking at the dragon closely for the first time since I got it, and I think there are a couple of other places that could take stones besides the ones that were listed in the gemstone thread. I was thinking that I might be able to put some different shaped stones as well as some rounds.

This led me to yet another question: How many of you have added stones of other shapes besides round to any of the pyo’s, and if so, how’d did it work out?
